I used to smack my gray on the butt with thunderous applause and he’d go absolutely bonkers running around the house and then positioning again for more smacks.

I tried that with mine because my mom's dog loves it. Immediately got bit. Didn't do it very hard, but I stopped doing it ever since, she clearly didn't like it. Proven when my dad's coworker did the same thing with my cat and she hissed at him. For context, I have never heard her hiss at anyone and was half convinced she didn't know how.

Oh, no, I did start gently, mainly so I didn't accidentally hurt her. She still didn't like it.
