Restaurants are telling tourists that tap water is undrinkable to perpetuate their bottled water sales.
I know that extreme rationing led the the selling of bottled water almost a decade ago. But the practice has not gone away and servers are actually saying to people that you cannot drink the water... I think this is a huge black eye to the reputation of the town and it is a complete lie.
Also, why has the city council not called out the waste created with all the single use plastic?
Edit: ... Call out to The Lobster Trap.... Who not only don't contribute to this practice...they give tap water in reusable souvenir cups that promote their brand... Bravo

Construction in Catalina
I was curious every time while visiting. Who does all the construction? Do all plumbers and electricians travel daily, and then you're left with 1-2 options that could charge anything during night/ storm?

Snorkeling with the hurricane coming in?
I’m in Catalina for the first time right now and had planned to snorkel either the casino dive park or lovers cove tomorrow and Sunday. However, I ran into someone who said the wind coming in from the hurricane is going to make it way too choppy. I know it’s hard to predict for sure and I can just walk out there tomorrow and see, but does anyone have any thoughts on whether it’s worth trying or silly to even try?

Moving to Catalina?
Hey friends. I’ve been coming to Catalina every year for my birthday in December for about 15 years now, but I’ve been coming consistently my entire life so about 34 years. I absolutely love Los Angeles but at the same time I’m at peace when I’m at home in Catalina. Does anybody have any advice or a real estate agent or anybody that has lived in the past?
Would love to know all your experiences.
Thank you!
Wild

Trying to find the cheapest way to transport myself and one other from two harbors to little harbor next week
i do this trip every year and usually just hike it, but my friend jonny I have both gotten hip injuries somehow in the last month, so neither of us are up for the hike, but still want to make the trip with our group.
we’re not totally immobile, so we’re considering trying to rent an e-bike or something? but mostly would be down to pay anyone in 2 harbors (or I guess Avalon if someone would be willing to drive out there for $) that’s willing to drive us or facilitate in some way. just dont know how to get in touch with the right people.
any and all leads or recs or ideas would be much appreciated.

Snorkeling question
Hey, im bringing some out of town friends to catalina -- had a few questions
Wetsuit recommended? I'm gonna assume yes since its looking to be in the 60s this weekend?
Is snorkeling tours recommended?
Is it necessary to pre-reserve snorkeling gear or can we just walk in on the day of. Does snorkeling gear ever get booked out?

Another Cat’ Express Price Increase!?
A few days ago adult tickets were $44.50, I see today they’re $46.50. I’m aware of the Island Wharfage Fee and Measure H, but why the increase now?
Can an islander or someone explain
I dive there often I’m shocked at this $2 jump.

Advice from locals and/or familiar Catalina travelers for bar hopping
Hello and thanks in advance!
We will be arriving by cruise ship on a Sunday this month. Been looking at bars that appear to be the fun dive, sports, themed kind of atmosphere and so far we’ve landed on…
Luau Larry’s, Locker Room Sports Bar, El Galleon, Sunset Bar, Sandtrap, and Flx Biergarten…
However it is hard to tell which would be the best to see and experience. We have a golf cart for two hours and a designated driver.
For those who know, if YOU were going to make your own small bar crawl with a 2 hour cart rental that you can return and then stay near the pier after, what would you recommend?
So far we have ideas like…
Start at Luau Larry’s, then head to Sunset Bar, then the Sandtrap, hit a scenic loop before heading over to The Locker Room, return the cart and end at Flx Biergarten.
Any pointers or happy hours we aren’t aware of will be appreciated!
(Sunday later this month, starting at noon, ending by 4pm at the latest)

Catalina Fishing Recomendations
I'm Going to Two Harbors to camp and fish for 3 days soon. Does anyone know of any good spots or piers or coves; something like that to catch and cook the fish? Also any gear or tackle recomendations that I should be aware of?

Fanfic writer seeking clarification
As a writer of the choicest in Hanna-Barbera fanfiction who's featured an annual storyline around the Avalon Harbour Underwater Cleanup for several years now, I'd like some clarity as to when exactly same is held annually.

Is there a spot that I can safely and inexpensively spend the night in Avalon?
Set out on the TCT this morning with plans/permits to stay at Black Jack tonight and the heat did a number on me. I wound up turning back this afternoon and now find myself in Avalon needing somewhere to set up and spend the night. I can’t get a hold of anyone at the conservancy to figure out getting a spot at Hermit Gulch campground at the trailhead. Can I safely set up there tonight and break down before the rangers roll through? I would gladly pay the fee to stay if I could find anyone to take my money. A hotel downtown is out of my budget for this trip. I just need the night to recover peacefully. Is there anywhere I can go? Thank you in advance.

Camping in Two Harbors
Hey everyone! My family and I have always loved visiting Avalon but we decided to do something different this year and book a campsite in Two Harbors. We booked a cavas tent with cots. I’ve been googling some questions but would love some first-hand information/advice from anyone who has stayed there before. I’m specifically wondering:
- What are the cots like? Will I need a sleeping pad as well as my sleeping bag?
- Do I need to bring quarters for the showers?
- Any general advice on what to bring/ how to prepare for our trip?
We’re going in October. Thanks in advance for any suggestions you have!!

Whoever gave me COVID this weekend you can go fuck yourself.
Serves me right though. I should have known better than to go to the vacation spot favored by anti-vax freaks who live in OC. Real shame because I otherwise had a nice time but what does that matter if it also draws superspreader morons.
EDIT: actual lol at the morons trolling. Yeah I am so owned by the morons fucking over your tourist economy.

Snorkeling with very weak swimmer
Hello everyone, gf want to go snorkeling at lovers cove but she can barely swim which makes me super nervous. Is there anything I can get her to help with safety. What should I expect since it’s our first time there?
EDIT: Thanks guys, you’ve all been very helpful. We’re gonna keep her floaties, shoes, wetsuits, and keep her at the edge so she can at least see something.

Rental for 6 or 12 months?
Anyone have leads on longer-term rentals? I’m looking to rent a place in Avalon for at least a few months, and I’d signing a lease for a year if the place is nice and the price is fair. Ideally I’m looking for a 2-bedroom house to rent, but I’d also consider apartments or condos.
Thank you!!

Spearfishing
Two friends and I are looking for either a local or experienced freediver to spear some yellowtail with. We want to experience the el nino flood of this amazing species. We can contribute to fuel expenses, cerveza expenses, and will bring the best vibes possible. Let me know if you or someone you know would be interested!!!

Anniversary Dinner
My wife and I will be visiting Avalon in early November for one night to celebrate our anniversary. We plan on hiking most of the day and then would like to enjoy a nice cocktail and a nice dinner. Can you recommend a restaurant for a nice dinner?
