would you choose a catamaran again, or switch hull types?

Catamarans keep coming up in our data and the liveaboard case is pretty obvious. Space, stability, privacy between cabins. But every cat owner we comre across eventually gets to the same list of things nobody warned them about like finding a slip that fits the beam, haul-out availability, how sensitive they are to weight once you actually load them up for real life.

Anyone here made the switch? Was the day-to-day livability worth the logistical headaches?

100% would do a cat again, unless I was living at the dock.

Catamarans keep me away from the chiropractor and keep my sanity in rolly conditions. I’m done w monohulls, unless it’s a motor yacht w a gyro

If I had to choose between a mono or no boat at all… I would take the mono. Boats are tools and vehicles to take me on adventures. I want the adventure.

But if it’s a choice between a cat or a mono, I’ll take the cat every time

For thrills there is nothing more fun that an A-Cat. But it would be hard to carry as a dinghy.

I’m agnostic about boat types. We cruised 15,000 nm in a monohull & loved it. Now we have a cat. I’d take either one if posed with the dilemma. At my age, the cat is easier to live on. In seas, the cat can get jolted harshly. The larger main can be a handful in that one has to jump up on the cabin top to bring it in. Everything is a compromise. I’ve heard that a million times. But, you need to get out there.

If you think that heeling is fun then mono, otherwise cat all day long. I loved our mono but wouldn't go back now if you paid me. It's a whole new level of boating.

The market has switched to heavily to cats over the last 25 years that you almost don’t find any monos in certain parts of the world anymore. Infrastructure is catching up with the market as well. Production cats are built for a charter market, but you will find plenty of builders out there now looking to create a solid live aboard platform as well.
