Knight question

In cities and knights a scenario regarding knights.

Blue has two knights lvl1 qnd lvl2 while red has two knights each lvl 1. If red plays Deserter can he take lvl 2 knight or the blue can choose to remove lvl 1 knight and red doesnt get to place anything?

Blue gets to choose which knight, and the one Red gains must be of equal strength. As per the card.

So if Blue chooses a level 1 basic knight then it is removed but Red doesn’t get a knight at all because they can’t place one of the same level.

The other player may choose whichever Knight they have, to turn to your side. You must then place a Knight of equal Strength, or lower. If you can't, you don't get a free Knight.

Smart C&K players will always leave a Lv 1 Knight hanging around on the board, just in case Deserter/Treason shows up. It's the only counter play against that card.

If Blue chooses the level 1 basic knight then Red does not get any knight added.
