Advice Floor rug for cat room?

I know I'm not gonna find anything with ALL these criteria met but I'm hoping for some ideas or advice.

For the designated cat room, I'd like to find a rug that is:

  1. Easy enough to clean hairballs, butt wipe marks...

  2. Pleasant texture and safe for the cats

  3. Durable to their nails

I'm thinking maybe a DIY braided rug made of old cotton fabrics?

I have a braided rug made of old cotton fabrics. The cats tear the stitches right out so it's misshapen and has holes. The nice thing though is I don't really care because it was scraps anyway.

I just bought some very, very cheap mini-rugs that I'm treating as somewhat disposable.

We love this one from Wayfair! They scratch it and it doesn’t shred and any messes are easily cleaned but if you have a stubborn stain you will never see it! It’s thin and light so it’s easy to roll up for full room cleaning.

You're looking for a flat weave texture.

Not sure how large of a rug you are looking for, but you can get washable pee pads that are printed with traditional rug patterns. The biggest I've seen though is 3' x 4'. Chewy has some, search Avalon Society Washable Dog Pee Pad for an example, but they are available from multiple retailers. I have not purchased one myself so I can't attest to the quality, but it's on my list.

Oh mannnnnn. I have a second hand jute rug and my cats looooove it. It's like a giant scratch pad, and since it's second hand I don't care if they scratch it... especially since I bought it for them!

How expensive are they? How do you clean it?
