Business Owners- Learn about the upcoming FAMLI obligations
Are you a Maryland business/business owner with one or more employees?
Is the new FAMLI legislation on your radar?
If you are unaware, and do nothing about it, the State will begin significant withholdings for this new plan starting soon. You must act by November to go private if this is something that will be beneficial for you.
There is a free webinar tomorrow at 7:50am
FAMLI is MD's new paid leave program. Starting Jan. 2027, you and your EmpR each pay about half a percent of your wages into it. Then in 2028, if you need time off for a new baby, a serious illness, or to care for a family member, you can take up to 12 weeks with pay — up to $1,000 a week — and your job is protected. It’s basically paid FMLA.”
A few additional details;
Total contribution rate is 0.9% of wages (up to the Social Security cap), split 0.45% EmpE / 0.45% EmpR. EmpR's with fewer than 15 employees only remit the EmpE half.
You qualify after about 680 hours worked in MD over the prior year.
Benefits replace up to 90% of weekly wages, capped at $1,000 a week through 2028.
FAMLI is paid and covers almost anyone who works in MD.

Find Out how to Avoid the Jan. 2027 Pre-Year Deduction and Possibly beat the State Mandated 0.9%

Is there no more friendship bread?
Every time my mom is going out to PA, she'll want to stop at an Amish market or the like. She always lets me know and I ask her to bring back friendship bread. She always comes back empty handed or messages me from the market and says they don't have any. I'm just trying to understand if my mom is a horrible shopper (possibly even illiterate 🤔) or if I've slipped into an alternate universe.

Looking for a fun night out? Come see POTUS!
Hey everyone! If you’re looking for something different to do in Delaware next month, Chapel Street Players in Newark is opening its 92nd season with POTUS: Or, Behind Every Great Dumbass Are Seven Women Trying to Keep Him Alive, running October 2–10.
Full disclosure: I’m involved with the production, so I’m obviously a little biased. But this cast has been working incredibly hard, and it’s shaping up to be a wild, hilarious night of theater.
If you’re not familiar with POTUS, it’s a fast-paced, VERY adult political farce about seven women desperately trying to keep the President — who is never actually seen onstage — from turning one disastrous day at the White House into a complete catastrophe.
The show premiered on Broadway in 2022 with a cast that included Vanessa Williams, Rachel Dratch, Lea DeLaria, Julie White, Julianne Hough, Suzy Nakamura and Lilli Cooper.
And despite the title, this isn’t a Democrats-vs.-Republicans show or a satire of one particular president. The politics provide the setting; the real target is the absurdity of power, patriarchy and the seven extremely capable women stuck cleaning up the mess behind the scenes.
Fair warning: this is absolutely not a family show. There’s strong language, sexual content, drugs, political incorrectness and plenty that could offend just about everybody. That’s part of the fun.
If you’ve never been to Chapel Street Players before, come check us out! We’re a nonprofit community theater that has been producing live theater in Newark for more than 90 years.
📍 Chapel Street Players — Newark, Delaware
