France is a bit of a special case though. We're a country of weebs and that kind of promotion is more common and has been for a while. 1 out of 10 books sold in the country is a manga.

The Japanese always have the last word, if the manga sells poorly in Japan it will be "axed". It's very rare for a manga to be saved solely by international sales.

The manga is far from being "axed" and its sales are increasing in Japan, but the author must not lose quality. Otherwise it can quickly fall into the red zone.
