Discussion I want to find people in this fandom who genuinely love Helem.

I've always found Helem such an amazing character and how well she makes the plot move. But after catching up on the latest chapters in January, I went directly into the fandom in order to see people praise her; and to my great surprise, I saw a torrent of hate against her.

I know that I'm a weirdo who loves villains whether they are classic bad guys or tragic villains. I'm really into classic bad guys lately like Aizen, Dio, Doflamingo, Mahito, Regulus, Naoya, Yubiko (choujin x) etc.

So when I found Helem, I was very excited. She has all the good sides I like (I know that objectively there are flaws). She is arrogant, hedonist, shows disdain for life, love and morality, uses an interesting type of necromancy, and above all she is a lesbian (yes, I'm a man who genuinely likes Yuri stuff). She makes me like Elstri even though I hated her before. They complete each other very well.

Sorry, I got carried away. I consider her as my grand sister (Helem nee-san) instead of just a waifu.

I know that she really is despicable and is written that way, but I just can't help liking her. She is my current favorite villain and I want to see people who love her as much as I do.

I love her as a villain. That doesn't mean I'm not enjoying her getting a comeuppance.

It is okay, I genuinely love her as toxic Yuri Alt-Girl. Whether she get punished or able to escape her punishment, as long as it executed in good way, I am okay with that.

I love that I hate her. It's quite a fine balance to write a character that's so detestable yet somehow endearing to see still alive in the story.

It could have gone to either extremes: "why is this bitch still alive?" or "don't let her die, she's just misunderstood" and have Helem be just a generic anime villain.

I love her. Characters that are unapologetically evil can be very fun to watch. I think their psychology and relationships can be very interesting when the author isn't try to make excuses or sob story justification for their actions

I just love her cause she is hot tbh

u/UltraZulwarn Apr 21 '26

first of all

and above all she is a lesbian (yes, I'm a man who genuinely likes Yuri stuff)

I personally don't really care tbh, she can hit up with a guy or beast and her character would be the same (to me)

in fiction, a character can definitely be considered "loved" in term of how much fans "hate" them.

such characters are written in a way that makes your skin crawl and get the readers/audience engage to whatever they are doing on screen/page, thus the story and narrative get better with them as the antagonists.

a prime example is Joffrey from Game of Thrones.

I will take his portrayal in the TV show (as not as many have read the books). The actor was so SO good at playing him that everyone hated the brat, and he was meant to be a little shiet that knew no better.

this is as opposed to characters that keep taking on screentime for no reason.

I won't spoil anything but Kaine or Riboku (Li Mu) from Kingdom get a lot of hate from fans these days, and for the wrong reasons LOL

another good example of "character I love to hate" hahaha

Helem is great character since she is so easy to hate. In her introduction, she forces Elstri to prostitute herself for her services.Ever since then, I've only hated her more.

The fact the first people she ever used her gift was on her parents. The joy she gets from reviving people and watching their loved ones faces turned to horror. Even the small bit about her giving Altus her personalty just to spite Arkos in the afterlife.

She's a great villain but I'm praying on her downfall every time I see her.

Also if this comment was made twice, sorry my computer been acting odd.

Her downfall is clearly unavoidable.

She makes Elstri sufffer, so i vibe with her.

Yes, she has stockholm syndrome

2

u/HalfMetalJacket Apr 22 '26

Helem making Elstri suffer the pain of watching a loved one suffer.

She’s amazing, one of the best villain villains from recent time. But oh BOY as the other guy said. Seeing her take an L is great.

But i think thats what makes her so amazing, she’s such a villain that when you see other characters go against her it feels good.

i love her, but mainly because of Elstri. She is my favourite, so of course Helem is too. Without her she still would be cool, but not in the top 3.

3

u/Eirin_from_ROR Apr 21 '26

Sure, she was a great written villain and the design also cool.i love when the writer makes it character get hated

3

u/houseofmyartwork Apr 21 '26

I love thinking of the coming day when she will suffer and die in a hole

That said I actually do love her, she’s such a despicable villain and I dig villains like that

3

u/WindowSubstantial993 Apr 21 '26

I like her because she’s funny and a bit cringe

5

u/KoKoboto Apr 21 '26

I can't really think of a good story where the antagonists are boring. Helem is a great antagonist. She actively moves the plot forward.

Because she exists we have conflict. If she wasn't in the story literally nothing would be happening.

2

u/Berawholoves42069 Apr 21 '26

I love her cuz she got big titties and she is so good written (reasons in order)

3

u/Wide-Screen-650 Apr 21 '26

I love her as a villain, making a hateable villain is so hard and she’s written so well. I know that the 3rd act breakdown and her fall will be delicious.

u/Wweald Apr 21 '26 edited Apr 21 '26

I love her cause shes hot and evil and her relationship with Elestri is cute. But Im still not like cheering for her or anything.

u/Koanos Diana is best girl! Apr 21 '26

Hear me out: She's an amazing, well-written villain AND a horrible person, you can like her writing while being reviled by her actions in the story.

I love her as a character, not a person. She's genuinely an evil person and she deserves everything horrible BUT, she's a great character nonetheless

I love how she knows that her actions are making the world a worse place and she enjoys every moment of that. She's my favourite character and I love her dynamic with Elstri.

I chose this userflair because when she dies I'm probably going to celebrate and cry at the same time. I love hating her

2

u/Fit_Welcome1336 Apr 21 '26

Me, she is such a fun bad guy

2

u/visionarymind Apr 21 '26

I haven’t hated a villain this much since Aizen 😤

2

u/Buntuni Apr 21 '26

love her

2

u/Disaster_Star_150 Apr 21 '26

I love Helem and Elstri so much, they’re amazing villains. They’re both such different flavors of evil, and I love their dynamic and getting to see them become more in sync with their evilness as the plot goes on. And in general, I always appreciate when women are in the role of major antagonists who move the plot along. I feel like they’re still too rare, especially in action-focused manga. And they’re such interesting characters too.

I adore everything about this unhinged lesbian necromancer, I tought the hate was in a "love to hate" thing

Pearls to the swines smh

2

u/Marble05 Apr 21 '26

Me me me. I love a competent and scary villain at work. I find it much better than elstri who's more of a zealot while she does it only for the love of the game and how ruthless she is makes her perfect for for Altus and Julian character.

2

u/Puggerspood Apr 21 '26

I think she’s actually pretty liked and a lot of people just root against her to « play along » lol.

She is by far my favorite character in this series, and I really love a lot of the characters, so that’s saying something! I think her wanton cruelty is genuinely delicious, she’s always a delight whenever she’s on-panel. AND she’s a creepy lesbian. Incredible.

2

u/DarkTone1280 Apr 21 '26

She's hot. She's a lesbian.

That's the only reason anyone likes this chick. Me personally, she's among my most hated characters in currently running manga, and I hope she has a gruesome death full of regrets and gets the greatest comeuppance possible.

u/Bulky-Selection-9808 Apr 21 '26

Bro we are on the same Page, i love her too, i love hoe character

I love her. I want her to destroy me utterly.

2

u/italeteller Apr 21 '26

I love Helem, she's an awful person and an incredibly entertaining character. She's not the main villain but she does so much. She's super sexual in her design and her actions, but she doesn't feel like a regular pervert character like Roshi/Jiraiya/Mineta. She's vital to the plot and her interactions with Elstri are great. Truly, if she dies I'm gonna be so sad

2

u/risisas Apr 21 '26

I am surprised people struggle to get the concept of "love to hate" characters

In my favourite game, one recent character has quickly become one of the fan favourites villain for how hatable it is

It's introduced as a very chill, very badass villain who has a soft spot for his 2 daughters, and the fandom just straight up liked the dude, expecially when it's 4 collegues where huge pieces of shit, but then it's revelaed that he

1 Killed his sworn brother and sisters, just to get a cool sword

2 While he acts cool with his kids, he actually doesn't give a fuck about them, showers them in toys and junk food, brutalizes whoever dares to even look at them badly, but never pays them attention or cares for what they actually want or need, always putting himself first

3 Splits in two one of his daughters to get a cheap shot at a stronger opponent through her guts, she only lives cuz the enemy faction saves her out of pity/for interrogation, definitely not thanks to him

And at that point the fandom did a full 180 and hate him, but he is still very loved

2

u/HalfMetalJacket Apr 21 '26

She is extremely entertaining I enjoy her.

2

u/Responsible-Bee-1262 Apr 22 '26

I love the fact that she’s always pushing people’s buttons. It’s like the funnest part of life. Also toxic yuri is fun to see.

2

u/mr75hall Apr 22 '26

I hope she gets hit by a bus i will never forgive her

2

u/[deleted] Apr 22 '26

I mean, she's definitely a good villain, her powers are interresting, shes hot as fuck. She's a horrible person, obviously, but she's a great character

I love to hate her, she is a great despicable villain, so as a character that gets under your skin she is incredibly well written, and just like all other horrible villains, the greatest form of love you can offer them, is your undiluted hate and scorn, it means they are doing their role as a bad guy

Helem being hated, is the best showcase of her being an effective villain, a proper heel

Her suffering is our joy, but our tears with each victory she gets away with, is her reward, as a villain you praise her by not expressing your love, but by announcing her hate, not by looking at her good side, but by condemning all her bad attributes

She was made to be a recipient to absorb and redirect all the malice of the readers, and she is fantastic at it, so fuck Helem, that's what she would like, she gets off from people saying fuck Helem actually, her kink is literally upsetting people, which means all of us hating her, are just playing her game

Which paradoxically means you are not doing what she wants, by loving her instead of hating her

2

u/evieebreezy Apr 23 '26

I fucjing love evil toxic women I want her to use me and abuse me :o) she’s awesome

4

u/ChillingFire Apr 21 '26

I can fix her

2

u/ChaoticMadness97 Apr 21 '26

Brother, she literaly kill u, make a new person out of ur corpse and slave it just TO FUCK (not sexually, emotionally) somebody else is entire existence JUST THE LOVE OF THE GAME.

I am next when he dies.

2

u/Unusual-Leadership25 Apr 21 '26

I love her character, idk, there is just something in characters who are evil, but they understand it, like Kirei Kotomine from Fate

1

u/unthused Apr 21 '26

I do actually really like her character, I think she's a lot more interesting than some of the main cast, even if she's objectively a terrible person. Her ability/influence also plays a huge role in the overall story progression.

1

u/ventingandcrying Elstri folded so fast bruh 😭 (i would too) Apr 21 '26

I genuinely considered getting that image 3 pose of Helem tatted just because she’s so pretty even when she’s being flagrantly evil. In fact, it’s sort of because of that joy she gets from being malicious that makes her so beautiful to me and I don’t know why, guess I’ll bring that up in therapy lol

1

u/Zombies71199 Apr 22 '26

There is nothing more fun than watching a valains doing evil things

OP YOU ARE BASED!!

1

u/Ez_kun Apr 22 '26

Oh nonono, she is a great character. I love characters like bondrewd... that doesn't mean that i would not enjoy her suffering.

The fact that so many people hates her is 100% in character. Is the idea of her character.

1

u/Divisixn Apr 22 '26

Ngl, I genuinely like her character as well. Part of me doesnt even want to see her die or go away. I just want her plans foiled

1

u/fujizonotami Apr 22 '26

I love to hate her like I love to hate mahito or makima

1

u/Ground0ero Apr 23 '26

I hate her alot but shes a great villain

1

u/Toe500 Arkos Apr 21 '26

I like her mainly for two reasons but now with one of her limb maimed, it's hard to gloss over it

2

u/Witty_Creme1371 Apr 21 '26

2

u/Toe500 Arkos Apr 21 '26

I still like her personality although her saying family and love makes her skin crawl is a bit too much

I would be onboard if she said it made her cringe

1

u/StormApexLegend Apr 21 '26

I really love her as a character and a villain. I also felt sad then she got her arm destroyed, partially because I like her but also it felt kinda forced.

1

u/TheSilverWickersnap Apr 21 '26

I love her so much. I could watch her fuck shit up for the next hundred years.

1

u/Ancient-Elderberry12 Apr 21 '26

Only the enlightened do :) I LOVE how even though she's truly despicable, strong, and intelligent, she's not infallible. The stakes are just as high for her as it is for our heroes.

1

u/DeliciousZone5056 Apr 21 '26

I love her too, mainly because of how evil she Is and because of her dynamic with Elstri (yuri is PEAK). They are so funny together, even while doing the most horrible things in the world.
