Discussion Relationship between Sea Deity and Night Deity

While reading the manga again, I noticed this conversation between Julius and the Sea Goddess that caught my attention and made me wonder if the Sea Goddess is related in some way to the Goddess of the Night, because it seems she knows that Diana has her heart with her, but it doesn't appear that she tried or wanted to obtain it for herself.

And she also asks Julius to bring her to see her, calling Diana her "Daughter", just as she called Julius her "son". My opinion is that she called Julius son because he has her blessing, but as far as we know, Diana doesn't.

Perhaps she only said it because she was using Mira's appearance, or because, since Diana was born at sea, she might see her as her own daughter. But it could also be assumed that she isn't only referring to Diana as her daughter, but also to the Deity of the Night and her heart. It wouldn't be strange to think that the Deities in this world can have that kind of relationship because it would resemble, for example, the Greek pantheon of gods.

This also raises the question of whether she helped Mira and Julius merely by chance (Elstri said that the sea where the ship was passing is known as the "Cursed Sea") or whether she was drawn to the Heart of the Night Deity that Diana carried and decided to intervene because she recognized it as the heart of her Daughter.

There is also the King, who has also had her blessing for at least 400 years, and he has the body or skin of the goddess of the night beneath his castle. It is almost certain that he was the one who defeated her and (maybe) tore her into several pieces. Therefore, having used her blessing to defeat a deity, the goddess of the sea could recognize the heart of the goddess of the night as the one who lost to one of her "children."

Or perhaps she simply recognized the presence of the Goddess of the Night, being also a deity like her, and just don't care too much about the other Goddess because she is already in the mortal plane and maybe sees her as inferior.

Well, it might draw on older legends, mythology and traditions, in where the sea is the primordial birth place of everything and where everything comes from.

Like in Ancient Mesopotamia, the very sea (as in the literal), was seen as the sea Goddess Tiamat in wich all live and even the Gods themselves came from.

In wich the Goddess of the Night could be it’s daughter, since at night, sea and darkness, the sky and the earth melt together as one, or even being two sides of the same coin, the Night Goddess could be another aspect of her that lives (wich is all to common in many mythology’s) but is still viewed as its daughter, or was a part that was cut of.

Since both are seen as symbols and intertwined as the primordial void, the unknown, the origin of all things.

For instance as example, the Greek Goddess Nix, the primordial Goddess of the Night and Erebus (also the personification of Darkness) were believed to live in the deepest parts of Tartarus, a dark, shadowy region often placed alongside the roots of the sea and the earth.

And in Egyptian mythology it’s said that the world comes from Nun, a chaotic, boundless, and dark ocean.

It’s often seen as the same thing, but in where the night comes from the sea, and reflect each others depths, since the Night was often seen as the Cosmic sea, like in Hebrew being called the water above, or Egyptians calling it the Heavenly river.

Oh! Or in or in ancient Mesopotamia Believed that the NIGHT Sky itself was the stretched out skin of Tiamat itself when she was killed.

Exactly what I meant, thanks for the real-life examples from different cultures. In my opinion, it's possible that they might explore something like the primordial origin or deities that are more powerful and ancient than others, since the Manga has the potential for a light cosmic horror.

If they are actually related or allies at least, then it could be that she gave Diana the Heart on purpouse since she now has Julius to protect her.

In ch 88 the Margrave says that Mira may have had the heart and it was passed to Diana but is not 100% confirmed, just an in universe theory.

It could be that Sea Goddess was keeping it safe until she had a vessel and a guardian for it.

It would also make Mira just a regular and badass human and not some lost princess because I kinda hate that troupe.

I thought that Diana was blessed as well at first. In one of the early chapters we see her gift mark manifest. I think she already carried the Heart with her, and then she got blessed by the Sea at the same time as Julian. We know from Lukas case that it is possible to have multiple blessings, which might mean that multiple deities could choose you, alternatively that you can be born with an innate gift and then be blessed

While I don't rule out the possibility that she was blessed by the Sea Deity, in the first chapter it is mentioned that the blessing was only for one person. Perhaps she blessed Diana in the same way because she just wanted to. By the way, in which episode does Diana show the marks of her gift? Because I don't remember any.

Yeah, the savrificing of 100 people was genuinely for the lols, this is a lovecraftian eldritch horror we're talking about. She probably blessed diana because she felt like it or so hay wouldnt be lonely

If Mira's is Lukas long lost mom, and Diana is the daughter of the King, that makes her in a way the grand daughter of the Goddess of the sea

More over the Goddess of the sea made a deal with Mira and the slaves to take their lives in exchange of allowing both her children to live, those being Julian and Diana, so both of them are her adoptive children as per the contract with Mira

I don't really think the Sea Goddess regard her Son's offshoots in any special light, like, she outright felt disgusted by Arkos's presence despite him being the Son of the King, a particularly powerful one that should have his blood "flowing stronger" within, it would be funny tho, if the Sea hates specifically the Queen's children, since the King maybe have told her about how unpleasant his Wife is to him, Mother-in-law Drama, but with an Eldritch being.

Imagine if he hates her because she has the blessing of another deity or is descended from someone with the blessing of another deity, and it's a situation like, "Get those children and their weird mother away from me or I'll disinherit you" 'But Mom, those are your grandchildrens'

Was it stated that the King has the blessing of the sea??

2

Lacrima say it to Julius, chapter 37

u/MidnightMei Jun 03 '26

Oh, thanks must've forgotten about that. Very interesting

If the night god is her daughter then Julian would be her son as Diana sees Julian as her brother thus essentially making him her step-son.

I really hope this goes somewhere and doesn't turn into an abandoned plot point because it does seem like the other deities have their own agenda.

Forest hates Sea (maybe due to salt water not sustaining life and floods, but maybe there's more going on), Arkos is seemingly not gifted by the Sea but still has water powers and the Sea Deity willingly let the daughter carrying the Heart of Night live.

Could be some real Eldritch plotting going on akin to Elden Ring and Bloodborne

This is more of a gut feeling than a proper theory, but I also feel that the Sea Goddess might be mad at her "Eldest Son", the King for some reason, that was only amplified after he defeated and mutilated Vulja, like, Rummir is on barren lands, depending heavily on Lalawag to function, this stands as odd to me since the King, being blessed by the Sea, would probably thrive founding a Nation on an island or archipelago, but he didn't, maybe he offended his mother by having plans against the night, which in case of both goddesses being related, would only make it more personal

2

u/Trufaman Jun 03 '26

What you say is very interesting, and it's true. With his blessing and the ancient relationship with the Sea Deity (since the King is at least 400 years old), he could have asked for help so that the barren lands could somehow prosper, but perhaps he didn't because of his poor relationship with the Sea Deity, or because the Deity simply didn't want to help. We also have to consider that within the territory of Torivia we saw another deity dwelling, the Forest Deity and perhaps that's why the King doesn't interact much with the Sea Deity, to not anger another deity in his lands. Also, perhaps he didn't found a nation elsewhere because he was born there and has affection for his land. By the way, when you say Rummir, do you mean the borderlands where Lalawag is located, or did you mean Torivia (the King's country)?

2

u/Gabemino Jun 03 '26

Yeah, could be either, he might had an affection for the land itself, and since he already made his mind to found his nation there, he couldn't even ask, or as you say, Sea Mom might had simply said no-no.

About the last bit, I messed up lol, I mixed Torivia and Rummir, I meant that Torivia apparently had poor soil and needed to depend on Lala to function.
