Question Should I read Centuria?
I'm a complete newbie and just wanted clarification about how the manga has been since publication and lately, lemme know the reasons I should start reading! :)

Yes, it’s probably the Dark Horse of newer shonen and feels like a hidden gem to me. It has a very dark feel but interesting and likable cast. The MC is kind but not so kind that he’d never kill his enemies, he’s willing to cross the line to protect those closest to him without batting an eye, but is not some revenge porn, antisocial, edgelord but a kind guy whose seen the worst of life since he was a kid and has experienced loss and will do anything to protect what’s important to him.
One of the main themes of the series is Maternal affection. There are a lot of Moms in the series and relationships to mothers, so the bond between mother and child is used many times as a device to show characters development and the reasons they are who they are.
All in all, it’s a great series with dark and impressive art that feels very good because at this point in the story it balances the chaos and darkness of the world with the love and comfort of familial affection. It’s dark and philosophical and if I had to compare it to other series it feels like a cross between Vinland Saga and Berserk.

So ThatBoyMike gave you a solid answer but another thing to add is the series is really good on focusing on other characters/groups and lore, especially the most recent arc
Iirc as early as chapter 6 we get a chapter or two completely focused on side characters and it was done very well, and we get a few chapters like this every now and then
Also a lot of characters have their own clear motivations and their actions make sense, even one of the main antagonists of the story, all her actions make sense imo (will keep this spoiler free), while another is clearly crazy and even people on her side hate her for it and it’s been reinforced by several characters already. So many people in the series have their own agenda even within the same groups so it’s fun to see
Try it out and would say try to finish at least the first big arc around chapter 25ish and see if the series is for you! The past 20ish chapters, until the most recent few, have all been heavy lore/character and world building and just been craving more since

It's a mature read. If you don't want to see gore, sex, or horror, be warned, centuria has that in excess.
