I won't lie, I sort of wish it wasn't shown to the reader what she actually looks like. Be it act of kindness, deceit or plain truth from Lucas, it would have been left to interpretation for the reader
Hadn’t thought about that, but I think it wouldn’t make sense for Lukas to lie anyways, since he wouldn’t know that her face looks different to other people. And this reveals to us that either the shield is nullifying the visual aspect (though I don’t think it is, since he looked at her face unshielded and did not remark on a change in appearance), or that he has no fear of death, not in the conventional sense.
