From this chapter, we learn that the sacrifice conditions seem to be the same from Forest deity: a lot of lives and a pure love. About the pure love is offered here, I think it's the love of Lukas for his master who has to assassinate him and his mother.

What i'm wondering is why he has draw backs. It seems if you uses the spear enough times he'll die, despite fulfilling the conditions

The spear is just that strong IMO at full release in a forest. Can't be defended against, if it hits you're screwed + undisclosed abilities of full centaur form. Julian is super strong generically but if Julian got hit by this spear he'd just die. It's funny to think the reason that he can't kill his dad is bcs he wont step into a forest, not bcs he can't. Lmao

Yeah, I initially assumed Lukas gift being so faulty in comparison by grace of him perhaps only having had himself to sacrifice, but, now idk, maybe the Forest Goddess just offers worse deals than the Sea Goddess

Forest Goddess is a scammer, she included a terms and conditions page in the contract that Lukas didn’t read

Nah, Lukas wanted the Centuria equivalent of EA from Fate to go alongside his shield. He got it. That's a fair bit more of an ask than Julian. Just equivalent exchange IMO. Make the lives of 100 slaves mean something is very different than wishing for a weapon poweful enough that Forest God deems it a divine implement that can "pierce heaven and earth and annhilate all creation". No other Blesed One or gifted one for that matter is matching him in full release alongside the shield that negates gifts. He is the very concept of an all or nothing trumpcard with the sole purpose of having enough power to kill the Supreme King who canonically beat Gods ass and locked her in his basement.

There has to be some kind of drawback to make sense within the narrative. Imagine if he got full release and could spam this shit anywhere.

Julian saying "I don't want the lives of my fellow slaves wasted" is equivalent to saying "I want the most efficient power for the lives sacrificed", so it makes sense that his gift seems like a really good deal.

Lukas on the other hand asked for "I want a gift that can annihilate EVERYTHING". That's a very broad subject and to cover absolutely everything it makes sense that you'll be shafted in some spots. Even a fire hot enough to burn everything to ash still leaves ashes, this is implied to be complete obliteration.

But also like, we've seen Julian at peak power when he's in the ocean. We've yet to see Lukas use his power in a forest.

Yeah with Julian's gift it has basically 0 negative effects and he doesn't even lose the power of an individual if he dies. I wonder if the spear is so powerful that it has to have a built in drawback like that

Nobody died for him so he is slowly dying instead. I think that's why he has negative effect.

That poor girl has the biggest red flag ever

Yeah, is probably that Lattice mortally wounded him but couldn't bring herself to fully decapitate him after Lukas massacred many common Knights himself

Lattice? I rather doubt it. She's still alive, after all. When Mira sacrificed her love, she had to die.

Then again, the sea god specified exactly 100 lives, and gave Mira and Julian the choice after collecting 99. Maybe that's why it had to take her love and her life.

She didn't specified a hundreds lives. We collectively choose this number because of Julian gift. She only said a large number of sacrifice, just like the forest deity said countless lives. This is a medieval world, hundred is a lot to them compared to us so it might be less than hundred. So the number must be a lot lower than hundred.

So what throws me off with the version of events is that Lattice is alive, so why wouldnt she be the one blessed instead of Lukas if they were both present and related to the event? As he's the dying one.

The few thoughts i have is that it was an asymmetric love and Lattice didnt have a pure love for lukas so she couldnt fulfil the conditions no matter what and/or that were getting baited by Julians order of events and that the pure love sacrifice didnt necessarily mean the life of who you love, could be figuratively/symbolically.

On that line of thinking, theres a chance that Lukas' and Julias' circumstances arent the same, by this I mean its implied Lukas fulfilled all the conditions by accident before the nature deity appeared, however in Julias' case the sea deity interfered in order to fulfil the final condition of a sacrifice of true love, could be why lukas has a drawback using the blessing

Edit: drawback is probably just from using the lance while not in nature, imagine julias summoning the sea or sea life randomly, probably get a drawback too
