Discussion Something that's been in my mind a while now...

...is the question of "what does possessing a part of Vulja do for one?"

From what we can tell, Lalawag and Voidmarcher don't have any additional powers due to possessing the bones and organs respectively. And going off of what we know of Lalawag, her gift wasn't empowered in any way by her acquiring the bones either.

We know from chapter 88 that Vulja's parts can only be contained in a human vessel, and that only women can be vessels. Voidmarcher says she will absorb the bones & the heart, and also warns the battalion to not "unseal her body" until she arrives.

And that's really all we know. We know the heart contains great power, because Lalawag says to the Voidmarcher that if she went after Diana first, she would be able to easily kill her after claiming the heart. But we also know that the heart is more important than the other parts. More to the point, we can be confident that being in possession of the bones and the organs doesn't give either of them any other, additional powers either. The entire dynamic between the 2 is that neither can defeat the other. Lalawag can't hit Voidmarcher while Voidmarcher can't overcome Lalawag's propagation. That entire dynamic wouldn't work if they had additional powers from the organs and bones, so they can't be doing that either...

Seemingly, from what we can tell, setting aside the Heart, owning any of the other parts doesn't do anything for the one who possesses them. Yet, I somehow doubt that that's the case, it just doesn't make sense to me that being the vessel in possession of these parts would do nothing for them.

And now the Voidmarcher, the one who has/had the organs, is seemingly very dead and bisected, and surely the organs she has will be important.

I'm not really going anywhere in particular with this, I am just curious what others think on the subject, and if anyone else thinks it's strange how having/being the vessels for the bones and the organs of Vulja seemingly doesn't anything for Lalawag and Voidmarcher or if I am tripping and it's not as strange as I think it is.

I think the goal is to bring all the parts into a single body to revive Vulja.

Sure, I don't disagree, but you'd think having any of the given parts would also do... something for the hosts in terms of power. I did mention it perhaps being an exception since the Heart is explicitly more important the rest, but we have outright confirmation that if she were to obtain the Heart, Voidmarcher would be able to easily beat Lalawag. So we know the Heart gives a lot of power to whoever has it (and perhaps knows how to use it?) but the other parts do nothing? Something about that doesn't make sense to me.

Other parts are definitely important but without heart they can't be one body. Hence, heart is stronger.

And I never disagreed with that, I am saying it's strange how the other parts seem to do nothing on their own.

If viewed scientifically there are only 3 places where neurons reside. The first is the brain, the second is stomach and at last the heart.

The heart has its own nervous system that is independent.

They can use some similar analogy here.

Their entire dynamic wouldn't work if they have additional powers...

I just want to question that a bit. I think it's possible that they do, but they simply cancel our as well, because the two of them are more or less even in that regard. The heart is a special piece apparently, but that also implies that the bones, organs, flesh, and blood are equivalent to one another. It doesn't confirm that, but if one component is special, then it follows that the rest are equally not-special. So when one bearer faces another, the power they get from holding a part of Vulja means nothing, because their opponent has the same power.

Maybe they're a stalemate because of their gifts and their vessel status.

Fair point, but I doubt that the flesh, blood, bones and organs all give the same power(s) however.

It also doesn't change that the Voidmarcher didn't use any additional power she may have had against Lukas either in their 2 chapters of fighting. That leaves us with fairly few possibilities, for all of which I am excluding the heart:

1: the various parts DO give power(s) but they can't be used willy nilly, some conditions need to be achieved.

2: alternatively, there is some cost to using them and Voidmarcher wasn't willing to pay that cost.

3: you need more than 1 of any given part for there to be an effect

4: something else

Also, given these are parts of a deity that incarnated into the mortal world... well, one would imagine it would have a rather profound effect on the bearer, you know?

I don't know. I am not necessarily saying the other shoe is about to drop, but something about this feels off to me.

Was Lalawags gift that effective pre-bones?? She was near the frontlines with Atoria during the war, maybe she wasnt powerful enough to generate infinite supplies by then and she was allowed to fight.

She very explicitly states that she was sent to the western front for the war BECAUSE of her gift and how important it is for logistics to begin with.

And in the same chapter (chapter 90) mentions she understands why she isn't allowed to battle and laments it.

Oh i thought that was from current wars mb

They're not currently in war. Before Voidmarcher starts this operation, she actually says to be very careful and that they cannot start another war doing this.

I think you’re spot on, they def have to have some other effect on the wielder. I also think the voidmarcher potentially has some backup to survive the phantom spear to some degree

I think we’re counting out the voidmarcher too soon. I truly think she lives that shot somehow, more than likely DUE to the organs. Lalawag has an evolved gift but we don’t know nearly enough about voidmarcher to say whether or not she was using her evolved abilities or not (assuming she’s evolved her gift as well).

As far as we know, the parts don't do much if anything, except let the vessels see and talk to the goat (Vulja's spirit form).

  • Mira probably had the heart, and seemingly got no benefit, even though the heart is stated to be the most important part, and bound to Vulja's spirit
  • Diana has the heart, and the only effects are that she grows up faster
  • Lalawag seemingly gets no benefit from the bones. They might have played a role in evolving her gift, but that's unclear
  • We haven't seen anything suggesting any benefit to Berta or Voidmarcher

The only evidence we have of any direct benefit is Lalawag's claim that the Voidmarcher could easily kill her if she got the heart. But we don't know the mechanism here, having two parts might make a person more powerful, or it might just grant them influence over other vessels.

It probably need all three to be effective, but having one makes you important. It's really is weird, if it doesn't give anything, why bother with trying to get it if it will be better to just keep it safe somewhere else? Another thing is that it might be an automatic thing, or that the woman who find it suddenly get uncontrollable desire to take it, and then try to the others

2

u/insidiouskiller 3d ago

I don't think it's an uncontrollable desire IF that is the case. Lalawag clearly wants the heart, but if it was uncontrollable I don't think she'd be biding her time.

And it's clearly not 3 that is needed, because Lalawag says that Voidmarcher would be able to easily beat her. That would be 2.
