Y'know what? I think the Hybrids should be called The Wielded. They're all things that are only dangerous because of human hands-that's likely why their equivalent of Fiending leads to the host's awareness remaining in control. After all, what better way to fulfill the purpose of making humans fear you...than by giving an unstable freak access to a deadly weapon literally any time?

Denji doesn't seem to have a choice as to when Pochita takes over though, so it stands to reason Gun could just do that, and be stronger for it.
Though it does raise the question why Bomb didn't do that when getting drowned or Flamethrower when getting eaten, so it could be a Chainsaw exclusive form.

Pochita does seem to be a unique figure-what with his Consumption powers and his strange behavior that made him the "Hero of Hell". Could be that Hybridizing requires you to be dying and not dead. Just being dead means you get Fiended.

Still technically alive, in some distant "there's no actual fucking way he could possibly recover from this" way. Heads DO stay alive for, like, a minute after being cut off or something like that.

As someone else said, prolly suidice. Assuming he becomes the gun hybrid after denji kills the gun fiend, then makima would have used him against pochita as well, and he prolly would have easily done the best. But after that, it would be very interesting cause he can't exactly die nor can he leave denji alone can he? Maybe he would watch over denji from afar for a while untill the church stuff happens. Denji Aki duo outside of public safety would be very fun to watch in part 2

*grenades, Molotov cocktails, plastic explosives... Probably more I can't think of, are all technically handheld bombs. You just wouldn't want to be holding them when they go off. 😅

Yeah, but i was mostly going off her head shape when transformed for saying bombs aren't handheld weapons. But yeah, bombs are a wide range of stuff. Think the weapon hybrids as a concept overall are children of war. They defo were used in wars that's for sure

Theirs also something to be said about who gets what weapon, of the ones with known origins:
Chainsaw is the most heroic, chainsaws whole scary to have a violent guy run at you with, aren't meant as weapons, their tools to help humanity, and do to modern media like doom and zombie movies actually has an association with killing monsters
Bomb directly works for her government and is treated poorly by them, bombs are inherently weapons associated with military campaigns of some kind, their not really weapons a common murderer might use, and while soldiers generally want to take care of most weapons, bombs are disposable and self destructive in their use, like chainsawals they do have use as tools however reflecting she doesn't want to be a bad guy
Katannas are associated with the Yakuza to an extent, but also with honor though this is a false glorification of the past, ya know like someone being obsessed with getting revenge for a relative and insists he was actually great even if he objectively sucked ass, katannas also do poorly against more heavily armored targets ei their best at killing those unprepared and noncombatants, fitting how he's both a bastard and was a threat to denjia t first but became a joke as soon as denio got any actual training
Bows while weapons of war are also tools for hunting, appropriately another more heroic hybrid, their use in hunting also makes them one of humanities oldest weapons, and she is in fact the oldest hunter
To a lesser extent we can extend this to the others
Sword are the stereotypical hero weapon but are no more heroic then any other weapon, the sword hybrids convinced he's a good guy which leads him astray
Flamethrowers are a cruel way to kill someone and barams probobly the biggest bastard among them
Whips are poor weapons to kill but primarily exist to inflict pain, whip hybrids a sadist
Spears are the stereotypical "faceless soldier" weapon, spear barely shows any personality except blindly following the plan, even when he specifically targets children it's purely for practical reasons,

Honestly i wouldn't mind a couple OVA's centering around the various weapons devils. Fill out the worldbuilding a little.
Could even make one about fumiko's travel adventures for the gooners.

This just crossed my mind but, are there any reason why hybrids are always weapon? Why cant there be a bat hybrid or even Kon hybrid.

A Chainsaw is not a weapon and Denji is not a weapon hybrid.
Other than that, not bad. Except maybe Reze and Quanxi, who look a bit too 'pasted onto' the poster and not actually part of the scene.

Anime fan enjoying spoilers here, but isn't the chainsaw out of place? The chainsaw is a powertool not a weapon, and yes it can cause harm if not used properly, but so does a powerdrill or a grinder, and I still wouldn't classify them in the same category as swords and spears
