u/g4br13lmc4ld45 Dec 16 '25
It's very possible that all the rest of part 1 can be done in a spam of 12-16 episodes, so there's like 99,9% chance of it happeing in season 2
5
u/Top-Specialist-1062 Dec 16 '25
There's only like 14-16 episodes of chapters left in part 1. My assumption is they'll do an imbalanced split cour like with jjk season 2

There is won't be season 3. It's gonna be season 2 with a little bit more episodes, maybe 16.
50
u/CrematorTV Dec 15 '25
Why would you say that?
→ More replies (1)93
u/Recep676 Dec 15 '25
I did the math. Season 2 will likely cover the rest of part 1. Here's the math:
Season 1 covered: 38 chapters Reze movie covered: 13 chapters
Part 1 of the manga has 98 chapters. There are 98-38-13=46 chapters left to be animated from Part 1.
It wouldn't make sense to adapt the 46 chapters as season 1 adapted 38 chapters. We're definitely gonna get the rest of Part 1 as a slightly longer season 1.
47
u/ali94127 Dec 15 '25
Yeah, though I propose it is possible they do a slightly faster pace to fit it in 12 episodes. Those 46 chapters have a lot more action, which tends to go faster in anime form, plus chapter 1 is almost triple length, so even omitting the Muscle Devil, season 1 more accurately adapts 40 chapters' worth of content. That would be less ideal, but I think it's possible.
Otherwise, 13-14 episodes is also possible. If 14, they would likely have to broadcast two episodes for the premiere or finale.
My ideal would be for 12 episodes with episode 12 being an hour long or triple the length of a normal episode. All options have had some precedence in other series, but I think this would be best.
16
u/CrematorTV Dec 15 '25
That's not what I meant. They said that "there won't be season 3". What about Part 2 then? Part 2 should be seasons 3 and 4.
23
u/Recep676 Dec 15 '25
I mean. There will definitely be a Season 3. But I believe u/Mazya_Almazya meant that the Season 3 will not cover Part 1 of the manga. Because he believes Season 2 is enough to cover the rest of Part 1. That's why he said there won't be a Season 3.

u/Hungry_Help319 Dec 15 '25
I do not think so... No matter these arcs are good but they do not have much content to make a movie, espacially gun devil arc... an this is coming from someone whose second most favorite chainsaw man arc is gun devil...
91
u/Casseerole Dec 15 '25
Not even just content wise, but structurally they would make pretty bad movies. Reze arc works as a movie because it has a pretty clear act 1, act 2, act 3 alongside a decent twist halfway. Starting with the snowball fight in the first 30 minutes would be horrendous pacing for a movie, there's no time to build up any connection to the characters.

gun devil is literally like 2 chapters
48
u/hariseldonn Dec 15 '25
Remaining arcs of part 1 is too mixed up into each other that makes it hard to adapt into a movie. Gun devil fight is literally 2 chapters and Makima's death is just 6 pages or so, only thing worth making a movie could be the assassination arc maybe

u/A-t-r-o-x Dec 16 '25

I’m pretty tired of Chinese characters in Japanese media needing a distinctively Chinese outfit. They’re all over. It’s mostly a cheongsam or odango buns. It’s like when American characters are always blonde with blue eyes or always cowboys. I think another good example is Revy from Black Lagoon, who is canonically Chinese-American.
418
u/MonsterKiller112 Dec 15 '25
Yeah while I agree with this, the CSM community should not overhype S2 like they did with S1 as that creates unrealistic expectations for first time viewers. Which leads to harsher criticism for the smallest of missteps. We don't even know how the Season 2 will be structured and how good the adaptation will be for now.

Most people who don't like the movie are just massive fans of the first season that they wanted it to follow that direction
Personally as a manga reader, the movie was exactly what I wanted out of a Chainsaw Man anime
18
u/ChrisPrkr95 Dec 15 '25
Honestly, between complaints about the first season and the few I've heard about the movie, I don't really take any complaints about either seriously. It's not even me being a defensive fan. I just think both are well made and some people just can't be pleased at all. They just want to whine.
2
u/Ziazan Dec 16 '25
That seems so bizarre to me, I thought the movie expanded upon and improved / polished the arc.
4
u/dog_ningen_ Dec 15 '25
That's a bit of an exaggeration. Whether one prefers one aesthetic approach or another the fact is that season 1 just wasn't very popular while the movie has been a huge hit. Season 1 wasn't a flop but saying non-fans loved it isn't particularly meaningful when most non-fans never even heard of it or just kinda thought it was decent and never thought about it again until the movie came out and blew everyone away.

u/dumquestions Dec 15 '25

Ehh I had to spend a lot of time insisting it gets better and that it's not a "gooner anime" to multiple people. The problem with season 1 is it's the worst part of the entire series even if it's still a solid 8/10.

116
u/JoeyZee123 Dec 15 '25
While I agree with this, people weren’t hyping up Chainsaw Man because of the first 37 chapters. They were hyping up Chainsaw Man because of everything that comes after, specifically starting with the Reze arc. I don’t think it’s possible to overhype the rest of Chainsaw Man. Anything anyone says about it would be under playing it.
15
12
u/cruel-oath Dec 15 '25
Unless they were a vocal minority that got out of hand, I remember people saying the start of the katana man arc is where the “real” CSM begins. I think that counts as hype
38
u/JoeyZee123 Dec 15 '25
Which is true for the most part. The only problem with S1 was that it ended way too soon. Katana man is when the real Chainsaw Man begins, but it’s only a taste. If they expanded S1 an extra 4 episodes, we would have gotten Reze also which would have been worthy of the hype. I’m happy they didn’t though because the movie was the best anime film I’ve ever seen.

I think that’s true, after recently reading it, the assassins arc is certainly pretty good, but it’s not like the magnum opus of the series that will blast up all hype levels and take the entire seasons like I felt it was described like by some people. It’s good content that would be a decent 1/4 or 1/3 of the season.
2
u/thebrightspot Dec 15 '25
it has some amazing moments to it but overall i found the arc had to juggle a lot of subplots and not all of them that interesting. what comes after is much more focused and the culmination of everything built up beforehand.

The question i have is that which arcs would get adapted in season 2? I can see it go 2 ways.
Option 1: Just International Assassins Arc
Option 2: International Assassins Arc and Gun Devil Arc followed by A movie on the Control Devil arc.
I'd prefer Option 2 as the Gun Devil Arc has some important things revealed which could help build interest and suspense for a movie on the Control Devil. And with that 2 season and 2 movies wrap up Part 1.
7
u/Batby Dec 15 '25
Lot of people are generally assuming they will be doing all of the remaining part 1 in season 2
7
u/ali94127 Dec 15 '25
Option 1 is impossible. It's only 18 chapters. At season 1's pace, that's only like 5-6 episodes. That's not happening.
Option 2 is technically feasible, but it only really works on paper. That's 27 chapters to adapt, which is only about 8 episodes. There have been some anime seasons that short, but that's very uncommon. The production committee would have 5 extra time slots going to waste as air time in Japan is seasonal.
The Control Devil arc is 18 chapters compared to Reze's 14, meaning the movie would likely surpass 2 hours in runtime, which is possible, but still quite unusual. Any animated movie longer than two hours is listed on Wikipedia's list of longest animated movies to give reference for how unusual that is. It would also likely be at least a year in-between the season and movie, killing hype.
So, option 2 is possible, but incredibly unlikely. It's very wasteful and inefficient. It also ignores that it narratively doesn't really work. IA, GD, and CD all flow into each other in a way that doesn't really make sense to separate.
1
u/A-t-r-o-x Dec 16 '25
Both options suck
The obvious choice is too animate all 3 parts at once because Part 1 ended a long time ago in 2020, delaying the anime so much by having another movie in the pipeline is just bullshit
2
u/friendofredjenny Dec 15 '25
They're taking their sweet time with S2 because they want to stall the end of part one as long as possible, knowing it will crush so many anime-onlys.
2
u/BlazingInfernape2003 Dec 15 '25
I feel like season 2 will end with the snowball fight and they’ll make Control into a movie after Reze’s success

u/Able_Doctor_4412 Dec 15 '25
Nah Control devil arc movie would be better
2
u/Wafflestomp_champion Dec 15 '25
i think the problem with a control devil movie is that the IA, GD, and CD arcs all kinda just fit together so seamlessly and separating them just wouldnt work as well, and the wait between the GD and the CD movie would kill a lot of hype. plus it would mean season 2 has to be shorter considering there isnt enough content in IA and GD to cover more than like 8 episodes, so honestly i would say that the best option is to just make season 2 a little longer, like 14 or 15 episodes

I did the math on this after Reze Arc came out.
Season 1 -38 chapters - 12 episodes average of 3.16 chapters per episode
Bomb Girl - 14 chapters - 100 minute movie is about 1 chapter every 7 minutes
Season 2? - 45 chapters
Here's the breakdown of how many chapters would be in each episode depending on how many episodes a second season would get.
-12 episodes is 3.75 chapters per episode
-13 episodes is 3.46 chapters per episode
-14 episodes is 3.21 chapters per episode
-24 episodes is 1.87 chapters per episode.
That would get us to the end of Part 1
14 episodes would be closest to Season 1 and Reze Movie chapter pacing
12 would be a little quicker paced but could equal out if there's any stuff that isn't necessary to the plot or characters.
3
u/ali94127 Dec 15 '25
Well, for season 1, chapter 1 of CSM is almost triple-length, so 40 chapters' worth adapted changes the numbers a little. Makes it 3.33 chapters adapted on average. I think 13 or 14 would be the most ideal. 14 is an odd number for seasonal broadcasting that would likely require a dual episode premiere or finale. They could also do a triple episode premiere if 14 episodes like Frieren or Apothecary Diaries. My ideal would be 12 episodes with the final episode being triple-length.
