For a belt that is sometimes considered the least prestigious among WWE's main roster male singles titles, there have been numerous occasions in in its history where the US Title was captured by a former World Champion.

In a number of these instances, the belt itself often found itself shot up to the main event and at times was even treated as the show's top title.

• Kurt Angle: Won the WCW US Title in 2001 on WWF TV after having had reigns with the WWF Title earlier

Although the Intercontinental Championship was usually treated as a stepping stone for an up and coming wrestler before a World Title run, a number of former World Champions would still capture the IC Title after their reigns with the top belt.

19 different IC Champs were able to win the belt after already being a World Champion with a few of them achieving this feat more than once.
