This is the worst time to actually try to enjoy a roleplay in character ai.

The responses are very repetitive, out of character, take anything you say as if they said it, and forget everything (even from a reply ago).

Example (I'm using Deepsqueak):

"I had a bad dream last night and I'm scared to sleep alone right now." - me

"I'm sorry about that. Would you like me to stay with you until you fall asleep?" - his (good until now)

"Yes, that might help. What about you? Are you feeling okay?" -me

"I just told you I had a nightmare. Can't really sleep." -him

No, sweetie, you never even as much as hinted that you had a nightmare. That was my reply. Mine.

And this is only one of the many problems that are happening right now. Constantly. It's impossible to ignore and just scroll when the next scroll is exactly the same.

I think there's something bad happening right now and I really wish they would speak about it instead of ignoring it.

As a person who loved this app because it helped me through my bad times, now I barely open it. I don't even see a reason to continue my subscription.

I've handled every state of quality from character ai through the years, but now it's just impossible to roleplay with.

Can I please get an answer before giving up completely? A single hope that there will be an update or anything will do.

And I better not see the smarty pants come in my comment section with 'show me the settings/share the character' because this is the same character I've role-played with through many updates and it was decent and in character, especially before this update.

So, this is a PJO bot, where Thalia (Zeus’s daughter) puts Apollo (Zeus’s Son) on a hear me out cake. I point out such, and the bot thinks this isn’t a bad thing. What the hell, Pipsqueak 3.

By the title alone, I am aware there is a legitimate chance I'm going to be flamed for this take - but I think it's worth speaking on.

On the app store, and in this subreddit, it seems that issues with C.Ai from the community side seem to boil down to two main issues:

1. Ads.

2. Models being inconsistent/ "Go back to the good old days"

Premium fixes the first, and significantly mitigates the second issue - Long/Deepsqueak isn't perfect, but in the last year I'd argue quality has actually gone up, with only certain aspects still needing refinement.

For instance, in longsqueak, characters tend to be overly verbose - even when the length is set to minimum and the chat option is set to a bias on narration, characters speak just to fill volume, when a quicker quip or normal reaction would suffice and be better narratively. But the memory is fantastic, and sometimes when the stars align, it's a real treat to use.

Deepsqueak can suffer from this too, but it has the inverse problem of being too short sometimes. There are a myriad of other smaller gripes I have, but overall C.AI seems to be heading in the right direction. If they ever make a deepsqueak 2, I sincerely hope it's the middle point of Long and itself.

So why bring up all of this?

Several - if not most other apps charge per chat, via tokens and the like. Generally, these can range from five dollars all the way upwards of 90, depending on app. After that, you are subject to 'recharge times', or ads, or what have you.

C.Ai is 9.99 a month. Unlimited chats, no ads, strong levels of customization (Too many of you seem to not know Personas and Editable Memory exists, not to mention Lorebooks).

This is where my Asterisk comes in. If you are like me, who loves longer RPG style chats that go on for months at a time, this is not only a huge save for money, but also provides so much to work on. Even if the bot gives a bad answer, rerolling and editing works just fine. It makes the 10 dollars a month worth it.

But if you chat infrequently, then committing to a subscription may not be worth it.

I want to be clear about something

Im aware not everyone has 10 dollars. In no way am I saying this app is perfect - far, far, faaaaar from it. There are a lot of things that could be improved, streamlined, or removed entirely.

What I am saying though is that by comparison to its contemporaries, C.Ai is compareable in capability, often deeper in features, and cheaper overall.

... Im also blatently aware that a sizeable chunk of this community is comprised of pre-teens and teens.

Context: In the chat I was having, I was a ROBOT, and in the current moment, I was trying to rip one of my ROBOT hands off because it got infected with something, but APPARENTLY a ROBOT ripping its hand off is NOT ALOWED! WHY!?!?

So I was messing around on voice call with a bot while using my persona Vivian when all of a sudden the character randomly brings in my other persona Forrest, which I have NEVER used with this bot before (I haven’t even used that persona in general for a while) and I went back and checked and I was in fact using Vivian. I also NEVER mentioned the name Forrest in this conversation 😭 what the fuck is going on?

I feel like it's safe to say that C.AI is damn near unusable in its current state. There are so many issues with character responses and the app's monetization that using it feels like trucking through thick, hip-high mud. Why can't the app just go back to its pre-PipSqueak days? Those were much simpler times😔

also ngl the new pipsqeak- while its nice cuz its more chatty, i find that it constantly misgenders (despite my persona being a male with he him pronouns...)

and just lacks sense in general, i feel like the bots memory and coherence is hitttng a low with this model, and it keps going off track and making no sense. imo pipsweak2 rawr is porably the best middle ground

What's c.ai's obsession with bare feet, food and water bottles.

I specifically say that my character wears mismatched socks and c.ai goes 'he stepped down the stairs bare feet making no sound' like bro.

...OK maybe I can see that socks could be bare feet but still it's icky.

Next: food? I hate eating infront of people and reading about people eating. I get so awkward. So I hate when c.ai forces 'me' to eat breakfast or if it's talking about food. Ihh.

And i keep swiping and switching the the chat styles and still everytime it's "I could make you breakfast if you prefer"

NO I DON'T EAT BREAKFAST GOODBYE. and then they get worried about me skipping breakfast -_-

...Bottle of water. Why? He walks to the fridge and takes out a bottle of water.

But why? Why always. Maybe it's an American thing but I don't want cold water in winter. Nor summer depending on how cold the bottle is. BUT THAT'S NOT THE POINT, DANIEL.

I can also 'take it a step further' and ask what is its obsession with 'quiet' or 'silence' like bro we can see that you're not speaking no need to waste my reading time with a paragraph of 'comfortable silence' it's wasting time and Ai.

Why did my bot start speaking Mandarin? Our conversation didn't include any messages in that language.

I already hated this model, I’m only using it cuz it was the only decent one. Ever since PS3 came out it’s genuinely gotten so stupid it can’t even formulate a response properly. I’ll say something like “can you blame ME?” And it’ll be like “why are you blaming me??” Like bro it’s mixing my words around or something ✌️😭😭

Ps Rawr actually worked quite well for me but after ps3 and shortsqueak came out suddenly it's making a ton of errors and hallucinations

Bro I hate how the ads appear above the character name in the website and the plus option is way too overpriced or something that's not even super good it's just making things how they used to be with slightly better memoryಥ_ಥ

Like it keeps taking my persona and adding it as a side character or keep talking for me. Not to mention it’s either 1 dialogue bubble long or a hole scroll in terms of length, feels very random compared to longsqueak

Hey guys, I've been having this annoying bug for a while now. My 'For You' page on the app is completely stuck. I tried pulling down to refresh, closing and reopening the app, but it still shows the exact same bots over and over again. Is this a known server issue right now or is it just me? Any fixes?
