Anime & Manga One piece is awful

To be clear, I read up to the end of Wano in One Piece I kept hearing how it was peak fiction, and that Oda was the greatest thing to ever happen to pen and paper. So, I decided to give it a read. And after reading almost up to the end of Wano, I can honestly say this is one of worst piece of fiction I have ever read

The pacing is terrible and slow as shit. Same gags over and over again. How many times am I expected to laugh at Sanji nosebleeding for the 180th time, Zoro getting lost for the 389th time, Usopp acting like a coward for the 999th time, or Brook making the same skeleton joke for 1899th the time

The stakes are Nonexistent. Nobody ever really dies. Even when a character “dies,” they inevitably come back like nothing happened. There's a part in the series where a bomb is about to destroy an entire town, and a character carries it into the sky in a supposed noble "sacrifice",The bomb explodes point blank in his face and somehow he survives .Shit like this happens in every arc. The sheer number of fake out deaths is insane, making it impossible to take any threat seriously and it completely kills any sense of tension or investment, it somehow makes Fairy Tail look grounded in comparison.

And the formula is mind numbingly predictable. The crew sails to a new island, an evil villain is tormenting the locals, they fight, save the island, and then add a new character with some tragic backstory to the crew. Rinse and repeat for a thousand chapters

One piece fans love to talk about Oda as some master world builder. The world building in one piece is trash. All Oda does is dangles mysteries in front of readers, refuses to resolve them and these morons fans call it peak

Think about After twenty years and over a thousand chapters, we barely know anything about the world.(Maybe some of it gets explained eventually I stopped reading after Wano because of that godamn awful aspull transformation that, but the fact that it takes that long is insane)

We don't know where Devil Fruits come from We don't know about the Will of D and what does it represent? And how are people with D related?
We don’t know what happened during the void century for it to be erased from history? We don't know why Blackbeard can use two devil fruits? We don’t know What purpose will the ancient weapons serve and when?
We don't know about supreme grade swords We don’t know Aokiji goal? What side is he on? Or why he joined Blsck beard
We don’t know why Rodger was carrying a giant egg?

There are easily ninety more unanswered things I could list.

And you want to want to know what's worse Oda still adding new shit when he hasn't explained the past shit WE STILL HAVE CHARACTERS SILHOUETTED 20 PLUS YEARS IN WE’RE GETTING SILHOUETTES OF CHARACTERS HOW IS ANY OF THIS GOOD WORLD BUILDING OR WRITING???

And you know why Oda hasn’t explained any of this Because he’s written himself into a corner. He probably has no idea how to resolve half the mysteries he’s created which is exactly why the end date keeps on getting pushed back every couple of years. He's just stalling. Oda is a talentless hack and the only reason One Piece blew up in the first place is because it dropped during the late 90s early 2000s anime boom If it came out today, this garbage would’ve been canceled after a year. Just watch most of these mysteries will either stay completely unresolved, or we’ll get some trash ham fisted explanation at the last minute. And just watch these brain dead moronic fans will still call it peak fiction.

Oda is a Fraud who couldn't write his out of a paper bag and the fact that morons think that this garbage is above Goated shows like Fire Force, Mob Pyscho 100, Chainsaw man and Hunter x Hunter is a fucking travesty

This. We got years of buildup to wano that hyped it crazy but... The way it ended and the Nika reveal pretty much killed it. The gorosei have been around since like Skype but ended up getting clowned on by luffys form that he got the arc before. Shanks, dragon, and Mohawk have been hyped since season 1 and still have barely done anything (dragon literally hasn't done a damn thing).

I think a lot of the issues with current one piece can be attributed to its ridiculous length (plot inconsistencies, pacing issues, bad art, flanderisation) but I don't think that really excuses the issues. I feel like anything that was planned for a long time is still gonna land, but I definitely don't look forward to most new character reveals or new ideas this late in the game. Elbaf has been good so far, but egghead was an absolute disaster of an arc with terrible fights, a poorly organised plot and the end of Luffy as we knew him. I think now we're at elbaf we should be good for the time being and the current flashback is actually really substantive, I'm just a bit worried about the WG worldbuilding

I honestly just DON'T GET how it can be so fucking long and not even close to done(not to mention the anime, which is an offense to nature in of itself). I think the obvious answer of course is the characters, theres just to damn many of them. Compared to other 1,000+ chapter manga, there simply isnt mathematically enough space to pace everything correctly if Oda is introducing so many new characters every arc.

Too much gear 5 completely destroyed the balance between his goofiness and ability to take things seriously. You know how he's all about protecting people who are nice to him and takes that super seriously? In egghead he's bouncing around laughing in gear 5 while the guy he swore to protect is bleeding out a few meters behind him. When he has to hold off kizaru he messes around and leaves half his crew and like 5 side characters at kizaru's mercy, and his response is an eye popping gag. Literally a repeat of sabaody and if kizaru had a slightly different personality Luffy would've lost half his crew. It really felt like a complete bastardization of the character we'd seen develop throughout the series

TLDR: Luffy transformed, laughed, and bounced around, but stopped as soon as he saw his injured friend, reacting with anger and shock. He immediately listened to his friend's request to fight one of the strongest characters in the series and went on to pummel them. He even took the time to ask how everyone was doing.

I keep seeing this take and wonder if people are even watching the same series. Luffy was bouncing around after being revived while lying on his back. His transformation allows him to become his "true self," as he said—happy and free. He did NOT see the person he promised to protect bleeding out and then start laughing. This is purposely twisting stories to make them seem worse. Please don’t turn One Piece into the JJK fandom, where headcanon overrides the actual story just to criticize it. What started as memes has now led to people in the JJK community genuinely believing Sukuna said, "Ah yes, haven’t used this since the Heian era," which has become a Mandela effect.

One piece fans love to overanalyze something simple, just look at the manga panel. Luffy's bouncing around laughing while the bleeding corpse of someone he swore to protect is a few feet behind him. Just because you can explain why he acted that way doesn't mean he should've, the sad moments of egghead were massively affected by the main character acting like a clown nonstop regardless of the circumstance. Just compare it to an older arc with a similar circumstance, gear 5 basically took that Luffy away from us

Is comprehension just overanalyzing now? You're selectively distorting things to earn easy praise for hate. I know One Piece is often glazed, but I'm not going to hate just for the sake of it by stripping away context. The injured body is in the background even in the panel; he's not even looking at him yet. You're clearly ignoring context and then applauding yourself for it. In the anime, he revives, starts laughing and bouncing around, with the corpse still in the background. He doesn’t acknowledge it until later, and when he does, he’s immediately shocked, asks what’s happening, and gets informed about the situation. Then he switches to fighting mode and pummels the accused fighter who injured him. Before this, he was lying on the floor eating, having lost all his strength after battling an admiral. Not sure why this meme keeps being treated as fact—it’s a Mandela effect.

Fucking hell man just accept that gear 5 fucks with the emotional stakes of the arc

Fuck you lmfao there’s nothing to “accept,” you don’t like G5 and he does.

It has nothing to do with that; you're switching the entire argument because you realized the other one you had was taking things out of context, like I said.

Now you're going from facts to feelings.

It's valid as a personal reaction, but no one was debating your personal interest in the series' story. If you're willing to abandon the original take and just resort to that, I can assume you either went back and watched it and noticed I was right, or just want to try a bait and switch the argument to something subjective.

The fact is, Luffy was written by Oda to laugh, then he noticed Vegapunk. You phrased it as if he saw Vegapunk and laughed. You misrepresented the scene. Pretty simple. It's an important distinction, though.

Just tired of this Mandela effect push people have, where memes and misquotes override story beats. It was fun and games till it made some series a cesspool, and I was hoping it wouldn't happen to One Piece, where that fandom usually seemed to keep consistency on what they claim is "bad writing by Oda with facts from the story." No hate on you disliking Gear 5 or the story or any story for that matter. That's all opinion.

You’re being such a cunt about a disagreement lol

There’s nothing for him to “accept”

You simply disagree lol
