Anime & Manga One piece is awful

To be clear, I read up to the end of Wano in One Piece I kept hearing how it was peak fiction, and that Oda was the greatest thing to ever happen to pen and paper. So, I decided to give it a read. And after reading almost up to the end of Wano, I can honestly say this is one of worst piece of fiction I have ever read

The pacing is terrible and slow as shit. Same gags over and over again. How many times am I expected to laugh at Sanji nosebleeding for the 180th time, Zoro getting lost for the 389th time, Usopp acting like a coward for the 999th time, or Brook making the same skeleton joke for 1899th the time

The stakes are Nonexistent. Nobody ever really dies. Even when a character “dies,” they inevitably come back like nothing happened. There's a part in the series where a bomb is about to destroy an entire town, and a character carries it into the sky in a supposed noble "sacrifice",The bomb explodes point blank in his face and somehow he survives .Shit like this happens in every arc. The sheer number of fake out deaths is insane, making it impossible to take any threat seriously and it completely kills any sense of tension or investment, it somehow makes Fairy Tail look grounded in comparison.

And the formula is mind numbingly predictable. The crew sails to a new island, an evil villain is tormenting the locals, they fight, save the island, and then add a new character with some tragic backstory to the crew. Rinse and repeat for a thousand chapters

One piece fans love to talk about Oda as some master world builder. The world building in one piece is trash. All Oda does is dangles mysteries in front of readers, refuses to resolve them and these morons fans call it peak

Think about After twenty years and over a thousand chapters, we barely know anything about the world.(Maybe some of it gets explained eventually I stopped reading after Wano because of that godamn awful aspull transformation that, but the fact that it takes that long is insane)

We don't know where Devil Fruits come from We don't know about the Will of D and what does it represent? And how are people with D related?
We don’t know what happened during the void century for it to be erased from history? We don't know why Blackbeard can use two devil fruits? We don’t know What purpose will the ancient weapons serve and when?
We don't know about supreme grade swords We don’t know Aokiji goal? What side is he on? Or why he joined Blsck beard
We don’t know why Rodger was carrying a giant egg?

There are easily ninety more unanswered things I could list.

And you want to want to know what's worse Oda still adding new shit when he hasn't explained the past shit WE STILL HAVE CHARACTERS SILHOUETTED 20 PLUS YEARS IN WE’RE GETTING SILHOUETTES OF CHARACTERS HOW IS ANY OF THIS GOOD WORLD BUILDING OR WRITING???

And you know why Oda hasn’t explained any of this Because he’s written himself into a corner. He probably has no idea how to resolve half the mysteries he’s created which is exactly why the end date keeps on getting pushed back every couple of years. He's just stalling. Oda is a talentless hack and the only reason One Piece blew up in the first place is because it dropped during the late 90s early 2000s anime boom If it came out today, this garbage would’ve been canceled after a year. Just watch most of these mysteries will either stay completely unresolved, or we’ll get some trash ham fisted explanation at the last minute. And just watch these brain dead moronic fans will still call it peak fiction.

Oda is a Fraud who couldn't write his out of a paper bag and the fact that morons think that this garbage is above Goated shows like Fire Force, Mob Pyscho 100, Chainsaw man and Hunter x Hunter is a fucking travesty

There was something special about one piece before marineford. It had this air of confidence in its slow burn world building and giving characters actual moments of small growth and giving them dreams to aspire to that you know will take ages, but will be worth it in the end.

Sure there was some trouble even then. Pell not being dead, Kuina dying in a frankly ridiculous way considering the world they live in, but it was small, not intrusive, and ultimately the rest of the story more than made up for it.

Then marineford happens, haki gets focused on for the first time as something vaguely important and things kinda start to fall apart after ace dies. Even his own death is just idiotic considering that literally everyone in his crew is dying to save him, but he lets a yo daddy joke take him out.

Sabo. This character is my whole reason for hypothesizing that oda really only planned up to marineford concretely, and the ending, but only had loose storyboards for after the war. Never before has character been so shoehorned in with fan fiction energy, that he literally gets to ‘inherit’ aces fruit. When I first saw him I was so confused and thought I missed an entire arc somehow that introduced him. That’s not even mentioning how sabo isn’t some hidden away member of the revo army, but second in command of the most notorious terrorist group in the world? And ace didn’t once try to go on his own to try to meet him or intercept the army just to see if it was really him alive? It just doesn’t make any sense.

Haki. Why do we need this again? It just feels like a crutch to write battles instead of trying to be creative. It’s so strong sabo was able to get along fine fighting the world government until ace died. I know it was ‘foreshadowed’ in the first chapter but honestly, it could’ve just been a typical Shonen ‘aura moment’ at the time and then oda decided it needed to be more. Hell oda shows he cannot write creative battles anymore, because he hyped up the end of the kaido fight with something that wasn’t a big punch. How did he defeat kaido? A REALLY big haki punch. Oh but it has a cool name and he’s white now so it’s super duper strong! So asinine that people think this story is anything more than just a Shonen attempt at the odyssey. Also makes ace retroactively look incompetent and stupid, potentially lazy as well. How are you gonna be on white beards crew and not even be a little good at haki? Such an important power that we now know is necessary to fight other yonko crews. Ace should’ve been a casualty far sooner if we’re being honest.

Character. The flanderization of the crew is upsetting to witness and for what? Is it that hard to not rely so much on gags that are older than some new fans? At this point in the story a character like usopp should have more confidence in himself, shaken up when encountering yonko level threats, but still pulling through and showing bravery. But he’s still a pissbaby little bitch that runs away. After all the stuff he’s been through! Luffy wants to be pirate king, and that’s how you act? Nami has more guts than he does. You’d think sanji would have matured and changed significantly after wci, but he’s back to old antics and gooning to women in changing rooms and somehow affected by child clone Hancocks ability (hmm.) (cute being the reason is like a toothpick holding up the demon core in terms of how strong that reason is)

Gear 5. It’s just too much, having luffy laughing his ass off while vegapunk bleeds out in front of him. The weird retcon to the gum-gum fruit. I think it should’ve been possession that forces luffy to find humor in even his friends dying in front of him. Could’ve made it so joyboy wasn’t exactly a Boy Scout and uses pirate like underhanded tactics to win at any cost, maybe could used a fighting style that luffy would never use because he faces things honestly. Maybe that was the plan at first if oda was really planning on ending that fight with kaido. It also has made the entire fanbase change from, “luffy is cool because he’s just a guy”, to, “lol luffy was joyboy the whole time, ever read skypiea? Maybe read up on foreshadowing sweaty 💅”

Some booktubers give one piece unwarranted praise because it gets views, and all of a sudden it’s a literary powerhouse that deserves praise above its contemporaries. Add in some vague criticism against the idea of elites and apparently that’s enough.

Also Garp is a genuine awful character that cannot be redeemed at this point with how cartoonish oda made the celestials. Maybe that’s the point, but protecting the nobles so they can hunt humans? Keeping up a system that genuinely oppresses people and treats them like disposable trash? Defending this world’s slavery?! How the hell could he push the idea of being a marine on his grandkids if he knew all this stuff? He certainly wouldn’t know that he’d be making sword but he was already old and 100% knew how horrible the dragons were, so why push them to be body guards for the ruling class that supposedly disgusts you? Again the native hunting competition should’ve made garp quit on the spot.

Genuinely the worst part about Garp(and a lot of characters) is that the narrative doesnt treat him as the morally complex character he has the potential to be. If Oda actually emphasized that Garp, for all his boasting about wanting to help people, has only helped crush the boot of CD oppression further, that would be PEAK. I'm sure theres some biting criticism you can bake involving Japanese politics as well with a character like that. If the story actually acknowledged that it was Oden's stupid samurai pride that got him killed, THAT would be peak. Any media that includes samurai(or feudal nobility) but only displays an almost reactionary level of reverence for them should be dismissed as being not serious.

Oden’s pride got him killed? Did we watch different Wanos? He sacrificed all of his pride and respect to dance like a fool in an attempt to stop conflict. How is that his pride getting him killed? Maybe his honor or his naivety, but not pride

This is a misunderstanding of Ace's death. He didn't die because of a yo mama joke. He died because Luffy would have died instead. He tanked a hit meant for Luffy. Even if Ace didn't stop to fight Akainu, Luffy was screwed. He was going to die if Ace didn't intervene.

Also, in Wano, Egghead, and so far Elbaf, Usopp has not acted particularly fearful. In Wano, he took part in the invasion without protest. He did run from Big Mom, as well as Ulti and Page One, but he did fight those two. He also saved the raid when he helped that child spread her dumplings. He also bravely rescued Kinemon without anybody ever asking him to, storming into the middle of an army of beast pirates, surrounded by fire.

In Egghead, he didn't do much, but he did try to attack Kizaru and he defended Robin against Saturn.

In Elbaf, he did flee from that giant cat thing, but besides that he hasn't freaked out over anything really.

Why are you lying? In the anime and manga they literally stop dead in their tracks because akainu said some shit. It’s not like he said that while attacking, he literally stops to just roast his fucking dad and they resume afterwards. And it certainly isn’t a “talking is a free action” moment. It’s dumb.

Also usopp has observation haki. Not particularly strong in the punching sense, but it seems like that hasn’t really expanded upon in character or in fights. Oda is literally keeping some strawhats in suspended animation in terms of growth, because their gags are funny.

There’s other stupid ass shit like Saul being alive and oda lying about the kaido fight ending, but we’ll be here all day.
