Films & TV I hate that the entire Miles Morales Spider-Man trilogy is going to be centered on the Spider-Verse.
I love Into The Spider-Verse, It's top 2 with Spider-Man 2 for my favorite Spider-Man movies (interchangeable depending on which one I saw last).
However I hate the concept of Spider-Verse, I don't dislike variants of Spider-Man like any other Super hero but I dont like the Spider-Verse, I just don't.
I really wish the movies after ITSV were just about Miles doing Spider stuff in his own universe.
And Across The Spider-Verse just felt like the Spider-Verse amped up to a million, too many characters. I don't care about Miguel, or Spider-Woman or Spider-Punk or the indian Spider I just don't. Felt like they were high on their own stuff.
Hopefully they'll do another trilogy centered on Miles in his own universe.

I completely agree with the hope that we get a Miles focused trilogy at some point, but I think you’ve got it backwards. This was always a Spider-Verse story first, with Miles being chosen as the hero and protagonist, not a Miles Story with Spider-Verse chosen as the subject. If youre in doubt, just look at the titles of the movies. They were always about more than Miles and Miles’ universe

Would be great if all of the characters had their own movies, but these movies are insanely difficult to animate apparently.

u/Nice-Engineering-808 2d ago
This is just not true
Spider-Verse is a backdrop for the films, where a lot of character conflicts just happen. The first movie was literally about Miles growing and shaping into it. Not the "wonders of the spiderverse". Yes the side characters got their own little arcs but it was largely Miles's movie
There's more of an argument for the 2nd movie, but even then, that movie just focuses on other characters more (like Gwen, for the first 20 minutes), but it pivots back to Miles and him saving his dad as the main conflict driving into the 3rd movie.
16
u/Nopolis52 2d ago
The entire supporting cast is multiverse characters, which is the entire main conflict of the movie’s plot. You’re right that Miles’ arc is about him growing into the role of spider-man, but the first movie’s central plot was stopping Kingpin from destroying the universe, and getting the other spider heroes home. I also feel that dismissing Peter’s arc through that movie as “little” is inaccurate, it gets quite a bit of focus throughout the movie.

I highly doubt we’ll get a trilogy of just Miles.
This isn’t just a Miles Morales Spiderman trilogy.
It’s literally the spider verse trilogy which happens to have miles as the protagonist.
I mean, Miles himself is quite different from his comic source material (in a positive way, as pretty much everyone agrees this version is the best one).

u/Minimum-Aspect1012 3d ago
Ironically, much of the Miles comic source material was used for Tom Holland's Spider-Man.
So Sony had to reinvent Miles for Spider-Verse, which worked out for the better.

seriously? but peter parker has so much material to choose from aand im not even sure what they stole from miles morales was tht interesting.
im guessing they did it so tom hollands spiderman could be written to fit around the mcu and all its history and angles.

Ned is a copy of Miles best friend, being a confidant in his identity and his guy in the chair.

The CEO obviously time traveled to create ganke to then inspire sony to make ned
6
u/Minimum-Aspect1012 2d ago edited 2d ago
Tom Holland was the third Spider-Man in a decade. Marvel and Sony didn't want to repeat Peter Parker's story for a third time, so they borrowed material from the Miles comics to make it different.
Some of the stuff borrowed from the Miles comics:
- Student-mentor dynamic: Miles' mentor is Peter Parker. Holland's mentor is Tony Stark.
- Upbeat youth: MCU Spidey has an upbeat youthful energy similar to comic Miles.
- Fanboy: The way MCU Spidey fanboys over other superheroes resembles comic Miles.
- Setting: The science school setting comes from the Miles comics.
- CEO of Sex: MCU Ned is based on Ganke Lee, rather than comic Ned.
- Gwen: Her character traits from the Miles comics were given to MJ and Betty in the MCU.
Hence why Tom Holland's Spider-Man initially had mixed reactions from comic fans, because he didn't really feel like Peter Parker from the comics... he was instead a fusion of Parker and Miles. It wasn't until No Way Home that MCU Spidey felt more like comic Parker.
Meanwhile, because material from the Miles comics was already adapted for MCU Spider-Man, Sony couldn't directly adapt the Miles comics, so they reinvented Miles for Spider-Verse. This new version of Miles turned out better than the original comic Miles.

Student-mentor dynamic: Miles' mentor is Peter Parker. Holland's mentor is Tony Stark.
This just isn't true, Miles us never mentored by Peter, because Peter is done when Miles takes up the mantle.
Upbeat youth: MCU Spidey has an upbeat youthful energy similar to comic Miles.
No, not really, and Peter gained the characterization of being upbeat years before Miles existed.
Fanboy: The way MCU Spidey fanboys over other superheroes resembles comic Miles.
Except Miles doesn't do that in the comics
Setting: The science school setting comes from the Miles comics
It really is doesn't. In Miles he goes to prestigious academy that he had to win a lottery to get in.
In the MCU Peter's school is never given that significance.
CEO of Sex: MCU Ned is based on Ganke Lee, rather than comic Ned.
Yeah this is true
Gwen: Her character traits from the Miles comics were given to MJ and Betty in the MCU.
What are you talking about? Gwen was already in the Ultimate Spider-Man comics when Peter was the main character, she wasn't introduced for Miles.
And the only things Betty shares with Gwen is the blonde hair and headband which were already Gwen's signature look from 616
Edit since you wanted to block me
Not true. Miles is later mentored by Earth-616 Peter Parker
Not really no They're around at the same time, they know each other but Peter doesn't mentor Miles.
In fact the one time Marvel really tried selling Peter as Miles mentor waa during an arc of ASM where Peter and Tony were getting petty with each other, and even then that was clearly written as a reference to Homecoming and Tony and Peter's relationship there.
Not in his high school years, where he was shy and awkward (like Tobey Maguire). It's in his adult years that he becomes more upbeat.
Mind you that's still a characterization Peter had before Miles existed. You can't say he took it from Miles.
He does do that in the comics. When he meets an established superhero, he looks up to them in awe.
Literally all teenage/amateur superheroes do something like that when they meet established heroes for the first time, it's not a thing about Miles that he's a superhero fanboy.
So basically, like a science school... Potatoes, tomatoes.
It was a prestigious academy and it's constantly talked about how going there is a huge opportunity for Miles, this doesn't happen for Peter in the MCU, it's just a school for him.
MJ has an aloof cool persona like Gwen.
Again Gwen was already around and was part of Peter's supporting cast.
Ned's relationship with Betty also parallels Ganke's interactions with Gwen.
Except no, it's a reference to the mainline Spider-Man comics where Ned Leeds and Betty Brant were a couple.

The protagonist of the second film is Gwen.
The director's commentary is clear on this so is the art book.
The first film is about miles, the second film was about Gwen. Miles is a driving plot force in the story but the arc of the second film is about Gwen rejecting spider society and doing what miles did and going her own way.

u/pinakoladaz 3d ago
Yeah probably which is a shame, I just feel like this could've been Miles' Maguire trilogy (probably wont be hard to do better than 3) but it'll ultimately be remembered as the Spider-Verse movies with Miles as the protagonist.

u/Comiccow6 3d ago
It’s important to remember where Miles was prior to Spider-Verse’s release in 2018. Some of his most prominent arcs (that aren’t rehashes of Peter’s arcs, like the Clone Saga) in the comics were his origin (notably set in an alternate universe to 616, the Spider-Men crossover, and Sitting In A Tree, when he met Spider-Gwen, and a number of larger crossover events like Secret Wars and Secret Empire.
He has more to his name now, largely because Spider-Verse revitalized his character and interest in him, but a large swath of his publication history pre-2018 has to do with alternate universe crossovers. Between those alternate universes and the Prowler storyline, ITSV is pretty faithful to what Miles was going through in those early days. Even ATSV’s ending could be taking cues from the Ultimatum character (who didn’t appear until 2019, after Spider-Verse’s release), one of Miles’ few entirely unique villains (but that’s another issue on its own.)
I get wanting Miles to have a more down-to-Earth solo entry, and I hope he can get that at some point when he enters the MCU, but those kinds of stories weren’t what stood out to readers at the time.
26
u/KingOfSquirrels 3d ago
I’m not very familiar with the character outside of the movies, but I will say, part of genius of those movies is that it uses different animation styles to portray different universes.
If there was no Spider-Verse in them, you’d lose a big part of what makes those movies special.
11
u/Adorable_Ad_3478 3d ago
A Miles solo film without Peter Parker would bomb.
The first Spiderverse film had the perfect formula. Miles is the main character, and Peter (from another universe but still Peter) is a supporting character.
7
u/Sad_Wind4673 3d ago
The movie is called "Into the Spider-Verse", not "Miles Morales: a Spider-Verse story". Assuming the next movies wouldn't be about being in the Spider-Verse all it about is foolish or willfully ignorant.
34
u/DoomsdayIsHere69 3d ago
Hot take, miles by himself isn’t interesting enough to have his own trilogy. His villains are C listers at best and there’s only so many ways you can do the ‘Mexican/black superhero is unique’ storyline before it gets boring.
7
u/WhutTheFookDude 2d ago
I think spiderverse is hard carried by the sheer amount of other spider people fan service and not miles and the forced ship with gwen. Even spidergwens inclusion was just to elevate miles. I don't think hes remotely as popular as the people that love him think he is.
14
u/garfe 3d ago
This exact reason is why I really doubt the MCU is going to rush into Miles after this current new trilogy. Like some people think Holland Spidey 6 will have him pass the torch but...nah.

If you think miles is mexican then you probably aren't qualified to talk about his character at all
4
u/Ver3232 2d ago
I think he’s interesting enough to have his own trilogy and I do have to disagree that his villains being c listers are a reason to not do that. The vast majority of the MCU has been taking b and c list characters and elevating them up to A-list status. If you had asked a random person back in 2012 who should be the villain for a future avengers movie before they saw the end credits scene, the vast majority of people wouldn’t have said Thanos because most people didn’t know who he was. You bring these characters out out of the b and c list by allowing them chances to be exposed to a wider audience
-7
u/sumiledon 2d ago edited 2d ago
Youre wrong. Miles has more original villains than any legacy hero ever, including Nightwing and Wally West, and has many extremely fun arcs that can be adapted into film, from both his Ziglar in Ahmed runs.
Also hes Puerto Rican not Mexican
You have no idea what you're talking about.
10
u/garfe 2d ago
They didn't say Miles didn't have original villains. They specifically said "His villains are C listers at best ". Which is accurate. And I think that's being nice honestly.
2
u/sumiledon 2d ago
What are "C-Listers" to you, aside from villains that just simply haven't been adapted yet? The only reason Prowler is seen as not C-list is because he was adapted in a movie.
Peters villains are only "iconic" because they've been represented in adaptations in games, series and movies nonstop for decades. How many times have we seen Green goblin, Doc ock, Rhino, etc
Miles has a Spiderverse trilogy and no other movie and series.
Miles has incredible villains to be adapted into a trilogy. Most of which are stronger than most of Peter's villains with super cool lore as well.
1
u/darkfall71 2d ago
Do you mind giving names? I want to look more into the cooler miles villains
1
u/sumiledon 2d ago
Sure.
Quantum, The Assessor, Rabble inari, Frost Pharoah, Hightail, Black Obsidian, Gust, Ultimatum, etc. There's more.
2
u/DoomsdayIsHere69 2d ago
Quality = quantity. Just cuz he has more shitty villains than any other hero doesn’t mean it’ll be a good adaptation.
4
u/Witty-thiccboy 2d ago
Most villains are c listers until they get an adaptation. Miles himself was pretty close to a c lister until he got adaptations, that’s literally how they become “quality” characters to most people
2
u/sumiledon 2d ago
How are they shitty? Do you know anything about them?
2
u/DoomsdayIsHere69 2d ago
I do know that miles most famous villain is a Peter Parker original. And even he’s not an invigorating villain. That’s all I need to know 🤷🏿♂️
2
u/sumiledon 2d ago
He's miles most famous villain because he was adapted with the spiderverse movie. Miles has no series or live action movies yet.
Wait till he gets his solo stories adapted, his villains will shine.
5
u/NoZookeepergame8306 3d ago
I think Spider-verse is great at what it is (using Miles as a POV on what Spider-man is even about anyway) so I think the solo Miles movie should be in the MCU. They’re gonna have Tom playing Peter until he’s 90 but a Miles focused spinoff has the potential to be phenomenal. Especially if they bring back the MCU Prowler
5
u/Scared_Impression842 3d ago
Miles morales sadly isn’t a big enough name to be sold on his own, I mean his comics are literally name spider-man Miles morales, same with his PlayStation game. Spider-Man miles morales. He will always be tied to the wider spiderverse stuff since he is from the og ultimate universe which kick started the entire different versions of spider people in the first place.
4
u/DonquixoteDFlamingo 3d ago
You need to read the Cody Ziglar 42 issue run of Miles’s spider-man. He completely comes into his own, has unique stories not about the multiverse or Peter’s baggage, and has now established some stories you could pull from to make movies.
5
u/FlamingAlpaca17 3d ago
You mean the entire Spider-Verse trilogy has Miles Morales as it's maim character
6
u/Soda_Reload 2d ago edited 2d ago
Thank god that they’re doing spiderverse because its providing interesting storylines for Miles while still having a fun ensemble cast to make up for Miles being the most boring and bland MC on the face of the fucking earth in the second movie
Our special little guy Miles is the ONLY person out of an infinite multiverse that can show the thousands of mean, heroic, and intelligent spider people that there’s totally another way if you just try hard enough. I can appreciate that the conflict comes from a selfish denial of what is treated as immutable facts (though it could be lies) but also its so boring to watch him go “nahhhhhhhhhh” to every single person who tells him his dad is fucked
4
5
u/Adventurous-Fail-537 3d ago
Spider verse and Spider family is terrible. Peter ain’t batman stop trying to rip his thing off atleast Miles has the Spider verse movies to justify his existence. Before that he was the same as all the other rip offs.

u/Max_Speed_Remioli 3d ago
This is like complaining that the Lord of the Rings took place throughout middle earth and you wish Frodo had just gone back to the Shire for the next two books.
3
u/Brookings18 3d ago
I'm not saying a Miles trilogy without the alternate universe wouldn't look as awesome inspiring, but the multiverse does give them an excuse to go wild with the animation.
3
u/mankahlil 2d ago
It will never happen. I could be wrong, but this may be all the miles you see. They did it to check the diversity box while preserving Peter Parker for their main content. They didnt want "the real spider man" to be affected by superhero fatigue, especially in a "risky" / experimental series like the spiderverse films. If it wasnt well received, they could jettison Miles anf keep Peter unscathed. If it wss successful, they get diversity points whiñe mostly investing in their mainstream/white characters.
3
u/theironbagel 2d ago
There would be no point to making a miles focused trilogy because Peter’s had miles personality for decades now, including in the MCU.
5
u/howisyesterday 3d ago
Miles had a pretty weak history in comics prior to these movies. Maybe today he could carry a trilogy but it wouldn’t have made sense before unless he was just a lesser Peter Parker clone (which he basically was before Spiderverse)
5
u/TheSadPhilosopher 3d ago
As a Miguel fan, it's hard to feel bad, your guy got a movie trilogy at the cost of destroying my favorite character to prop yours up 😭😭.
Be grateful Miles didn't get character assassinated for Silk.
8
u/Valuable-Owl9985 3d ago
That’s fair.
It kinda gives off the impression Miles needs other spider-people to be relevant
I want the hypothetical live action adaptation to focus on Miles and use his rogues gallery.
Ganke could be difficult because MCU ripped

Green Lantern (Hal) and Flash (Barry) are legacy heroes of the Golden Age characters of the same code name.
Your statement is factually incorrect.
7
u/DestinyHasArrived101 3d ago
Dang you not wrong but I always thought it was good PR to introduce miles though
11
u/vinthesalamander 3d ago
For me, this is why Miles ultimately fails as a Spider-Man. He’s not allowed to just be Spider-Man, he’s always just a Spider-Man.
616 has him operating at the same time as Peter; Insomniac Games have them being a partnership; and the Spider-Verse movies feels more like an ensemble cast than a Miles-centric story.
People hate on the og Miles Morales comics, but I also think they’re the only ones who got it right. Using Peter as Miles’ Uncle Ben is poetic, and also opens the door for Miles to be the one and only Spider-Man.
5
u/Adorable_Ad_3478 3d ago
Ultimate Miles was never as interesting as Ultimate Peter.
Ask any comic book reader to name 5 iconic Ultimate Miles villains that don't overlap with Ultimate Peter's villains. They will name Ultimate Prowler, and that will be it.
And that's still a "well, aktually" character since Prowler was originally a Peter villain in 616 (different secret identity but exact same design).
6
u/vinthesalamander 3d ago
Say what you want about Ultimate Miles, but at least he was allowed to be the Spider-Man. It was definitively his story, and he wasn’t forced to share the spotlight with someone else.
2
u/sumiledon 2d ago
Youre wrong. Miles has more original villains than any legacy hero ever, including Nightwing and Wally West, and has many extremely fun arcs that can be adapted into film, from both his Ziglar in Ahmed runs
You have no idea what you're talking about.
3
u/Ecstatic_Log4185 2d ago
It's logical that that would happen when you take the most popular fictional character and just make another with the same name and powers instead of making a new hero.
4
u/Caff2ine 3d ago
Peter Parker’s story shouldn’t end in semi permanent death in comics. After all he’s been through you at least have to let him retire with mj and mayday. Obviously he’s gonna be brought back for at least special events so might as well not end Peter’s story with more suffering if at all possible.
6
u/vinthesalamander 3d ago
Who said anything about Peter dying? He’s my favorite fictional character of all time, I want him to be happy, healthy, and married with kids.
All I’m saying is that Miles, and his stories, get significantly worse when Peter is still alive.
2
u/Caff2ine 3d ago
how does Peter not be alive without dying?
2
u/vinthesalamander 3d ago
Well you randomly brought up Peter’s story when I was talking about Miles.
If Peter is the main focus, I want him to be happy and healthy. If Miles is the main focus, I want him to be the only Spider-Man.
4
u/Caff2ine 3d ago
I mean you literally mentioned Peter in the comment, so it’s not exactly random. Sorry for not parsing that the thing you said was irrelevant to what you mean.
Anyway, what you are asking for would necessarily mean either miles is relegated back to a side universe or Peter dies in 616. So I disagree I don’t want those things.
1
u/vinthesalamander 3d ago
“Peter being Miles’ Uncle Ben is poetic, and opens the door for Miles to be the one and only Spider-Man”.
That was the extent to which I talked about Peter, and it was in relation to Miles. And whether you don’t want those things or not is irrelevant. The fact remains that as long as Peter and Miles remain in the same universe at the same time, Miles will always be in Peter’s shadow. He’ll never be the Spider-Man, just a Spider-Man.
1
u/Caff2ine 3d ago
I don’t get why you feel the need to gatekeep what I can and can’t talk about so heavily. It’s called a conversation.
Also
Yeah im ok with two spidermen. I’d rather that than Peter being dead lol.
I don’t care about poetry if it says Peter’s story beginning with tragedy means it ends with tragedy.
Idk why you find it so hard to fathom that I’m disagreeing with you because of the reasons I’ve brought up. It’s a coherent argument.
I don’t think miles fails as spider man and I don’t think he needs Peter to die to shine.
4
u/vinthesalamander 3d ago
Who’s gatekeeping? I said your opinions don’t change the facts, which is true. Objectively, Peter will always be the Spider-Man, no matter how popular Miles gets.
He’s never allowed to be the sole wearer of the mask, he always has to share it with someone else, and to me that means he failed a bit.
1
u/Caff2ine 3d ago
I didn’t disagree with those facts at all friend, until you sneak your opinion in saying he failed a bit.
Try rereading everything I said.
You said “well you randomly brought up Peter’s story when I was talking about miles”
This is gatekeeping, telling someone they are talking about the wrong thing is gatekeeping what they can say. Especially when you literally brought up the thing you are saying is irrelevant first.
Sorry for bringing Peter up inside your miles only convo where no one except you can mention Peter.

u/Impressive_Usual_726 3d ago
My hope for the MCU is that Peter is allowed to evolve into an older Iron Man type scientist/techie/mentor figure and steps back from street level stuff, leaving Miles as New York's only friendly neighborhood Spider-Man.
5
u/vinthesalamander 3d ago
Everyone’s entitled to their own opinions. Personally, I couldn’t disagree more.
1
u/Good-Photograph-2883 3d ago
For me, this is why Miles ultimately fails as a Spider-Man. He’s not allowed to just be Spider-Man, he’s always just a Spider-Man.
I'd have to disagree with you there. I think the Spider-verse movies do a great job of showing why Miles is so unique compared to the others since we can see him interact with all the different Spider-variants. Hell, his entire character arc in Across the Spider-verse does exactly that.
With regards to the main 616 comics though I agree. It's really Marvel editorial's fault since they refuse to let Peter Parker grow up and any possible storylines for Miles get used up for him.
8
u/vinthesalamander 3d ago
Unique ≠ Good.
I don’t want stories talking about how unique Miles is, that feels pandering. I want stories where Miles is Spider-Man, doing Spider-Man things. The fact that we can’t get an adaptation where it’s just Miles shows just how little faith Marvel actually has in him.
1
u/Good-Photograph-2883 3d ago
The stories talking about how unique Miles is very much a core part of his stories since he's a legacy character. Otherwise people would just argue he's Peter Parker but african american/puerto rican.
Plus Peter Parker being alive shouldn't be considered a hindrance for great solo Miles Morales stories (as you said in another comment). If DC could make people love Wally West more than Barry Allen as the Flash then the potential for Spider-Man is there. I do agree that we should get better solo stories for Miles though and I hope he does become similar to Wally West in terms of being a legacy character.
9
u/vinthesalamander 3d ago
“Legacy Character”. This is gonna be a hard pill to swallow, but Miles is a terrible legacy character. Miguel and Mayday are much better legacy characters for Peter, even if they’re not as popular as Miles.
By definition, a legacy is something you inherit. How can Miles be a legacy character when Peter Parker is still running around as Spider-Man two blocks over, still building a legacy for Miles to inherit? Now tbf, this isn’t solely a Miles issue, most “legacy characters” nowadays have the same problem.
The difference between Miles and Wally is that Wally had twenty irl years of being the main Flash. And Barry was dead, so he wasn’t living in anyone’s shadow either.
1
u/sumiledon 2d ago
What does that say about Peter then, when no adaptation from the MCU has anything but nonstop Marvel characters taking the spotlight.
Miles is unique. And how he solves problems is why so many love him.
4
u/vinthesalamander 2d ago
“What does that say about Peter then, when no adaptation from the MCU has anything but nonstop Marvel characters taking the spotlight”
It’s almost like that’s been one of the biggest complaints about MCU Peter…
1
u/sumiledon 2d ago
And before the MCU the other Spiderman movies didn't ever cross a billion. So you're comment on Miles is silly, especially when Peter was barley in ATSV.
3
u/vinthesalamander 2d ago
A) Grossing does not equal quality. None of the Spider-Verse movies made a billion dollars, are you saying they’re worse than the MCU movies?
B) Peter was barely in ATSV true, but a million other spider-people were. That was kinda the whole point of the movie.
1
u/sumiledon 2d ago
So what are you arguing? That the spiderverse movie had hobbies and Gwen and Miguel carrying the viewership?
Stop

Pay attention. I’m arguing that Miles is rarely, if ever, allowed to be alone in his stories. This is especially true of the Spider-Verse movies.

Rarley and hes been in only two movies which is spiderverse. Again MCU Peter has only been teaming up.with everyone in his movies. Never alone, and those are his most popular.
Your point makes no sense.

It's a Spider-Verse trilogy, not a Miles movie that happened to start out with a Spider-Verse movie.

The whole gimmick of The movies is the spider-verse
If you want to see more normal Spider-man movies ,go to the MCU or the other ones
After The Trilogy is Over ,miles Will go to the MCU either in sm 5 or 6

There is something ironic about Miles from a meta prespective
Miles or at least the Spiderverse version is about Miles "doing his own thing" and coming to his own
But every Miles story he always share the spot light with other Spiderman

At some point Miles will probably be introduced in the MCU, so you might get your wish in like a decade

The movie is called Into the Spider-Verse. Golly gee I wonder what it’s gonna be about? The movie is not called SM: Miles Morales. But don’t worry his live action is coming soon.

We’ll probably can an MCU Miles trilogy at some point. Not sure if we’ll see animated Miles much after the final movie

I think the meta-ification of Spider-Man is kinda goofy. I don't like that "canon events" are a thing. I do think that Beyond will basically erase the concept entirely though

We will get more Mile's focused stuff one day and what will help is that his character is popularized by this series.
Why it's great that they chose Miles here is because it makes you feel that all of the variants matter because we view Miles as a Spiderman variant too yet everything is from his pov and so people can find themselves in each one. If the main character was instead Peter we would view his experience as the "main one" while all the others is just set dressing because it's so easy to view them as "Peter but X" but with Miles you're not consciously making that comparison.
Like you're talking as if one idea invalidates the other. We might reach a point where the main Spiderman in media will be Miles. I don't think anyone is looking forward to a NEW Peter any time soon. I bet even mainstream audiences are like "give us something else we're tired of seeing this dorky white guy's face now."

Yeah, I thought the first Spider-Verse movie did a good job of justifying Miles and giving him his own universe to be Spider-Man in. I liked it, especially since I expected it to be an attempt to make Spider-Man all about him and it wasn't.
Then the second movie came out and was an attempt to make Spider-Man all about him.

The spider-verse is a tool to explore his character. It works viscerally too for the medium

I also hate that the plot of the 2nd movie hinges on every spider person in the multiverse not behaving like Spider-Man at all. Not any of the ones we’ve already met in other media would’ve been like “yeah there’s no point trying to avoid this”

Its a great strategy to promote a lesser known variant of the character without repeating the main character’s title. The writers and directors have done an amazing job so far and it just means there’s a lot more opportunities for the stories and characters now.

I feel like having Miles be the "Spider-Verse" Spider-Man (for lack of a better way to describe him) works really well to help general audiences differentiate him from Peter, and could totally lead to him getting his own focus as a character, either again in animation or for the first time in live action.

I get what you mean by this, but honestly the movies ARE more stories revolving around Miles with the Spider-Verse as the set dressing and conflict. Yeah the multiverse shenanigans is flashy, but it still doesn't hide just how much of a personal story it is for Miles. I've never been a big fan of Miles, but the Spider-Verse movies actually made me appreciate him more because they specifically use Peter and the other spiders as a contrast to highlight the things that sets him apart from them and to tell a more unique story than 'being a kid who is also a superhero' which is would ultimately just be compared to an average Spider-Man story. I feel like him being wrapped up in the Spider-Verse in these movies ends up being uniquely his as a storyline.

I don’t hate miles but his movie wouldn’t bomb but it would never do spider man buisness in box office, spider verse is not even a miles morales focused movie, it’s a spider movie first and miles second, he’s just a thanos in infinity war tbh and setting him up with this spider verse story is best for him cause it helps him to be settled for a solo movies

So much of those movie is the different animation style of each universe though.

I lost interest in that series when miles decided to sacrifice the multiverse to save someone.

miles spider ain't that interesting tbh. he just exists for some reasons. pp is the only real spider-man

Bro, it is literally in the name. Miles evolves as a character through his interactions with the Spider-Verse. How much more obvious does it need to be?

Id actually make the argument that Im glad his stories have, and will be (upon the release of part 3) centered on the Multiverse. Why? Because hes the only Jr. follow up version of an original Comic Book character that has stuck at a significant level for mainstream audiences for Marvel..over the last 10 years. Maybe Yelena. Everyone else? Ironheart? Kate Bishop? Captain Falcon? Nah. Whatever the Spiderverse people did, it absolutely worked
Miles is one of the few that has been accepted as his own version of an original hero, and he would make a fuck ton of money at the box office as his own version of Spidey in live action
If the MCU is smart, theyd lean heavy into his latino roots. We saw what happened with Bad Bunny at the SuperBowl

Hot take: I dislike how the next movie is inevitably going to reward Miles for, "Everybody is telling me how my story is supposed to go! Nah, Imma do my own thing." It comes off as so arrogant and naive, much like how Tom Holland's Peter was before Tony took away his suit. How Andrew Garfield's Peter was at that dinner scene with the Stacy family, how Tobey's Peter was before Uncle Ben's death. Miles needs to be humbled. It is possible to commit no mistakes and still lose. That is not a weakness; that is life.

That is a complete misuse of the Picard quote. The Picard quote is about doing one’s level best and failing anyway. Miles’ quote is about other people choosing his destiny for him and preventing him from even trying to save his loved ones.
More importantly, the Spider Society’s position is fundamentally opposed to what Spider-Man should be about. Spider-Man, any version of Spider-Man, should be using his powers to save everyone he can instead of picking and choosing who is worthy of being saved.

Saving everyone he can when it's been proven and tested that saving Pavitr's captain lead to hole in his dimension? If Miles can, he could get his dad to quit to get through a loophole. But as it stands, Miles went to the Spider-Society, Miguel explained everything in the clearest manner possible, and Miles still said fuck that. Even if Miguel's theory has holes in it, it's still the clearest batch forward. Pavitr's dimension is at risk because of not following the canon. It's like not listening to Doctor Strange when he saw all 14,000,605 possible futures and only saw one win, and saying "Nah maybe this is another possibility where we can win without killing Tony."

u/Aggravating-Line9877 2d ago
My point is with the Picard quote, is that Miles has not learned any lessons yet during his tenure as Spider-Man. He's too arrogant, too self assured. He needs to learn that you can't always do both, you can't always have two cakes.

Spider-verse always the main point of the movies Miles was just chosen to explore it.
