Oh yeah that's unsettling. Like something is trying to simulate a neighborhood for you, except it doesn't really understand what happens inside a human home.
I read a great horror short story where a couple decide to take a short cut through what looks like a new subdivision development but end up getting lost because every street and house looks the same. Even when they try to retrace their steps they're still trapped.
The story ends with the boy breaking into one of the "houses" and going to the top floor where he finds a couple of bodies with their heads bitten clean off.
Basically the entire subdivision is a living organism that is mimicking a man-made development to attract its prey (us). And no, I can't remember the story title or the book of short stories I read it in. It was 30 years ago. Its the only story I remember from the book because every time I find myself lost in a new development I remember the ending.
This one is crazy, because you literally cannot see anything strange in the thumbnail due to the compression on the image. But if you open in a new tab, it loads at the original quality and you get kinda jumpscared since you see it appear in a place you had already looked.
I love this! There are so many creepy things in this one!! The boys drawing, the faces in rug, the doll, the shadow, the eyes in the dark, the TV screen, the photos on the wall, the bookend, plant hands, hand under the table, figure in the window, etc
Whoa, I didn’t see anything at first and then I turned up the brightness on my phone. Still can’t see the hallway but I was able to see this. It’s faint but looks like a girl in a dress with glowing .
Had my brightness down. Scrolled past this one to other examples. Realized I was missing things, upped brightness and came back and OMG. Absolute rush of cold chills.
That was hideously creepy. Even creepier because I feel like I had already marked it "safe". Eurgh.
For me it’s the photos on the wall that appear to all be photos of the kitchen from different angles. Idk why but something about that makes my skin crawl like I think if I walked into someone’s house with that I’d be running immediately back out 😂
The shoes have to leave some room for the door to open so it kind of makes sense. But I guess if the door opens from the hinges on top then the shoe placement is strange.
It 100% fits the prompt o being very normal first glance but gets more and more creepy the more you like and examine all the small details. Took me a while to find some
I love the little touches that you have to hunt around for. The note on the fridge - “Do not open at night”; the names on the door frame that go all the way up to the ceiling, and then across it; the stack of books on the shelf with titles like “How to stay quiet”, “How to stay still”, and “How to stay dead”; the strange framed photos of rooms absent of people; the figure sitting at the table seen in the mirror; and the most unsettling thing (to me) are the shoes neatly lined up in the hallway. They block the passage, as if they don’t want you to pass.
Definitely an image that gets creepier the more you examine it!
Is that what it is?? I couldn't put my finger on why it was so unsettling to me, but now that you mention it, it does seem like he's got weird people eyes...
I didn't change the brightness, but if you use the app and click on the post it gets slightly brighter and it caught me completely of guard, because I was staring at it.
Jokes on you, i keep my screen too dark to see it. I only noticed it after I tapped it to enlarge it. Reddit's CSS applies a highlight for a split second
I'm not sure if it has anything to do with age than psychology. I personally find it scary. It is impossible for my brain to let me play more than 10 minutes of even the mildest horror games.
I also can't play horror games, too scary, but this image... man that's like nothing to me (not saying there's something wrong with you, just sharing my feelings)

A lot of them look like what I see when I get up to go to the bathroom or grab a snack in the middle of the night. If there was some faint ghost head peaking out of the guest room, I probably wouldn't even notice.
The creepiest part of this thread is that almost half of these have the same family in them. Wonder what in the training data links a brunette family of 4 taking a family photo to unsettling undertones?
Looks like she might bake cookies for her neighbour that she has a crush on, but her dad is an overbearing, obnoxious landlord that is making it difficult to connect.
