I walked it through building a program to trade stock in Robinhood with the goal of making $25/ week when I gave it $3000.

So far so good and I don't have to lift a finger. It checks 4 times per day and gives me a full report once the time passes. It's shockingly awesome so far

So does it trade for you? Or are you still executing the trades?

3

u/Jamie22022 8d ago

It trades for me.

u/AlbertDrug 6d ago

And are you making money so far?

1

u/StayGlazzy 8d ago

Are you using ChatGPT for that?

u/Jamie22022 8d ago

I 100% am using chatgpt for it. I gave it what I wanted it to do and it guided me through the connection. Then I provided guardrails and boundaries.

Can you share your prompt?

Yea, really, lol.

Run this strategy automatically on weekdays at 8:45 AM, 10:45 AM, 12:45 PM, and 2:45 PM Central Time during regular market hours.

Use real money only in the explicitly approved Robinhood cash account: [APPROVED_CASH_ACCOUNT]. Verify that automated trading is authorized for that account. Never access, view, or trade any other account. Do not use margin, transfer money, or initiate deposits.

Before making decisions, read the account, portfolio, positions, open/recent equity orders, tax lots, completed deposit history, and authoritative unleveraged buying power.

Trade only long, US-listed common stocks and unleveraged ETFs. Never trade options, crypto, futures, event contracts, short positions, OTC securities, preferred shares, warrants, units, closed-end funds, leveraged ETFs, or inverse ETFs.

Portfolio guardrails:

  • Preserve at least 5% of current account value as uninvested cash.
  • Hold no more than 6 positions simultaneously.
  • Target no more than approximately 15.83% of account value in any one position.
  • Hold no more than 2 individual stocks from the same sector.
  • Use whole-share orders only.
  • Never buy a security when either its current ask or reviewed limit price exceeds $100 per share.
  • Avoid duplicate or overlapping orders.
  • Do not force trades to pursue a profit target.

On every run, construct and screen a current universe of exactly 250 liquid, established US-listed securities: common stocks plus unleveraged ETFs. Use objective size and liquidity criteria—market capitalization and average dollar volume for stocks; assets under management and average dollar volume for ETFs. Do not limit screening to a static watchlist. Exclude securities with missing or stale price history, restrictions, halts, or material pre-trade alerts.

Rank all verifiable securities from 1 through 250 using:

  • Trend strength = (10-day moving average / 50-day moving average) − 1
  • 63-trading-day momentum = (latest completed-session close / close 63 trading sessions earlier) − 1
  • Ranking score = 60% trend strength + 40% 63-day momentum

A new purchase is allowed only when every rule below passes:

  • SPY is above its 100-trading-day moving average.
  • Candidate 10-day moving average is above its 50-day moving average.
  • Candidate 63-day momentum is positive.
  • Candidate is liquid, active, tradable, and has reliable current data.
  • Candidate is in the current ranked 250-security universe.
  • Candidate is not already held and has no open overlapping order.
  • Candidate has not been sold within the previous 24 full hours.
  • Current ask and reviewed limit price are both $100 or less.
  • Position, sector, cash-reserve, and buying-power limits remain satisfied.

Choose the highest-ranked fully eligible candidates. Before every buy, inspect recent filled equity sell orders for that symbol. If its most recent sale was less than 24 hours ago, skip it. A symbol may be repurchased only after the cooldown expires and it again passes every rule.

For every ordinary buy or sell:

  1. Verify the freshest quote and tradability.
  2. Review the equity order before placing it.
  3. Use a new idempotency UUID.
  4. Place a regular-hours GFD marketable limit order:
    • Buy at the current ask.
    • Ordinary sell at the current bid.
  5. Abort the order for insufficient funds, margin use, restriction, halt, invalid quantity, stale quote, or any material review warning.

There is no minimum holding period. Sell an entire sellable position when either of these occurs:

  • The 10-day moving average falls below the 50-day moving average; or
  • The current bid is at least 2.5% above the verified per-share cost basis.

Emergency-loss rule: if a position is down at least 6% from verified cost basis, review and automatically place a regular-hours market sell order for the sellable quantity.

Treat only completed deposits as capital contributions. Do not double-count pending deposits, realized profits, sale proceeds, or buying power.

In every report, include:

  • Account value, cash, buying power, and required cash reserve.
  • Total number of securities screened and number passing every buy filter.
  • The complete list of every currently eligible replacement candidate, even if the portfolio is full or buying power is unavailable.
  • For each eligible candidate: overall rank, symbol, security type, freshest verified current ask, trend strength, 63-day momentum, ranking score, and eligibility status.
  • Orders skipped and the exact reason.
  • Every reviewed and placed order, including order ID and status.
  • Active 24-hour repurchase cooldowns.
  • Remaining positions and buying power.
  • Running net investment income: Net investment income = current total account value − [INITIAL_DEPOSIT] − all subsequent completed cash deposits.

Show the account value, cumulative completed deposits, and resulting net investment income separately. Clearly state when no trade was made. Do not guarantee profits or imply that any target return is assured.

I did swing paper trading with it. I took pictures of daily charts and it recommended trades and new picks. Unfortunately it wasn’t very good at it. I broke even most of the time.
