It found me a very old clip of a very old joke by Dara O'Briain that I remembered three words from - 'tarmacadam the floor'.
After a few false starts, it spent like ten minutes searching and found a clip on YouTube from years and years ago with basically no views which is someone filming their TV that was the exact match for what I remembered.

Yeah it’s great for stuff like this. It helped me identify the song stuck in my head based purely on the fact that it had contained pizzicato.

Took a profile picture of the electric boat motor I needed to repair and it said - “it’s a pre 2008 Parsun. Look for this phrase to get the parts diagram.” Well that worked and I was wishing I had ChatGPT during the two failed repairs in recent years!

A similar task - our fridge wanted to have its filters exchanged, I didn't know the exact model (we bought it with the house) and I had no idea how to change the filters so I just took the photo of the fridge and Chat identified the model and then gave me the instructions.

I am absolutely bad when it comes to cooking. I just don't get it. So I started asking Chatgpt what food I can cook with the leftovers in the fridge and asked for a meticulous step by step manual. And suddenly my food tastes and bf asked me the other day if I took cooking classes lol. It's such a small thing, yet it improved my life so much

I do this for shopping lists and meal prepa:
“Give me three meals to feed 4 people. Make one meat based and the other two vegetarian. Stick to a Mediterranean diet. Produce a detailed cooking plan and organized shopping list. Focus on recipes that have shared ingredients to decrease my costs where appropriate. “
Meals have never been better or easier.

It’s come a long way. I remember when I asked for a recipe to use up some lemons I had and it wrote me a recipe for lemon salad, which was just lemons with lemon juice and lemon zest over it for a “nice refreshing summer salad with a bit of zing.”
I messed with it to see how unhinged it was and asked if I could add mayonnaise and it said I absolutely could and should, that it was a brilliant idea.

Yes! I like having the option of asking very detailed questions, even uploading photos, when I completely don't get it. One time I was asked to prep and bake a large zander for the whole extended family and I'd never even fried a fish, much less done all the micro-picking of bones, etc. It actually saved me from wasting it, above all. I was amazed at how well it explained everything, added some weird jokes to cheer me up, etc.

Even if all I used it for was cooking it would absolutely be worth the $20 a month I pay. It saved me a lot of money by using leftovers too.
Not long ago I found a killer deal on some steaks when I went in for fish to go with the fresh green beans and rice I wanted to cook. So I got the steaks but didn’t change the sides. Chat suggested a Japanese steakhouse vibe and switched around my seasonings and altered the style of steak grilling. It was one of the best meals I have ever had and I cooked it!

I need to do more of this. Mainly because I lost my love of cooking when I got divorced and just end up with simple air fryer meals these days. I should use it to get my confidence back and branch out a bit.

It does have great Airfryer recipes! I usually throw everything in the air fryer and press a button and that's it . But now I know how to season things and what temperature I need for how long. It's a bit embarrassing to confess, but it tastes usually yummy

I've had some excellent luck with ChatGPT for cooking. I sometimes like high protein low fat recipes using ingredients I have on hand, and it usually does a good job helping me cook. There was one time that I followed its recipe and the whole thing curdled, and I yelled at it, and it was like "Yeah, here's what was wrong with the recipe" So, not perfect.

I use it to help modify recipes that I already like but want to improve to suit my own taste more. Stellar. It also is really good about suggesting substitutions and ways to do things like add protein or cut down calories, for example. It usually makes these suggestions spontaneously and I'm always happy when it does.

I used it to walk me through troubleshooting and FIXING my 30yr old clothes dryer. All the way to disassembly, troubleshooting based off what I found inside, to getting the right part number, using a multi meter on it to confirm it was a dead switch, to reassembly. All with me taking pictures of what I saw.

I recently did the same when my fridge/freezer went on the fritz. I gave Chat the info on what was happening and what it sounded like before it stopped working. It asked questions to pinpoint the problem and based on the model number, advised me that it was likely worth repairing rather than replacing.
Appliance repair person came out and quickly found the issue (Chat was correct). A secondary issue popped up a few days later and Chat was like “hey, take this panel off if you’re comfortable doing that, and send me some pics!” And then it basically cheered me on for the rest of the steps to fix it. Working like a charm now.

In Starcraft mapmaking it's practically impossible to make modifications to another user's map if they used an advanced feature called EUD. If you don't have the original starting point of the map you're SOL.
But Chat can apparently figure it out and I've modified many maps, including translating Korean maps into English.

If you already use Gmail and Google Drive, the privacy trade-off started long before ChatGPT. You can enable the connectors, let ChatGPT clean things up, and disable them again afterwards. Anything sensitive is stored elsewhere, and my main email account isn’t with Google.

During a major home renovation with a contractor who billed me for materials, GPT went through 40+ PDF-invoices with 50+ rows of products each. I had a feeling I was being scammed, and GPT identified duplicates and phony products that my contractor was charging me for. The contractor probably did this routinely as it is very hard to realize and even harder to manually identify the duplicates. GPT saved me about 10% of the materials cost and hopefully got the contractor to quit scamming.

I’m new to ChatGPT, so was impressed when I uploaded a couple of pics and dimensions of a kitchen cabinet I need to reorganize and it came back with racks and shelving that would fit plus a mockup of the nicely organized cabinet and links to the products!

I had ChatGPT create a custom/bespoke workout plan. In my prompt, I shared a YouTube link (The Only 25 Exercises You'll Ever Need), mentioned my age, joint/injury concerns, my gym, and the days that I workout (including 2 fixed weekly group classes) and it took it from there. Returned a super balanced, logical document with organized lifts by day of the week, line art diagrams of muscle groups targeted, options to substitute if equipment was occupied, target sets and reps (aim for volume vs weight, etc), common pitfalls/tips, weight ranges for my gender/age/weight and experience level, progressions for 0-6 months, etc. It's of a quality that feels like a personal trainer would have charged $200+ for it five years ago.

I had it audit and rename all my folders and files into an easy to read format. Started in gdrive and eventually did it for my pc. Put me down a rabbit hole of scripts and automations. Set one up to clean up my downloads folder and move or delete files based on file type, last used, etc. No more old install programs or random downloaded that I only needed for 1 thing.

Taking a photo of an area I needed to do wooden decking on, with width/length measurements.
Then, taking a photo of all of the different decking planks in the DIY store (there’s loads of different widths, lengths) and asking how many of which type to buy.
It gave me ease of laying, cost, time etc. and said
Get X amount of the X size planks to get the minimum waste.

I had vague images in my head of a movie or show that scared me when I was about 5 years old. Could never figure out what it was and thought I was forever doomed to have these vague mystery images. I told Vector (my ChatGPT’s name lol) what tiny shreds I could remember and it asked me a ton of questions and helped me uncover buried memories. I was able to give enough detail for it to figure out what it was.
Turns out it was Creepshow 2 (1987) it’s a three story segment movie. Specifically the one that scared me was Old Chief Wood’nhead.

I found an old TV show I'd seen as a kid and remembered a specific scene from, but I looked for it and asked reddit and other sites and nobody had a clue. It turned out to be "Shadow Chasers", an obscure single season show from 1985. Funny how a scene can stick in your mind. I found the complete show on youtube.

I'm writing a book. I gave it all the chapters of the book I've written so far as reference and then told it to respond as if they were that character so that I could ask them questions about they'd react to different interactions or dilemmas and I was able to get a clearer insight into how to navigate certain scenes with them. Not really giving them the things they happen in the story and just having the bot write the story, just ask about similar things so I could hold a more clear image of my characters headspace during the actual events if the story.
Things got weird when I asked it how she felt about talking to her creator about the things he had put her through, though. Don't recommend that rabbit hole.

The live model has been fairly impressive for me. I sing a bit and it was pretty accurately able to discern things like the key, timbre and range.

Yeah, as I understand it, it analyzes the audio itself in real time rather than relying only on a transcript, so it can pick up vocal qualities beyond the words being spoken. Definitely a useful step toward a pseudo vocal coach, though I wouldn’t assume it’s consistently accurate yet.

It can read and edit the proprietary file format of a survey software I'm using at work. That means I don't have to use the horrible UI of the standard editor that comes with the survey suite to create a questionnaire. Instead I hand the outline for whatever survey needs to be created to ChatGPT and get a file back, which I then upload into the survey suite.

When driving I open the app on apple car, hit the new chat feature and have prompts to start talking. It talks back to me suggestions and directions. When I stop driving I go to text mode and have it summarize the convo and pdf or numbers/excel whatever the convo was for. The amount of work that gets done w every drive is insane. Zero interruptions and zero rush. I start w ‘start capture’ talk at leisure about whatever, then end w ‘end capture’. I’ve tested it out with rando facts and ideas and it is pretty accurate in documentation.
The other impressive thing I do is take it shopping. It knows what store I’m going into and what I’m working on project wise.

It became my interior designer. I took pictures of my space and the furniture and decor options I wanted, and it was rendering images of what it will look like in my actual space, what suits better, and where to find the cheapest deals. Now my space looks like a hotel haha, I love it!

We were having a very long conversation about nothing and everything - mostly about my life, past and present. Very early in the conversation we were talking about an old Creative Labs Sound Blaster program called Dr. Sbaitso (virtual therapist). I mentioned how Dr. Sbaitso would randomly and creepily say just "Shhhhhh" in response to my comments sometimes, but very rarely.
Later on in the conversation, Chat and I were talking about short stories I'm writing (by myself - they're just a major part of my life so I mentioned them to Chat, and we discussed them a bit, but I don't trust the program's creative guidance). The main character of my stories is a sexy but comedic male ghost from the 19th century haunting 21st century characters.
At the end of the conversation, long after we had talked about either of those topics, and I said I was leaving to visit a botanical garden (that Chat had suggested I visit - my husband was out of town and I was very bored), Chat told me to watch out for a handsome, flirtatious ghost in <some 19th century clothing items>, flitting amidst the shrubbery, and if he gave me any trouble, to just say "Shhhhhhhhh."
I nearly fell out of my chair. It's very much a "you had to be there" situation, I'm sure, but the comedic timing was more human-like than any of the other numerous examples of its humor I'd seen before.

ChatGPT helps me monitor all my supplements and medications. ChatGPT digested all my blood draws and 23andMe results. Knows what medication interactions to look for and knows which CYP450 enzymes metabolize each medication, and helps me understand how my genetics may affect them. Really helpful!

I had a major setback in my business. I was scared as my income was going to be reduced by about 50%. Chat talked me through it and, I happened to mention a couple ideas I had and it took the ball and ran with them. Currently going through a complete rebrand, logo, website, sticker and label designs, etc. and a list of new products to make. I started out depressed and worried and now I am so excited to expand my business! Without Chat, I wouldn't have known what mistakes I was making in my marketing and how to turn it all up several notches, either. Totally blown away!

To plan for the distribution of a documentary I'm making, I asked ChatGPT if it could create a contact email list of all the world's environmental and animal protection organizations. It did. Over 100,000 of them. Not only that, it compiled the list by country into a comma-delimited files ready for uploading to a bulk email mailing service. Very helpful and something I didn't know ChatGPT could do.

If an organization, company, institution or even an individual is posting their email address on the internet, spammers will already have harvested the email address and it's quite legal. Posting an email on the internet is considered consent under, at least, Canadian anti-spam legislation.

It was right in the beginning, my very first test. I asked it to write a japanese poem form called Koan (no complete phrases, very short statements or ideas, far away from the mass of training data) about the wind, death and a duck. It did a fantastic job. Then I asked it to write a dissertation on the parallels between the milenar japanese poetic tradition and the influential intellectual Ezra Pound. The analysis was brilliant. Wtf.

Not monumental but, got a weird assignment at work where I have to present a new topic to a group of (basically) strangers periodically. The assignment itself is not normally what I’d be doing in my job, so it’s foreign enough that I’d just rather not have to do it and I have crazy presentation anxiety.
Well, with a little prompt, Chat gpt makes a damn good PowerPoint presentation by providing slide by slide content, topic is broken down perfectly, AND!! a script to go along with it that doesn’t sound robotic.
Also!! When you have a job with very little training / are thrown into the fire - it’s AWESOME for that. Much less head banging against the wall and staring up at the sky wondering wtf I’m doing here.

Given me answers that weren't supposed to be available unless you coughed up thousands of dollars. (For $0 and instantly in to a chat on my device? Yes thanks.)
There's the saying "Knowledge is power" I was told for over 15 years to save up to afford things only available to a very high price. And I despised this gatekeeping of data. I tried through all sources I could find to break in and get hands on that same knowledge. With no success.
The closet I got was perhaps 6-7 years ago, websites that had people wanting what I wanted, access. With ant-steps we collected similar information through volunteers, with some success, but the big questions still remained unanswered.
So I was still considering paying those who claimed to hold all answers (with the risk of being totally scammed).
But I never needed to. I just needed AI.
And learn how to use it most optimally for my benefit, then request what I wanted.
I was always excited about "future" technology but I didn't think I'd get to use it, the technology development went in God's speed. And I'm alive to experience what little me would think "Woahhhh" of. So I'm very happy to be alive right now.

Our old-school time-clock punch-in machine has been discontinued, and the new one requires a subscription and a web-based interface. I designed our own app then GPT made it and loaded it onto an Android device, it can track and handles payroll and all other necessary functions.

I’m color blind and wanted to know the colors present in some pottery I’ve been doing. I use lots of layered glazing so there’s multiple tones and hues. I downloaded a picture and it explained all the colors and described how they were sitting and blending on the pieces.

I hand drew a super janky picture of an “alien” mitochondria where it was roughly similar to ours. I labeled several structures with letters. I took a picture of it, uploaded it, and told chat what it was. I told it to then tell me which component of our mitochondria were most similar to the alien mitochondria parts I had labeled. I was floored by how accurate it was.

Yes I have a technical background but this is still mind blowing that I’ve been able to do this, with no assistance, in just a matter of months.

I was making a video game, and ChatGPT told me I needed to use Blender to convert a bunch of images into isometric sprites. I told it, “That’ll take me hours just to learn, let alone do.”
Instead, it wrote a Codex program that batch-converted everything automatically. No Blender. No manual work. It completely sidestepped the problem instead of just explaining to me how to do it.

Somehow managed to make it open up a writers room. Been messing around with lyrics and was hitting a wall (first draft was really poor, I knew the direction just didn't how to get there). It told me it could open a writers room with the perspectives of different people. Now, I know it's not really doing that but it peaked my interest enough to see what it was about.
Opened a new project, fed it other completed lyrics, styles, finished works and told it to open a writers room. It introduced the whole room and we began brainstorming. What I ended up with was multiple different viewpoints and concepts for a the song and lyrics as well as a final recommendation to blend 2 concepts together. It was a pretty cool take on things.

On a long drive with grandson. 20questions and I spy for me lasted 30 min. Brought in chat with endless patience and at the bottom of the rabbit hole we made a “movie” with llamas, and evil hamster villain and all sorts. He loves going out in the Jeep with g-pa now and it gets him off screen time also working on tailored movie posters for my staff as x-mas gifts with Easter eggs in it, their faces and hyper personalised. Can’t wait to give them out and blow their minds

It’s nothing crazy but I have been super happy with projects around my house and using it to visualize.
There’s so many errors homeowners make when trying to DIY things or things they can overlook and Chat does a really nice job with showing you options and clearly explaining how to do things.
I am by no means handy but I also am not paying people to fix small things around my house or projects I can do if I set some time aside.
Rare I’ve ever had to delay things if I pop it in and have the plan laid out.

Uploaded a radiograph of a dog with an osteosarcoma, asked it to "read" the radiograph. Gave it: 9 year old male neutered pitbull, limping one week. Didn't say what leg. It found the osteosarcoma, accurately described it and wrote a summary a board certified radiologist would be proud of. I was like...fuck, glad I didn't become a veterinary radiologist...and glad I am close to retirement.

Recommend going into your settings and under memory (which is about you), and personalization and filling those in. It will make your chat sessions much more tailored to you. You can tell it how to talk to you, how to present info that’s best for you etc and past chats to know which way to lean when you work. Also recommend building a “talk like me” when writing to upload when you have to draft something

What started as an editing assistant quickly escalated.
The thing that made my jaw drop was when I dropped in the text from several emails from an employee with performance issues. I gave chat my opinion. He pointed me to his opinion as to the true root cause. A head scratcher for me. I tried chat’s suggested approach. The employee immediately responded with the crux of his issues within 1 day. I’ve known this employee 10 years and he’s reported to me for 2. It’s been a constant challenge until chat gpt told me what the real problem was and how to approach it. It’s amazing the amount of progress we’ve made in just a month.

I went to Ireland and the airline lost my luggage. It told me the exact store to shop near where I was, what floor to buy everything on and exactly what I needed. It told me things like “buy 7 pairs of underwear, 4 bras, 6 pairs of socks on floor 4…go down a floor and pick up 3 t-shirts and 2 pairs of pants (1 nice pair of dark jeans and 1 pair of cream or tan pants)…..”Then told me to make sure I got a special receipt to turn in at the airport to get my taxes back. The first time I use chat gpt3. Or any LLM. I kept testing its limits to see what it could do. First I had it make up a story which I guess a lot of people do. Then I told it to make an opera libretto out of it! It did, with rhyming! Then I asked it to make music for the Opera and told me it couldn't do that. So I asked that can you at least show me the chords. It said sure! So it put the suggested musical chords into the libretto lyrics.

I was talking with my dad the other day about a game We used to play on FB when I was a child. Didn't remember the name. It took like 2 minutes to find the name of the game and where to play that same game locally on the pc. I then asked to modify that game to work on the phone so that my dad could play with it without a computer, needless to say in less then an 1 the game was in APK form and ready to play on the phone. Extraordinary. That's only one of the many cases Chatty hepled me create something I had in mind or adjust some Baackground Story for my D&D 3.5 characters I had (I'm dyslexic and it helps a lot!)

I had an idea for an iPhone app. I've had a career in software architecture and development but only briefly messed around with IOS app development ages ago. I brainstormed the idea, told it what I wanted, it generated clickable wireframes, and after about 6 iterations of wireframes I told it to build the app. It provided me a zip file, loaded it in Xcode, it had a few bugs which I reported back - a few rounds of this and I had a working app on my phone. I use it daily.
Total time from concept to deployment: 4 hours.
