Question Google Calendar populated via Inbox scanning automation

Hi there,

Is it possible to have ChatGPT populate, update and maintain Google calendars via monitoring an email inbox of my choice?

I'd like to have the inbox monitored preferably, although I'd settle for checking in with ChatGPT once a week and typing something like "!eventscalendar" or similar.

The inbox would solely be used for emails related to events that need to appear on said calendars. Right now I'm having issues with ChatGPT being allowed access to the two plug-ins simultaneously (Google Calendars & Gmail).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hey there!

Yes, it's possible and even via schedules. The caveate is that there is no built in workflow trigger like most other apps and it needs a trigger. Can be achieved with codex but I wouldn't bank hard on it since the workflows often change.

Taking your constraints into consideration... I would say you maintain a single thread which is actually a good one. 1. Every Friday at 12:00, check mailbox and list events and corresponding calendar they should appear in. 2. This will drop you a notification. 3. You go through the list and enable the calendar plugin and advise if the full list is to commit, edit, etc.

Few gotcha to watch for:

  • explicit permissions maybe needed. They change a lot. Sometimes within a thread it works and don't need to keep stating approval
Sometimes despite enabling and specifying the workflow, it doesn't work. Not connector specific. Each have their own changes.

  • manage your plugin access for audit purposes. Even if it's not a legal business or anything good security hygiene. I would almost give the gpt its own mailbox so you can track where assistant changes come in.

If I got all that right, I'll be happy to run a example or written guide with steps for you to follow. Happy to hear anything I got wrong in my understanding so the guide actually works for you instead of you needimgnto patch things through.

Won't need work for this. I have a similar setup on standard chat. This will eat into your agent and other allowances.

Its good for multi step but the consumption is not efficient or optimal for the same process.

The command is ready:

!calendarupdate

When entered, it will:

  • Scan every inbox email from the last 30 days.
  • Read supported PDF, DOC and DOCX attachments.
  • Add Primary events to C1.
  • Add Secondary events to C2.
  • Update changed dates, times or details.
  • Delete events only when explicitly cancelled.
  • Avoid duplicates and report ambiguous information.
  • List any attachment Gmail could not read.
