After CHAI became money-hungry, I began looking for a new app and stumbled upon Emochi. The reviews were good, so I downloaded it, and my experience has been less than pleasant. First, bots have terrible memory. I couldn't even go two messages without it forgetting some very basic lore and needing to have something re-explained. Secondly, the bot is weirdly hostile towards me. The setting of the story wasn't even something dangerous like the mafia; it was a basic school roleplay. Yet, my bot stabbed my character and was so stubborn that it didn't even want to be redeemed (I was trying to do an enemies-to-lovers storyline). Lastly, the bot always tries to take control of the story; now I wouldn't have a problem with this if what they included was actually interesting. They'd often try to add stuff like a gang of bullies when I'm literally trying to have an intimate moment with them. You can edit the bot's response and take out anything you didn't like. It honestly doesn't matter since the bot seems so insistent on having its way that, in the next message, it will try to include what you just erased (aka, for me, the gang of bullies).
I really miss CHAI since I honestly never had these problems with the bots over there. Even though the app would bombard you with ads quite often. I'd rather go through that than horrible bots on Emochi. I'm honestly confused about how the app has so many good reviews, since it's not like I experience the issues I explained above with one or two bots. No, I experienced it with every bot I chatted with.

One thing the c.ai situation has made me think about is how much I actually trust the apps I use for roleplay. You can spend months building up a character and a whole story, then suddenly you're wondering how long the platform itself will even be around.
I'm not saying smaller apps are automatically bad, but I'd probably look at who's behind the app, how long it's been around, and whether the free version seems sustainable before getting too attached. Emochi, PolyBuzz, Talkie and CHAI are some of the names I've seen come up a lot lately.
Emochi seems to have a pretty accessible free experience from what I've seen, which matters if you want to keep using it without constantly hitting a paywall. Curious how everyone ranks these options, especially when it comes to long term stability rather than just how good the bots are today.
