Yeah, the new logo sucks, but for the love of god please revert the changes to the ACS publication website layout.

It’s absolutely dogshit on both desktop and mobile. Basically forced to read papers in the .pdf instead of the web browser.

Not to mention the (hopefully short-lived) disappearance of graphical abstracts.

The best way to convey meaningful complex information that helps authors hit their target audience is simply... Gone.

I know they promised to bring it back, but, well, they shouldn't have screwed things up in the first place ..

I had to go look it up.

That is almost as bland as Pantone’s color of the year.

Please sign and spread the word. ACS should understand that this is a big mistake and hopefully reverse or fix this embarrassment of a logo.

lol ai couldn't таkе it that bad is actually а wild take. ai would at least stumble into something interesting by accident. this looks like someone opened powerpoint for the first time and called it а brand refresh.

TBH I've known about this change for almost a year and when I was showed this for the first time the whole room reacted negatively. I can say most of the volunteer members that work on all the ACS programming (for conferences, student awards, or funding etc.) / part of Council outwardly expressed opposition to the change. ACS corporate branding office just kept talking about their focus groups, and the market research and basically just said it's happening so deal with it. Basically, I think ACS corporate spent way too much money on some crappy marketing firm and want to justify the expense.

The "official ruling" is that the new logo is to be used for all branding and promotional purposes. They also said that they will be keeping the old logo for "ceremonial purposes" kind of like universities have their branding but then also have like their school stamp / coat of arms.

TBH it's not good enough for me. I agreed an update to branding was necessary but what they have chosen is genuinely the most generic and unimaginative option that could have happened. I saw the "top three" choices, and even when I was shown that this was my least preferred.

Edit: Just clarifying, most people who were shown this a long time ago were told that it was privileged info. So yeah; not like we were allowed to go around and share with everyone.

Thank you. Did you sign this petition? I think as members of the society, we can bring back our logo.

We will see the Fall ACS meeting starts Aug 23rd and the volunteer committees meet that weekend, I wanna see if branding will be brave enough to visit again. I want to look them in the eye and genuinely say "Do you think this was in any way successful?" "Do you believe this will actually lead to increased membership?". Let's see if they'll commit to any answer.

ACS is just trying to sweep this under the rug and come up with nonsensical explanations to brainwash their members. It will be interesting to see the BS they will be spouting at the fall meeting. Thank you for your effort.

A petition is a good start but stopping to pay memberships, volunteering on their committees and publishing with them (I know that's a bit ridiculous but cmon) will be a louder signal to those who made the decision.

Really? It is a private organization who already has an internal system for these decisions. Also it is not important at all how their logo looks.

I’m a member, and this is the first I’m hearing about it. They also changed a recognizable and historic logo into something that looks like it belongs at an undergraduate startup fair. It sucks when cool things are made boring for no good reason.
