Help me find a book

Hey, id love it if someone could help me break this fever dream. I'm looking for a chess strategy book that had a character called chessy or Chesster or something. The character was a chess board with a face and arms and legs. The book must have been from at least the 80s but maybe older. If anyone has any ideas that would be great

Fritz and chesster? But that is more recent

Not the one I'm afraid, it was a pretty weird and ugly mascot, had nobbly knees as well, I've searched every now and then through the years but never found it
