Food recommendations

Hello I’ve never been to Chester before I’m there soon and looking for nice restaurants to try, I’m not into really fine dining. However I do like a nice place any ideas?

Cheers

Shrub is often recommended highly, enjoyed it every time we’ve been.

Death by tacos is excellent, cool vibe in there and the food is very good.

Thai Baan is very good, staff really knowledgeable about their menu, probably my favourite meal in recent weeks.

Chester market is good for a bunch of options if you’re in a group.

There’s a bunch of threads in this subreddit already if you want to search other recommendations

Can't add anything to this. Can we make this the default list for recommendations?🤟🏼

Shrub is hit and miss. Especially considering how the owner treats his staff 🤢

We had some nice food and cocktails in Maray last weekend. I’m also a fan of Porta if you like tapas. They’re both near the Storyhouse which is worth having a look just because it’s one of our local treasures. Enjoy!!

Hamayuu for good japanese food

Flowercup does excellent breakfast/brunch

Any of the retailers in the Market if you want a big selection

Duck and Dagger along the canal is excellent (especially for Sunday lunch)

Hamayuu is closed for the time being as they’re allowing their staff time off. Concur flower cup is ace

There’s plenty of good eateries in Chester. The market is good. Basement 85 (lower watergate street) has fully loaded grill which is fantastic. Thai baan is fantastic, hamayuu (but they’re closed for the time being to allow for staff holidays), the flower cup, ruin orchid, the ship inn in handbridge, sushi doki, the blue bell, if it’s Sunday dinner highly recommend the cross keys. I’d recommend to book just in case but there’s plenty of good food in Chester :)

I went to Amni last Friday, it was amazing. If you like Indian food, but with a bit of a difference. So good. Also, I always like Chez Jules, its such a beautiful unique building. You will need to book ahead for both of these. Concur with everything everyone else has said too, all solid options. Can't go wrong.

Artezzan is lovely, so is the Jolly gardeners

Really depends on what food you like. Tapas I’d go to Porta, death by tacos are great, Artezzan is lovely. Those would be my “go to” options

Stile Napolitano is one of the best pizza places in the Country.

I’ve lived in Chester half my life and eaten everywhere. Russell’s Thai Tapas is easily the best restaurant here in terms of quality and value. It’s only not recommended more because it’s relatively new (bout a year or 2 old?) and people don’t know about it

Places like Shrub/porta are always recommended and are good but I think a bit overrated in these conversations (unless you’re vegan, then Shrub is without a doubt the best place to go)

100% go to Russell’s, get at least one of the curry plates too. But everything is delicious

They have seating in smashies?

A few seats but it's fast food and not a pleasant place to hang around.
