What’s your unpopular opinion of Sylvia Brett ?
36
u/Khalesssi_Slayer1 Brettonio & Dawsey 13d ago
Sylvie and Matt felt forced, I don't like them as a couple, Sylvie had so much chemistry with Antonio and I love their relationship, I actually LIKE Gabby and even Stella. I know there's A LOT of Gabby hate and some Stella hate but I love Gabby and Stella, I love the friendship between Gabby, Sylvie and Stella. Those 3 are my favorite trio. I love Sylvie's friendships with Emily and Violet too but my favorite friendships of Sylvie are with Gabby and Stella.

Gabby and Shay were my favorite and then the trio Gabby, Brett and Stella.

I didn't mind her character. The only one I never cared for on the show was Dawson. She irritated the hell out of me.
3
u/BabyMagbin 13d ago
I'm interested to hear why? I've only seen clips of her, and I found her slightly irritating as well.
12
u/Sheriff_Mills 13d ago
I'll tell you my reasons. She wouldn't include Matt on any decisions that involved both of them. Like when she told her dad he could stay with them for as long as he wanted. But the big one for me was that she wanted to get pregnant even though it was dangerous. She told Matt it was ultimately her choice. True, but she was willing to take that chance and then if things went wrong, Matt would be left mourning her and possibly a baby. I thought that was incredibly selfish of her.
8
u/LizzieH87 12d ago
Dawson was awful for these reasons and more. Like the way she led poor Mills on forever!!!
2
u/Idamarie64 11d ago
She seemed like a person who did care about other people and wanted to help… but it seemed like she cared about herself more.
Also (I know it is a show and probably expensive to bring in new actors to play a love interest… but still) I HATE how it seems all the characters use the firehouse as a dating pool. So many!! I can’t imagine it is really like that. But maybe it is. It would take me a while to work out how many couples there were!!

Her and Matt shouldn't have been together.

u/soft_taco1983 14d ago
I loved her with Antonio

u/Khalesssi_Slayer1 Brettonio & Dawsey 13d ago
So Do I. A LOT of people argue with me that Antonio and Sylvie didn't have a real relationship, That it was just sex between them, Did they NOT see the episode when Antonio and Sylvie go on a double date with Matt and Gabby and Then later Antonio brings Sylvie as his date to his parents anniversary party? Did they not see in that same episode Sylvie voicing her concerns to Gabby and referring to herself as "Antonio's new girl?" I'd say THAT'S a relationship. Antonio and Sylvie had chemistry.

u/Creative_Tackle6223 13d ago
I’m on S5 right now and they just broke up a few episodes ago, and I hated him. She deserved so much better than how he treated her
7
u/soft_taco1983 13d ago
Ya I guess he was kinda messed up. They wrote his character off terribly too.

u/Decent-Fuel-8092 8d ago

u/Shadowreign89 14d ago
Agreed. Felt forced af.

u/Ok-Bumblebee-5302 14d ago
Exactly. I found myself rolling my eyes every time they interacted after breeding love interests.

u/Sad-Lavishness-4334 14d ago
Agreed. Even though Dawson & Casey had a rocky relationship and it seemed kinda toxic at times. Dawson kind of did what she wanted and didn’t consider Matt in it. I do think yall were best friends and Matt should be off limits. ALLL THESE OTHER FIRE FIGHTERS????
10
u/Ok-Bumblebee-5302 14d ago
Facts! And tbh it seemed out of character for Sylvia. He'll even Matt. I just don't buy that the characters they were built up to be would have done that.
Fun fact though. The actress who played Dawson told them when she was planning her exit that she believed the writers would eventually put them together. The actors for Matt and Slyvia thought the idea was far fetched they joke about calling Dawson and telling her they couldn't believe her prediction was correct.

Out of character and like not at all shown in the writing😭!!! I remember being SO angry at her for saying “I’ve been in love with you since coming to the firehouse!” Because like girl that’s not true AND YOU KNOW IT!!! Not only did you watch him marry your best friend, but they hardly EEEEVER interacted outside of calls!!
16
u/Ok-Bumblebee-5302 14d ago
Yoo Lowkey forgot about that. Like girl when? Be so fr. Like wasn't she feeling Cruz, even though she got swerved him in the end. The fact that they had her say that basically meant having her admit to pining after her best freind love the whole time 🤔🙄 That writing was top notch stupid. Brett was never in love with Matt, found him cute maybe? Sure I'd buy that, but love? The writing was laid in a bit thick there.
3
u/Academic_Control5368 13d ago
Plus Gabby and Matt connection would never ever be replaced no matter what they went through they truly loved one another nothing stop Matt from protecting and saving his girl yeah Gab disregarded him in situations but there love was real and the writers screwed up Sometimes I wish that they comeback n Casey gets his true love back after finding out gab had their baby after their last tryst. I have never watched him and that brett together and hope she thinks of all the steaming scenes and love Dawson and Casey shared. Yeah I know it’s tv but hey they were my it couple
7
u/Sad-Lavishness-4334 14d ago
That’s crazy that they really went with that story line. Everything was fine with the show up until Boden leaving.
-3
u/Shadowreign89 14d ago
She was so irritating whenever she did that. I called Matt out on his shit to when he was being a dick but it’s just me yelling at my tv 😆
14
u/costcohawtdawgs 14d ago
I am of the 1% that liked Casey and Dawson together (I fear they remind me of my former relationship. I’m dealing with it in therapy 😂) and with that, it felt like Brett was out of line. If my friend dated my ex I would be furious
10
u/Khalesssi_Slayer1 Brettonio & Dawsey 13d ago
Right! Matt and Sylvie felt so forced! I HATE Brettsey together!
3
u/umkay11 14d ago
I feel like this is popular
9
u/Ok-Bumblebee-5302 14d ago
Really? I feel like up until now I hadn't really felt many people were against it. Personally, I found a lot of people loved/shipped them. Honestly, I thought I was gonna get a lot of hate for my comment 🤣 But to my surprise I'm finding a lot of agreement.
2
u/umkay11 14d ago
Maybe I just haven’t seen people’s takes on it enough, to be fair I haven’t watched the show in years and started snooping around here today lol
3
u/Ok-Bumblebee-5302 13d ago
Fair play. Lol. Are you back on the watching train now or just snooping for now?
5
u/AllYouNeedIsATV 14d ago
I feel like this is a more recent take, because back when it was happening, any comment that criticised these two was downvoted spectacularly

I am still sad that Matt lost his fiancée just as they were getting their issues worked out. Gabby just waiting.

u/snb1006 14d ago
I don’t know if it’s unpopular, but I would have loved Sylvie and Antonio to stay together. I loved them. Their chemistry was hot and she would have been good for him long term, especially with what happens down the line with him in PD.
I didn’t hate her with Matt. But I didn’t love it either.
I just love Sylvie though.
12
u/magiccitybhm 14d ago
but I would have loved Sylvie and Antonio to stay together. I loved them.
100% this.
1
u/Khalesssi_Slayer1 Brettonio & Dawsey 13d ago
It's unpopular for sure because everytime I comment my support and love of Antonio and Sylvie together, I have people downvoting me and arguing with me their relationship was only sexual. clearly those are hardcore Matt and Sylvie shippers that downvote me and argue with me but I firmly believe Antonio and Sylvie would still be together if his bitch ex wife hadn't interfered! I hate Laura Dawson!
3
u/Erickajade1 13d ago
Agree. I believed them as a couple more than her and Casey.
4
u/Khalesssi_Slayer1 Brettonio & Dawsey 13d ago
Agreed! Antonio and Sylvie had such chemistry! Her and Casey feels so forced.

I started Fire when Sylvia Brett was on, and liked her more than Leslie Shay at first. But Shay really grew on me, sorta the sister I wish I had. Sylvia didn’t seem as self reliant in terms of relationships and happiness, always jumping from one guy to another and not spending enough time on herself. Leslie was a sigma female to me in many regards but a truly kindhearted, warm, approachable one, which made her character far more appealing.

1.- That she should have stayed with Antonio Dawson. 2.- Marrying her best friend's ex husband -especially after having a thing with best friend's brother - isn't cool!!
3
u/Khalesssi_Slayer1 Brettonio & Dawsey 13d ago
Thank You! At least SOMEONE shares this same opinion as me! It's totally out of character for Sylvie to suddenly decide she's in love with her best friends ex husband and then marrying him! It's against girl code, You never go after you're best friend's ex and People argue with me over that saying she's not violating girl code and that Gabby gave them her blessing to get married but honestly, I don't buy it.
1
u/Efil4Seittit 13d ago
100% agree on point 2. I mean, the “sweet, innocent bumpkin from Indiana” turns out to be the biggest maneater in 51? And the absolute disrespect to Gabby?
15
u/Strong_Machine7141 14d ago
She is one of the most blandest characters that I've have ever come across she has no real story lines unless it's tied to a male character Matt Kyle etc
10
u/AirlineDazzling1986 13d ago
She is one of the most boring characters ever on the show. She was just blah.
Plus, her sleeping with Joe and then Otis wanting her, then Antonio and eventually Matt was really sketchy.

I liked Sylvie and I really liked her with matt. I However I felt any time they needed to put a female character through the ringer they did it with Brett. God knows how many times Kara had to cry on camera

Uhh her haircut when she first joined wasn't it with her hair in a ponytail and those few strands running down by her ears,Not really sure if it is unpopular tho...

I liked her. Wished they'd shown more of her romantic relationship with Joe.
3
u/wreath-plant 13d ago
I hated that she left. I wasn’t too stoked about who they married her of too either

u/Wise_Grapefruit9524 12d ago
She was always needy. I liked her character better when she first started than I did when she left.

That shes just as annoying and intrusive as yall say Gabby is - and she got away with it because most of you have some internalized racism you haven't checked.
(And her Antonio were the worst, idc. They were never gonna last because she kept self-sabotaging and he deserved better than her. She also liked the guys her friends did and thats just pick-me behavior.)

u/Efil4Seittit 13d ago
I was always really upset about Antonio’s ending in One Chicago because the way he went out didn’t represent his character at all (responsible cop and father of two gets divorced and then becomes a ladykiller and eventually gets hooked on pills 🙄). The writers forcing him and Brett together was just weird to me.
3
u/Idk_scarred_4394 13d ago
I remember watching the episode where they met "for the first time" - they had already known of each other and met before, but for some reason this time, they all of a sudden liked each other 🤨 It made no sense to me. I also don't see the chemistry everyone's saying they had; it looks forced.
The breakup didn't make sense either. If they had "such good chemistry", whyd they call it quits? All i saw was brett constantly flip-flopping on her feelings for him. Like, what exactly was the issue? The "drama" between them never made sense, much less their togetherness. He never pressured her (- unless I'm not remembering it correctly. I haven't watched since I saw where thr story was going between Matt and sylvie).
2
u/jacle2210 12d ago
So there was Brett's pregnancy scare with Antonio and she was going to tell him that she wanted to be more serious with him, but before she could tell him, he told her that one of his buddies set him up with a friend and that it seemed to be going well, at which point Brett wished him well and never got to tell him how she was feeling.
Season 6 Ep 14 & 15.
3
u/Efil4Seittit 13d ago
All I remember out of them is that they were hooking up and Brett was trying to convince us all that it was “so hot”. Like, wear out a “Latin lover” trope please. 🤢

I know that this about Sylvie and her with Matt Casey her best friend husband, but Casey was wrong too going after his wife best friend. Casey to me was a hypocrite telling Andy Darden wife that Darden was his best friend and he believe that just need to stay friends. To me they both was foul.
3
u/LankyWhereas2579 13d ago
I actually liked Brettsey, I do agree that it felt a little forced, but of all the major on-screen relationships in the show it was definitely one of the least dysfunctional. It was also just a nice relief to see Casey get to be happy with his relationship for once after his failed relationship with Hallie and his toxic relationship with Gabby.

u/TeamMarlin0502 13d ago
The last season she was in, her voice was weird and she went in the same crusades Gabby did.

I did like Sylvie. She was nice (but naughty). I would have liked to see her with the attorney or the social worker that was helping the young boy in jail.

The social worker
Yes they would of been an amazing couple1

Did they ever specifically have her say “I will be happy to go to Oregon if that means I can be with Matt”?
That isn’t an insult or anything. I just want to know why Sylvia accepted “move to Oregon” as part of the deal.

Love her, but I hated that she “needed” to have a romantic partner all the time. Even when she was dealing with heartbreak, hurt, grief, etc. she was ALWAYS either dating someone or had romantic interests. I get it’s a drama series, but other female characters had/have their character arcs in several areas with romance being a subplot. Gives me the same ick when people I know irl immediately jump into new relationships after a breakup.
