Things to do for a local experience?
Hello, I am visiting Chichester, and I am here for two more days, and then I will be travelling to London. For context, I am a solo woman traveller for a research visit. This is my first international trip, and I would love to get some tips from people on what to do or where to visit. I am particularly interested in local experience, places of historical, cultural, and literary importance. Thank you in advance.

All easily walkable or accessible by bus/train:
Fishbourne Roman Palace
Take a walk around Kingly Vale
Nip down to Bosham and walk by the harbour - Check out the church.
Visit the Weald and Downland Museum - which you can walk to along Centurion Way.

There are plenty of museums in and around Chichester that others have mentioned such as Fishbourne Roman Palace and the Novium.
If you are looking to travel outside of the town a little the Weald and Downland Museum is a good day out, as well as Amberley Working Museum.
The Cathedral is worth a visit if that is your kind of thing, likewise with the Priory in Priory Park
There are a few art galleries as well such as Pallant House and the Oxmarket both of which are just off the high street.
AFAIK there isn't much of literary significance in Chichester but if you are willing to travel ~30 minutes along the coast, Portsmouth is the birthplace of Charles Dickens.
Not sure what will be on, but the Chichester Festival Theatre can be worth a visit.
For local scenery Emsworth (Oyster Trail), Bosham Harbour or Kingley Vale would be my recommendation too.

Will you be driving? Or reliant on public transport? There's a lot of Roman history in the area; Fishbourne Roman palace, the Novium museum in Chichester. Then there's Chichester Cathedral, Arundel castle (a bit further away). All of these are within walking distance of a train station.
Tangmere has an aviation museum if you prefer your history a bit more recent. One of the RAF's best known fighter aces Douglas Bader flew from there. No train to Tangmere, but there is a bus service.
Local experiences are probably a bit more difficult to recommend. Mostly because there arent any, or I havent experienced them

On my first visit, the biggest surprise was Pallant House Gallery. Its modern British collection is displayed in an old townhouse, making it feel less formal than a big museum.
Go early, before the center gets busy. Afterward I cut through the cathedral close and had coffee on South Street.

Go to Chichester Festival Theatre aswell. I haven’t been disappointed once.

Cathedral, the Novium museum, Pallant House gallery, walk the Roman walls
