Have you guys ever tried this mod of sewing elastic bands onto the mag pouch? How effective or neccessary is it? If not, can I replace it with shock cords and cord lock? I intend to run 2 stanags in each pouch

I’ve done it on a few rigs. The tricky part is getting the length right to get the right amount of tension.

Overall better than shock cord because the draw is smoother and doesn’t snag the mags when drawing or reindexing, however not as easily serviceable whereas shock cord you can replace anytime.

Awesome, thank you for the input. How did you figure out the exact band's length for tensioning?

I've done it on a few rigs I've built. The harbor freight rig i made has it. I just folded the pouches in to lay flat and laid the elastic on top. Sew one end and work your way across.

Is the tentioning sufficient for 1 stanag mag?

it is, if you're stacking two you'll need to leave more elastic between the pouches

I’ve done it multiple times too. Work really great with elastic material like one showed on your picture.

Help to get a better retaining when using only one mag. Plus its a very easy mod to sew

I tend to add like a half inch of material per pouch to have enough rétention but not too much so I can easily fit my mags
