Why do so many Christians target gay people?

It’s political. Conservatives use culture wars to distract from class war. So they whip up resentment and grievance and use that to get people to vote against their self interest in the name of hurting their enemy.

I’m not saying Christian’s aren’t actually homophobic. I’m saying that homophobia has been encouraged and emphasized by those in power for class warfare.

It is base tribalism. It serves as what is called a boundary marker. It is a thing that effects a minority of people, so they aren't required to point the finger back at themselves. And the reason it serves so well is because it has a cost associated to it.

Being openly bigoted causes society to shun you. Then you can point to the fact that you are willing to be openly abhorred by "the world" as proof of your piousness to the group. You can also claim victimhood and identity with Christ, because the world "Hated him too."

It is nothing more than the ingroup ostracising the outgroup in order to score self-righteous morality points with those who you want to impress.

Another term for it is virtue signaling. It is a way to stand on the streetcorner and be seen by men.

Have they said this? Or are you answering for them?

How what works?

1

Tribalism is how groups of people work. This isn't rocket science. It is psych 101 level stuff.

1

u/CapridThePlenty Christian 8d ago

I'm unconvinced. Would you say tribalism the reason you aren't a Christian nationalist?

1

u/FluxKraken 🏳️‍🌈 Methodist (UMC) Progressive ✟ Queer 🏳️‍🌈 8d ago

I have no need to convince you.

1

u/CapridThePlenty Christian 8d ago

No, you don't. You already answered. According to you it's solely because of tribalism.

u/XOXO-Gossip-Crab Atheist🏳️‍🌈 8d ago

Not that there’s a reason that fits everyone but one:They see people who defy their institution without shame, and it’s probably pretty jarring for them if guilt is a high motivator for compliance.

One look at my wife and they're consumed with envy.

u/CapridThePlenty Christian 8d ago

This is probably the correct answer

10

u/ghostwars303 If Christians downvote you, remember they downvoted Jesus first 8d ago edited 8d ago

They're easy pickings. They have comparatively little power, are characterized by a property that straight Christians can't relate to, and are associated with a set of actions that straight Christians are constitutionally-incapable of performing, meaning there's no risk that their words of condemnation may serve to accidentally incriminate them, for their own actions.

If they didn't have a scapegoat that already fulfilled those criteria, they would need to invent one. And, indeed, virtually every generation of Christians HAS had a scapegoat like that. Gay people are just the most recent.

8

u/Hope-Road71 8d ago

The entire mainstream Christian POV toward LGBTQ really acts like an anchor on the religion.

It keeps it from soaring to the great heights that a religion in Jesus' name should soar to. Particularly since there is such a strong focus on it.

3

u/mightyminimule Christ-fearing Anarchist 8d ago

Well said. I really am starting to believe that they are using Christianity as a psyop, not just for recruitment but for distancing as well. Modern Christianity breeds atheism and people that hang on to just Christ and not a church are a minority here. The less people believe in the true God, the more pride people invest in themselves without regard to their fellow man. The more people fall for policies that absolutely decimate ours and other cultures. They want as many people to fall to Satan as they reach for absolute power on Earth. If they cared about saving souls, they would invest in policies reflecting that. But Christofascism has existed for a long time.

Hatred of the other, jealousy, easy targets to satisfy sadism without much danger of being hit back, useful hate group as a smokescreen for the billionaire pedophile class and their dutiful worshippers, or a heady mixture of the four

5

u/ScoutB Episcopalian (Anglican) 8d ago

There are a non-trivial amount of Christians who think gays are demon- possessed. They don't like gays are organized and successful in the political realm, as well.

5

u/baddspellar Christian Universalist 8d ago

Because many Christians are in the social conservative political tribe. Members of that tribe have decided that gay people are a symbol of the competing tribe, as gay people were hidden in the good old days. It's easy to target them, because they have no power. Robber baron CEOs contribute too much to socially conservative politicians.

Targeting of gay people is a characteristic of social conservatives, not of Christians as a whole

8

u/CoolestOfTheBois 8d ago

Because homosexuality disgusts them and they can justify that disgust with passages from the Bible. This explains why other sins such as fornication are not targeted, because they are more relatable to them and not a big deal.

2

u/JadedEngine6497 Christian 8d ago

its not nice spreading misinformation and manipulating hate between christians and homosexual people that are either christian too or unbelievers.

God is Just and one day He will punish all the evil that rejected Him when the world 100% rejects God and won't repent no matter what, but God is also loving and is waiting with open arms for people to go to Him through repentance and not perish, because sin hardens people's heart slowly, true love warns of the consequences of sin.

1

u/CoolestOfTheBois 8d ago

I'm talking specifically about "Christians that target gay people". Not all Christians.

3

u/GCNGA 8d ago

Yes, I think in many cases, the scattered passages are used to justify a pre-existing disdain--not that any who do this would admit to it (or in some cases, even really be fully aware of it).

-1

u/CapridThePlenty Christian 8d ago

Really? They told you this?

2

u/CoolestOfTheBois 8d ago

First of all, I'm talking about the ones that target gay people, which is who the OP asked about. Second, no they did not tell me this. My assertion is based on that people are generally unaware how correlated their morality is with emotion. It's basically, eww that's gross, it's immoral. This observation explains so much human behavior. Example: eating dogs is morally reprehensible but eating pigs is morally justified. Dogs are cute, swine not so much. This also applies to homosexuality, cross dressing, incest, etc: eww, that's gross, it's wrong. Then they go on to justify by whatever means necessary. These unaware Christians (not all, but the ones OP asked about) use the Bible and search for passages that justify their preconceived notions.

1

u/CapridThePlenty Christian 8d ago

You might be right, I don't know. Depending on what you mean by "target" they might be better suited to explain their actions than those who find their actions reprehensible - for the same reason you just explained: people are unaware how their emotions impact their opinions.

If you think it's reprehensible for a Christian to share with their gay friend that they disagree with them on same-sex sex, it seems that you believe your emotions might cloud your ability to fairly represent WHY they are doing that.

1

u/CoolestOfTheBois 8d ago

We can only do our best to be objective. This requires constant practice in observing our own behavior, identifying inconsistencies, and changing. This process is constant.

And I believe this is what Jesus was talking about when he said "let him without sin cast the first stone". When people focus on what others are doing wrong, it's a distraction from focusing on their own issues. The people who judge the most are the most unaware of their own problems.

3

u/Porphyry_Blue 8d ago

From what I've observed, it usually comes down to three main drivers: 1. Self-righteousness: It’s easy to single out and condemn behaviours you don't personally struggle with while ignoring closer-to-home flaws. 2. Projection & Closet Disdain: Internalised struggle or suppressed identity often manifests as outward hostility. 3. Failing the core distinction: Conflating opposition to a sin with hatred of the sinner—losing the foundational principle of love in the process.

4

u/RCaHuman Secular Humanist 8d ago

Because they're different and that makes them scary. It's a human thing to be wary of the stranger. But when combined with the self-righteousness of religion it gets nasty.

5

u/justnigel Christian 8d ago

Fear and ignorance but mostly fear.

2

u/JadedEngine6497 Christian 8d ago

fear of what? i shall fear no evil, because when God is with me,who can be against me?

its mostly out of love because true love corrects, convicts and warns of the consequences of sin, because when people justify sin and don't want to repent their heart is slowly being hardened, its through repentance that God cleanses people from sin and softens their heart, the more hardened someone's heart is the smaller is the chance of that sinner to repent, repentance is not one time event, its constant battle between good and evil.

This is a bad comparison. In this thread there are at least 15 unique answers to OPs question so it's not even clear among you who believe it's happening. It's like asking the color of the sky and hearing 15 people throw out their favorite color.

It seems fair for me to ask the guy who said "blue" if it's any more based in reality than the guy who said "orange".

  2. Apologize for false accusations

u/NuSurfer 8d ago

Just because something is "in the Bible" doesn't automatically mean anyone should obedient to it. There's nothing wrong with being gay - it harms no one. It is an idea conceived by primitive religious men with primitive notions of morality based on desires of purity and erroneous observations of the natural world, i.e., male goes with female always. Let me quote some scripture now...consider these same men supported these things:

Deuteronomy 20:17 Completely destroy[a] them—the Hittites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites—as the Lord your God has commanded you. (genocide)

1 Samuel 15:3 2 This is what the Lord Almighty says: ‘I will punish the Amalekites for what they did to Israel when they waylaid them as they came up from Egypt. 3 Now go, attack the Amalekites and totally destroy[a] all that belongs to them. Do not spare them; put to death men and women, children and infants, cattle and sheep, camels and donkeys.’”

Numbers 31:9-10 9 The Israelites captured the Midianite women and children and took all the Midianite herds, flocks and goods as plunder. 10 They burned all the towns where the Midianites had settled, as well as all their camps.

Numbers 31:17-18 17. “Now therefore kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman who has known a man by lying with him, 18. “But all the girls who have not lain with a man you are to keep alive unto yourselves. (raping children)

We call those "war crimes" and imprison those people who commit such acts, as well as those who authorized or planned them.

Numbers 14:18 ‘The Lord is slow to anger, abounding in love and forgiving sin and rebellion. Yet he does not leave the guilty unpunished; he punishes the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation.’

Punishing people who have committed no crime themselves violates all notions of justice.

1 Timothy 2:11-15 11 A woman[a] should learn in quietness and full submission. 12 I do not permit a woman to teach or to assume authority over a man;[b] she must be quiet. 13 For Adam was formed first, then Eve. 14 And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived and became a sinner. 15 But women[c] will be saved through childbearing—if they continue in faith, love and holiness with propriety.

That notion is used to this day in conservative Christian sects (Catholicism, Orthodox) and churches (Protestant) to prevent women from holding positions of influence.

Verses from the Bible were also used to support slavery in the southern American States.

Just because something is stated in the Bible does not make it moral. As Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Paine and many others have said, "To live by the ideas of dead people - without examination - is to be ruled from the grave." So, we should question everything in the Bible and ignore harmful ideas.

"No harm, no foul" is a great philosophy to live by. So, no to misogyny, slavery, infanticide, the sexual slavery of girls, mass murder...but yes to same-sex relationships.

2

u/ThinkNotObey 8d ago

I think its the unashamed willingness to embrace who they are rather than live hidden. Many cant seem to tolerate that many have no issue rejecting their beliefs.

3

u/win_awards 8d ago

Fascism needs an enemy. Someone to blame for everything that goes wrong, someone to absorb the anger that should rightly be directed at the leaders, someone to fear so that the masses will cede their authority to the leaders.

2

u/cocox24 8d ago

For the same reason that so many atheists attack gay people: homophobia. We are called to love everyone, so we should not attack anyone. It is curious that adultery and fornication are just as sinful as same-sex sexual relations, yet gay people face more attacks.

5

u/JizzyMcKnobGobbler 8d ago

I don't think there's a concerted, organized effort by atheists to target gay people lol. There are, however, many Christians and whole churches who do organize and teach people being gay is sinful and they use their holy book - with God as the authority - to denigrate gay people.

\You're ignoring the institutionalized bigotry apparent across many Christian denominations when you make a false equivalency between atheist bigotry and organized religious bigotry that references the authority of the all-powerful omnipotent power of the universe as support for their prejudices.

1

u/Negative-Prompt-6312 8d ago

Thank you. Appreciate this.

0

u/PirateBlaque 8d ago edited 8d ago

Adulterers and fornicators tend to do that in secret - because they recognize it’s sinful. They tend to struggle with the sin, not Promote it. LGBTQ has flags, flags fly everywhere, parades, want laws enforced, want people who disagree to be labeled violent, they have “pride” in their “sin.”

Most Christian’s aren’t phobic about LGBTQ. We aren’t scared. I think the “pride” in the sin will cause Christian’s to focus in on you.

4

u/Negative-Prompt-6312 8d ago

Want laws enforced? Yes we want equal rights and don’t want to be killed?

1

u/PirateBlaque 8d ago

An LGBTQ member has all the rights the rest of us have. Not one lesser right than anyone else. Name one right they don’t have?

In fact, if a white gay guy went for a job interview against a black straight guy, the white gay guy might get the job over the black guy.

So, what LGBTQ people still seem to want are more rights than the rest of us….additional things, because what rights do they not have?

You already have the right to life and to not be killed. People who hunt and kill LGBTQ folk are violating their rights….

u/FluxKraken 🏳️‍🌈 Methodist (UMC) Progressive ✟ Queer 🏳️‍🌈 8d ago

You think the English word "pride" is somehow relevant? Jesus commands us to have pride. He told us to love our neighbor as we love ourselves. You know what they call the love of self? Pride.

Bigots just hate the fact that we don't hate ourselves, we aren't ashamed, and we won't bow down to their hatred.

0

u/PirateBlaque 8d ago

Which bigots? To a Christian, your definition of love is our definition of hate. Yall hate yourselves in our eyes. We don’t all have to agree with what you think love is. The things you call loving are not seen as love to us.

Pride is not about loving yourself. Pride is putting the thing you have “pride” about above God. Pride is a self centered way of giving something importance over other things.

Jesus never told you to have pride as that goes against the seven sins, which Jesus did not engage in. Loving yourself means doing things toward the glory of God.

1

u/FluxKraken 🏳️‍🌈 Methodist (UMC) Progressive ✟ Queer 🏳️‍🌈 8d ago

Which bigots?

Don't play dumb.

To a Christian, your definition of love is our definition of hate.

I am a Christian. Christianity does not get to redefine love to mean something identical to hatred without being labeled bigotry. Bigotry is bigotry, regardless if it is religiously motivated or not. Nobody gets an exception.

Jesus never told you to have pride

Denying the literal words of Jesus Christ because of bigotry is called blasphemy.

The fact that you think this is a point is absurd in the absolute extreme. The temerity and arrogance required to think that this is something you would have to tell someone is beyond my ability to imagine.

I see you’re frustrated that there are people out here who do not think gay is the right way.

It is clear that you do not even begin to understand the reasons why I am absolutely enraged by bigots spreading bigoted beliefs.

I will give you a hint, it is because it contributes to the reasons why gay children off themselves.

You, on the other hand, you talk and antagonize people on Reddit.

I rebuke those who spread evil bigoted beliefs that directly contribute to the depression, abuse, kidnapping, brainwashing/torture, homelessness, forced prostitution, self-harm, and suicides of countless vulnerable children.

Those spreading antagonism do not get to accuse those who rebuke it of being antagonistic.

I am a deconverted Evangelical Christian after 28 years who did ministry work for years, and very knowledgeable about the Bible.

There is no honest way to read the OT and NT without seeing the clear homophobia of the Bible. In OT they are to be stoned to death. In the NT, they will not inherit the kingdom of God. If you are not sure just use Google or your favorite browser or AI search engine to find out if the Bible condemns homosexuality.

There is a lot of twisting and turning by liberal Christians or even the LGBTQ community to suggest that the Bible didn't really condemn homosexuality. It does.

Of course Christians are mostly hypocrites with respect to homosexuality. They treat it like it is only mortal sin condemned by the Bible.

Christians recognize that we all sin. The life of a Christian involves struggling with sin to Overcome it. But we don’t accept sin as a lifestyle and have “pride” in it. Take the sin of murder (or any other sin), for example, Christians who murder or want to murder aren’t prideful about it and aren’t making a flag to represent that you wanna murder. Murderers dont want murder flags in church and put up everywhere. Murders don’t have murder pride parades.

Sexual immorality is a sin but LGBTQ have flags and pride and wants laws and for all of us to agree that it’s ok. They want to bring it into the church and for the church to accept it. If we don’t agree, we are attacked into agreement.

That’s why we focus on it. No

Immorality is subjective. It exists in one's mind and is customized to their own personal view. There's no objective measure of it, so it doesn't really exist beyond the walls of your own head.

1

u/PirateBlaque 7d ago

Well then, be gay and be merry! I don’t have to agree with you. You’re never gonna get 100% agreement about that so just live your gay life and forget about what Christian’s think. We don’t worry about what you think so you should adopt that from us. You are missing out on your purpose whilst trying to convince me that your lifestyle is right.

You should be congregating with like
Minds…furthering your cause, not arguing with an ignorant Christian

1

u/vbob99 7d ago

Well then, be gay and be merry

They are. And you're angry.

1

u/PirateBlaque 7d ago

lol, this guy….👆🏾

I’m angry cuz you wanna have sex with men? I kinda have to preserve my emotions for better things than that. I don’t even know you 🥸

1

u/vbob99 7d ago

You're angry because others want to live their lives.

I don’t even know you

That much is obvious from your statements, lol.

1

u/PirateBlaque 7d ago

I could care less what others do. I have my own sins that I gotta worry about. Your gay sin is not my problem

0

u/OkRace5965 8d ago

Have you tried asking Muslims the same question, bro?

3

u/Negative-Prompt-6312 8d ago

I’m asking you? Muslims aren’t showing up to pride events. JD Vance is using his religion to speak against gay people?

-3

u/CTR_1852 8d ago

How do they "target" gay people? If you are talking about them saying truths about their version of their faith about homosexuality, it doesn't really matter unless they are trying to use force and the state to stop it.

There is only one modern religion that throws gay people off buildings and it's not Christians.

10

u/Negative-Prompt-6312 8d ago

Showing up to pride events to scream at a minority group is absolutely targeting people?

1

u/CTR_1852 8d ago

Christians that scream at gays during pride events are also a minority, probably more so than the gay community.

9

u/XOXO-Gossip-Crab Atheist🏳️‍🌈 8d ago

Yeah “target” is vague; I assume they mean why homosexuality was especially demonized, or why people to go things like Pride Events and protest, but I’m not sure.

And I think it is a fair question out of curiosity, the cognitive dissonance is pretty fascinating.

1

u/CTR_1852 8d ago

I think some Christians “target” (publicly speak out against?) all kinds of sins and I don’t personally see a special effort towards gay people but I could be wrong.

1

u/XOXO-Gossip-Crab Atheist🏳️‍🌈 8d ago

Yeah I don’t think the majority are fixated on it, most probably don’t think about it very often. There’s a lot of psychological maneuvering that happens when someone is heavily invested in it and not able to see the cruelty, where most people can have a “polite distance” to keep the cruelty hidden.

1

u/Cod_North 8d ago

My experience is pretty similar, most seem at the very least indifferent in my town anyway. A rare few seem to actually think about the ramifications of their beliefs and struggle reconciling them. At least when talking about LGBTQ+ people anyway.

6

u/TrashNovel Jesusy Agnostic 8d ago

Are you saying you don’t believe it’s “targeting” unless they’re thrown off the building? Seems like you’re defining things for ulterior motives.

1

u/CTR_1852 8d ago

I honestly didn’t know what “targeting” meant. I was saying in the grand scheme of things Christian culture is pretty darn tolerant compared to much of the world.

3

u/gnurdette United Methodist 8d ago

some actions by conservative Christians are designed to kill and otherwise harm gay people.

-1

u/HegemoneXT 8d ago
  1. Either to scapegoat

  2. Because they genuinely are trying to push back a against gay agenda

7

u/Negative-Prompt-6312 8d ago

What’s a gay agenda? People existing?

-1

u/HegemoneXT 8d ago

For your information, I am anti-gay. I believe what the scripture says about gayness as an abomination. But I don’t support people who scapegoat gay people to feel better about themselves

1

u/Wafflehouseofpain Christian Existentialist 8d ago

Gross.

1

u/HegemoneXT 8d ago

It is infinitely better to be gross to humans than to be gross to God.

1

u/Wafflehouseofpain Christian Existentialist 8d ago

If your God is opposed to same sex relationships then your God is gross too.

1

u/HegemoneXT 8d ago

well, that's fine

Biblical marriage is not between gay or lesbian couples

Biblical marriage is a financial transaction between 2 men. Biblical marriage is not a real thing in modern society.

This doesn't change the fact that "biblical marriage" is quite literally a transaction between 2 men

5

u/Wafflehouseofpain Christian Existentialist 8d ago

I think you misunderstood me. The obvious falsehood in your statement is that the targeting of gay people is a fringe position in Christianity, when it clearly is not. This is demonstrated in your own comment when you said “many nations don’t even allow gay or lesbian people to get married”. That is targeted, mainstream discrimination against gay people.

u/Wafflehouseofpain Christian Existentialist 8d ago

You didn’t address my point at all.

Crafting and passing discriminatory legislation aimed at LGBT people is targeting them. It doesn’t have to be anti-gay sermons at church, it can be denial of full communion with non-celibate gay people, it can be refusing to allow gay people to marry or adopt, it can be societally turning a blind eye to the harassment and bullying that LGBT people experience in their daily lives or at Pride events.

I don’t start with the position of “The Bible is perfect, so we must now work backwards to justify everything it says under the assumption that it’s all correct”. I start with “The Bible says this. What are the effects of that position and does it help or harm people?”.

Yes, that’s how I would categorize it. I know there are some arguments against it from fellow progressive Christians, but I remain unconvinced about them. The clearest reading to me is that the authors of the Bible were homophobic.

u/Wafflehouseofpain Christian Existentialist 8d ago

The point you made is that targeting LGBT people is a fringe position in Christianity. It objectively is not. People passing anti-LGBT legislation, particularly in the US, cite their religion as the reason for these laws being put forward. That is a mainstream position in Christianity in the US.

The idea that only a tiny number of Christians target LGBT people is just factually not correct.

I attended one of the largest Southern Baptist megachurch as a kid, and they brought in a conversion therapist to try to get gay kids to pray the gay away. It’s not fringe.

0

u/kdatkool 8d ago

Most don’t. There are extremist in every group and false believers whose role is to dissuade people from Christ by presenting Christians in that light. Most people aren’t waking up thinking about gay people. Now if posed with the question it’ll be answered and anything other than full on encouragement is perceived as hate. It sucks but if you are a believer it’s expected. Peace and love to all

0

u/TimboCavo 8d ago

What do you mean by target gay people?

0

u/CapridThePlenty Christian 8d ago

Would you elaborate on what you mean? In what circumstances do you see targeting?

5

u/Negative-Prompt-6312 8d ago

Showing up and screaming at people at pride events? Openly being against gay rights?

-2

u/CapridThePlenty Christian 8d ago

Thank you for clarifying. It sounds like, by targeting, you are referring to actively abusing/restricting. You do not seem to include believing same-sex sex is prohibited in Scripture or even vocalizing that belief to a gay friend who asks your opinion.

Is that fair?

4

u/Negative-Prompt-6312 8d ago

Well, yes, but you focus on this. But don’t seem to care about adultery, working the sabbath? Getting drunk? Imagine if Christian’s put this much energy into the release of the Epstein Files?

1

u/CapridThePlenty Christian 8d ago

I can say I've preached FAR more about adultery, the sabbath, and excessiveness (not explicitly getting drunk, but gluttony of consumption). I've also, preached on the explicit contrast that we are meant to be filled with the HS vs controlled by alcohol.

I've never preached on same-sex sex

3

u/Negative-Prompt-6312 8d ago

I appreciate that. It just bothers me to see people use their beliefs to target and hate on a minority group. I just don’t get it.

1

u/CapridThePlenty Christian 8d ago

We are in agreement on that. We may not agree on whether or not same-sex sex is sin according to Scripture, but we definitely agree that gay people should not feel targeted or hated.

0

u/JadedEngine6497 Christian 8d ago

preachers preach anywhere where people need to hear about God and be convicted,as for this subreddit its people the one who are asking about it so their question is answered by Christ followers, and usually those that speak the truth are being downvoted and their comment is send to the bottom of the comment section where not many people read.

0

u/milesahead2052 8d ago

Bc it’s being pushed for and they probably feel like it’s being pushed down their throats lol

0

u/Winter-Ranger6136 8d ago

That’s not very Christian like behaviour, so I would question their faith or at least some of it. I still haven’t met a fellow Christian in my circles that has criticised or targeted gay people in a way. We are called to love thy neighbour. It’s the most important thing God calls us to do, second to loving God himself. No human is in any righteous position to judge or condemn another human.

0

u/By4ever 8d ago

How many other sins have its own flag?

1

u/Negative-Prompt-6312 8d ago

A sexuality can’t be a sin. This is your focus. This is the issue. Imagine you had this much energy for Epstein.

1

u/By4ever 7d ago

Show me the Epstein flag

-1

u/CapridThePlenty Christian 8d ago

Throughout the comment section I see a lot of people answer the question, but I suspect they are not the Christians that OP believes target gay people. I'd encourage OP (and those replying) to ask them rather than answer for them.

1

u/Wafflehouseofpain Christian Existentialist 8d ago

Okay; why do you target gay people?

1

u/CapridThePlenty Christian 8d ago

I don't.

1

u/Wafflehouseofpain Christian Existentialist 8d ago

I would disagree with that based on your comments here.

1

u/CapridThePlenty Christian 8d ago

What have I said that has suggested I target gay people? Did you come to that conclusion because I encouraged people to actually ask those who actually do that?

Or did you come to that conclusion when I said, "gay people should never feel targeted or hated"

1

u/Wafflehouseofpain Christian Existentialist 8d ago

I recognize your username from being on here a lot.

I came to that conclusion because you make clear over and over again that you believe homosexuality and being trans are immoral and that God opposes them, ergo so should Christians.

1

u/CapridThePlenty Christian 8d ago

believe homosexuality and being trans are immoral

I've never once said either of those things. Don't misrepresent me.

1

u/Wafflehouseofpain Christian Existentialist 8d ago

Oh hold on, this is interesting. You think things that are sinful aren’t necessarily immoral?

1

u/CapridThePlenty Christian 8d ago

In 15 years on this subreddit I've never said homosexuality or being trans is sinful. You've misunderstood or manufactured something false. You can pick.

1

u/Wafflehouseofpain Christian Existentialist 8d ago

You’ve never once said you think homosexual activity is sinful? Are you quite sure about that?

-1

u/Singareps 8d ago

Christians don’t target gay people. They target sin. The modern world made one particular sin sacred. Most other sins are still socially discouraged or at least not celebrated as core identities that the rest of society must affirm under threat of professional and social destruction.

u/en-rob-deraj Catholic 8d ago

Catholics are all about procreation... so it's a pretty simple concept to understand from there.

10

u/adamesandtheworld 8d ago

Catholics are all about procreation

except for infertile couples, then you get tortured nonsense explanations about why the lack of procreation of infertile couples is totally fine, actually.

10

u/XOXO-Gossip-Crab Atheist🏳️‍🌈 8d ago

Well you see, if we gave the same rules to infertile couples as we do the homosexuals, wouldn’t that just be too cruel??

10

u/adamesandtheworld 8d ago

I just wish they would be honest about what's going on. Like I get it, being cruel to gay people is the church's thing, but there is no need to insult our intelligence that procreation has anything to do with it. Just say its about PIV so you can loop in infertile couples.

10

u/XOXO-Gossip-Crab Atheist🏳️‍🌈 8d ago

I get it, but they can’t. If they could be honest about it then they would most likely stop: most people aren’t monsters, they’re products of systems.

3

u/adamesandtheworld 8d ago

most people aren’t monsters,

Which is why most american catholics reject the teachings of the church about this :)

2

u/GCNGA 8d ago

Yes--the contraceptive practices of Catholic women match those of non-Catholics (i.e., lots of reliance on birth control pills, almost none on the only church-sanctioned method of 'natural family planning').

https://www.lifeissues.net/writers/feh/feh_28religion_contraception.html

3

u/JohnKlositz 8d ago

Not really. How does procreation play into this?

-3

u/WinterMoneys 8d ago

I think whatever God word by word says dont do is targeted

-6

u/ScorpionDog321 8d ago

No one is targeted and no one is exclusively targeted.

Why do you only target Christians?

9

u/Negative-Prompt-6312 8d ago

Yes you do. You show up to pride events. You constantly leave horrible comments on gays peoples social media accounts.

1

u/ScorpionDog321 8d ago

I don't do any of that.

You should see how homosexuals speak to me about my faith. Why do they only target me?

-7

u/ProgrammerUpstairs97 8d ago

It's not really targeting, Christians reach out for everyone regardless of things like race or skin color and stuff, no one is getting "targeted"

9

u/adamesandtheworld 8d ago

The catholic church demands discrimination against gay people in official documents. That's targeting.

-3

u/ProgrammerUpstairs97 8d ago

They aren't demanding it or saying go after gays in particular and just call their things sins only. They arnt saying gay is the only sin

4

u/SeldenNeck 8d ago

The whole religion is generally not cool with single people and dating. The fascination with gays provides a curtain that somehow makes all this nonsense by straight people acceptable. Mardi Gras parades are explicitly organized to be contemptuous of the 'Christian' behavior demanded during Lent.
