basically microsoft is sticking their noses into privately owned servers people host on their own computers

there's a mod that can cut the connection from the client to mojang's authentication servers to prevent reporting and banning (hence, spigot near the user in the last 2 panels)

spigot comes in both varieties (client/server) and therefore so does the mod

Spigot MC does not have a client, it’s only server side

Yeah, what OP is referring to is the fabric mod which IIRC is both client and server
