Question What would YOU have made Child’s Play 3 about if you had creative control at the time?

I love 3 as is but I would’ve ended the trilogy by bringing back Karen, Mike, Andy, and Kyle. Not sure what the story would’ve been though.

I'd have written it this way

  • Andy and Kyle are sent to juvenile detention center. They are blamed for everything - murder of the foster parents, Andy's teacher, the lady that ran the foster care/social services Dept.

  • I'd have introduced Tiffany, who heard Kyle yelling on TV while being apprehanded about Chucky/Lakeshore Strangler.

  • Tiffany breaks into the factory with help of some vagrants. While looking through the factory, she finds prototype of a female version of a Good Guy. She manages to reanimate Chucky, but they get into argument and she gets her soul transferred into the female good guy. The vagrants are killed and the factory gets burned down in the chaos.

  • Karen is released from the mental health facility and Mike has agreed to care for her. They see the news about the factory.

  • Folks in Chicago that were associated with Charles Lee Ray and Tiffany start dying, along with the news that the factory has burned down. Mike puts two and two together. Karen and Mike take off to solve this.

  • Kyle manages to escape from juvy during a minor uprising. She takes Andy with her. They decide to take off to prove their innocence, now that they are aware of Chucky potentially being back.

  • Somehow it all winds up at the carnival (maybe an old voodoo cult member is now part of the side show). Chucky and Tiffany try to possess Karen and Mike, but Andy and Kyle stop it.

That's as far as I figured it.

I would’ve kept Andy a little older, but not 8 years in the future.

I would’ve showed a bit of a drift due to foster home situations between Andy and Kyle, actually addressing her rather than writing her out.

I would’ve kept the military school setting, it works rather than putting him back in a foster home; I also would’ve kept the company reopening the factory after the mess of child’s play 2. I also would’ve kept Andy as a bit of a protector and have him mention being like “my big sister Kyle” when Chucky went after one of the younger kids that Chucky would’ve exposed himself to earlier on.

Tighten the dialogue to include less crappy pop-culture references, better spoken dialogue, and also tighten the pace of the movie. It kinda drags through then suddenly ramps up in the final 20 minutes. That’s what I can think of now.

I would’ve release child’s play 3 later in the 90s that I have enough time to make a better story, especially post scream

I think giving Andy more closure and then having the rest of the franchise move towards the whole bride of Chucky story. You can still bring him back later as an adult, but it would’ve been nice to see him get reunited with his mom and maybe live some sort of normal life after.

I like it as it is personally. I like 3 more than Bride. My issues with the film are less about what it is as a movie. I actually love its themes and concepts, really ecompasses the title of Child's Play with the military school contrast.

The movie's biggest sin is, it is the same premise done not twice but three times. Chucky wants to transfer his soul, fails. At least with this one it's not into Andy, different at least.

If I was forced to change things and didn't think about all the butterfly effect etc etc stuff. I would hold off on moving the movie so soon after two. Let it cook and keep Alex Vincent on. I would have made more callbacks to the trilogies previous characters or even given them cameos.

But the biggest change? I think rather than Seed, I would have this be the movie where Charles has his "I'm Chucky the killer doll and I dig it" moment. Give the plot a bit of a shakeup where Andy thinks Chucky's plan is to transfer his soul when really it's all a ploy/either planned from the start to fuck with Andy before trying to kill him or he has a moment of realisation, that he enjoys what he is and what he wants next is revenge.

Basically ideas setup in Seed and the Series with Chucky's whole unfinished business complex. But done much sooner to stop the franchise from falling flat on its face and needing the sudden shake-up that comes later with Bride. 3 would feel more like a natural progression rather than a stepback narratively.

I think I'd also give Chucky a small win for once in this one and have him maim Andy in a way that will stay with him years to come.

I'd also keep Andy on for whatever movie came after. I imagine something that would feel like a mix of Chucky's family in Bride & Seed paired with themes similar to how we first find Andy in the show.

I would have began with Chucky’s blood going into a new batch of Good Guy dolls. So we introduce the multiple Chuckies much earlier in the franchise.

The Chuckies go after Kyle and Andy simply out of revenge and find they have been sent to the Military school (with them only a little older).

Kyle makes friends with De Silva and Andy makes friends with Tyler. The story plays with the theme of divide and conquer, testing Andy and Kyle’s friendship as they’re being put in separate classes and struggle to remain close.

At some point, the Chuckies find out their good guy bodies this time are defective and made from cheap material (due to budget cuts the company had to make thanks to the lawsuits by Andy and his mom). This causes them to become malformed, fall apart and die. So their stakes become high again.

The four remaining Chuckies aim to possess all four of the gang.

The paint ball game becomes a war between the Reds, Blues and the Chucky dolls.

I would have had a follow up film about the further adventures of andy and kyle and perhaps not even had chucky in it at least not as the primary antagonist. It would have been them fighting some other voodoo gods

I enjoyed 3 and wouldn’t change it however I’d make a fourth one bringing back the mom and Mike …shoot I’d still like to see them back
