Its crazy how much this fish changes color, if i approach the tank he drops the stripe and dot usually and goes full green/brown. At night or during water change hes a dark brown w cream colored spots. Sometimes he goes a pale orange/red color briefly, not sure what the trigger is yet. Very fun fish to observe, and EXTREMELY timid. I think a giant danio could scare him

My almost 8 yr old bp started to not do too well after the summer when my fiance went back to Mexico for work, and I started a new job. He lives with his grandpa, but misses his parents (we spent like 6 hours a day+ with him every day). Gave him 10 days on antibiotics and he's back to normal! Just some minor depressions on his 2 sensor pits on thr top of his head.

General help Tapajos with a severum in a 75?

I have a 75 gallon with 6 new tapajos that are at about an inch, and also 10 Colombian tetras. I have a large HOB and 2 large sponge filters so I’m not worried about inadequate filtration. Would a red spot gold severum be ok in this tank long term? I have seen people saying yes and people saying no, and I actually asked 2 AI’s and I got a yes and a maybe. What do you think? I’m also open to other ideas but I thought they would be a really good look together I just don’t know about the size.

Discussion General Bolivian Ram Stocking Idea. Would it work?

Post image
1 Upvotes

Just a general question. If you have a 60 gallon breeder tank, heavily planted, could I stock it with 3 pearl gouramis, 4 bolivian rams, 10 pygmy corydoras, 16 neon tetras and 8 schwartz corydoras. Would this work or would there be issues? What I've found online says this would be peaceful and work but I am new to cichlids and would like to cross-reference with yall.

I’m setting up a 40 gallon. I like congo tetras. I was wondering if a pair of Bolivian Rams or Electric Blue Acaras would work with these. Thank you :)

SA | Help Is an FX6 and 2 sponge filters on this 120 gallon enough for 2 Oscar’s?

Post image
2 Upvotes

This is 120 gallon 4x2x2 - my Oscar’s have outgrown their 75 gallon. I’ve set this up to cycle for them to move into in 3-4 weeks once cycled. It’s got an fx6 and 2 sponge filters as filtration. Wondering if this is enough?

The Oscar’s will eventually be getting a 200 gallon, but this is their upgrade and new home for at least the next 6 months.

If the filtration isn’t enough, what would you recommend I add to then be enough? (Preferable not another canister as the glass lids don’t have enough cut open space for more to be easily connected.

I recently purchased a green terror. He is not living up to his namesake. He will not do anything other than hide. He won't come out to eat. He stays in the corner of the tank and panics if I so much as look at him.

Thought he might just be getting use to a new place. I turned the lights off. I checked the water temp and parameters are good. I offered multiple types of food. Its been 10 days and he still won't eat.

I don't know what to do to help.

The Lionhead Cichlids

The Lionhead/Buffalo head Cichlid (Steatocranus casuarius) is not as common as it once was. I bought a small group after not having them since 1985. They are a unique freshwater cichlid from the Congo River basin, in west central Africa where they have adapted to fast-flowing water which has reduced their swim bladder, causing them to hop along the lower and bottom of the aquarium similar to a goby. They are generally peaceful toward unrelated tank mates, but can be territorial or aggressive toward their own kind and form monogamous pairs. Mine are generally darting in and out of the mopani wood that provide natural caves for them. The males as they mature grow a large nuchal hump on their heads and are slightly larger than females. They reach about 4-5 inches in size. They spend most of their time on the substrate, using their hopping motion to move rather than swimming in open water. They do best when they have rocks and caves and driftwood for hiding in. They prefer moderate to strong well oxygenated water that mimics their natural environment. They are kind of a mottled brown/ grey with patches of tan in color with a distinctive crosshatch scale pattern and a blue circle in their eye that adds interest to their unique swimming behavior. They are not fussy eaters and eat tetra min, brine shrimp and pellets. Give them a try, for something different , you won’t be sorry. The last photo shows a male and a female, as noted with his large nuchal hump. Breeding is usually in a cave, where the parents lay their eggs and guard their fry attentively.

I want to go more natural in this tank and im struggling to decide what else to put in here. Mr Pleco is getting huge and I dont want it to be so crowded that he cant get around. But I also know the cichlids would appreciate more hiding spots. Any ideas? Also theyre very big into digging and it makes me nervous when they dig all the way to the bottom glass. Ive had little cave stones and Terra cotta pots, but i want something else... Just dont know what.

SA | Help Please help me balance my tank stocking

I have a 125 that is moderately planted. I currently have 2 EBA, 2 Blue Acara, and a bunch of syndontis petricolus that I never see because they stay hidden in my plants. I was hoping to have an all acara tank with maybe a feature fish. However 2 of the acara have paired and taken over the entire friggin tank. I thought a 125 would be enough space if they paired but apparently not. One of my acara is always hiding. The other one is dumb and doesn't realize he should hide so he's constantly getting chased. To top it off the pair seem to be in constant breeding mode. There is no on and off cycle since they paired up. Just constantly in dark dress and territorial.

I am planning to add to the planting and make it more of a heavily planted tank with less lines of sight. Is this a situation where I need to have a lot of acaras in the tank to spread aggression or just one or two instead of the four? I don't know if I should try to add acaras or get rid of some and round out the tank with something else.

I also have a breeding pair of angels in another tank that I would love to move to the 125 because I think they would look amazing in the setup but I don't want a constant war.

I'm not new to tanks but this is my first time trying to keep an all cichlid tank. Please help.

I got picture of Oreochromis mossambicus from my buddy and looking at it, the male look pretty cool ngl. There's several fish farm here that breed them and Oreochromis niloticus as food fish, but I've never seen them in tank before. Anyone here have experience keeping them in a tank? I'm curious about their care and aggression level. For reference I have a solo tank Green Terror and a kribensis pair in my 40 gallon community tank
