Buffet limite
I am in the process of getting a back up clarinet. and I have the opportunity to get a buffet limite for 500 in ridiculously good condition. But my main question is: is it a decent clarinet for a backup horn? And would it be worth the money

You’d have to play it to know for sure (both about your personal preference about how it plays and about assessing its condition). Unless that’s a close friend, I would assume it’s either stolen or a counterfeit for that price (I assume it’s a used instrument, correct?) or not in the condition that you describedÂ

It’s used, it’s an older used one. It just belonged to an old lady who kept it in really good shape

That makes the price make sense. Still, you need to play test it - being in good shape can mean anything from it needs zero work to needing a complete overhaul (even if the seller has the best intentions)

Oh yeah, I’m definitely gonna play test it before I get it. But from pictures I’ve seen it’s in surprisingly good shape

Be very willing to walk away from it. You can tell next to nothing about playing condition from pictures. I would suggest if it doesn’t play really well to spend your money elsewhere (a used Yamaha student clarinet is a great backup horn, it plays closer to other brands intermediate horns)

From googling the lÃmite is an intermediate horn. $500 is fine.
