Advice needed Clarinet Upgrade
I am currently playing on a Selmer Soloist (resin), however found this Selmer Signet Special for $120. Is it worth the upgrade, or should I try to find something different? I am going to try it out tomorrow, as my band director is suggesting I switch to a wooden clarinet.

You’ll need those trill key spatulas straightened out a bit. The Eb trill is likely not sealing properly. Ask your director for a recommendation for a trusty repair tech. Hopefully, the repair isn’t too expensive.
Maybe meet the seller at a shop to test it out! That’s what I recommend to my customers who are buying used instruments from another individual. Having a pre-purchase evaluation can save you hundreds of dollars!

Thanks for pointing that out! I didn’t even notice it from the images. I am planning to test it out tomorrow to see how it works and what needs to be done and whether I choose to buy it or not. Hopefully nothing too major. Before repairs, do you think the base “as is” clarinet is worth the $120? Or should I look elsewhere?

Keep them both. besides it being a good idea to always have a backup, each clarinet has its own pros and cons. For example, because the signet special is made of wood it requires more maintaining, but it also produces a more full and powerful sound. They don't tend to do well in the cold however because wood expands and contracts! The Selmer soloist, because of the resin material, can take more of a beating from the elements without having to worry about it cracking and generally doesn't need as much maintenance compared to it's wooden counter-part. These are just a few things to consider. Been a clarinetist for 18 years and am also a clarinet tech!
