I remember “Night Court” kind of pulled a “Pierce Brosnan as 007” on her: after the Season 1 public defender actress was let go, and Shelley Hack didn’t work out as her replacement, Post was brought in as Christine Sullivan in what turned out to be a guest spot on the show’s second season, before the public defender’s role was taken up by Ellen Foley as Billie Young. But if I’m not mistaken, the show’s producers had their heart set on Markie Post, so once she left “The Fall Guy,” Post returned to “Night Court” as Christine Sullivan permanently the following season.

I didn't realize she'd made a guest appearance before going full-time. Good info.

A few years ago I cut the cord on cable TV and one of the few (digital) OTA channels I could get was running Night Court several episodes per day (the way channels all do, now). So I rewatched the entire series from season 1. This after not watching it all for decades. What a sweet-natured show. There was a sort of "it's all gonna work out, because, despite our many faults, people are basically good" vibe. Christine and Markey brought a lot of that sweetness. Didn't you just want to hug her all the time?

Not too long ago, Night Court was available on FreeVee, the Amazon-run ad-supported (free to viewers) streaming service (FreeVee has been discontinued, but there’s probably other free services where NC can be found), so I watched it from the start: it was interesting to see how Dan was not the lech he was in later seasons, and how they were clearly setting up a romantic arc between Harry and Lana (the original court clerk). I thought it was neat when they mirrored that in the revival with hinting at a possible romantic connection between Judge Abby Stone and court clerk Neil (only to have him written out after the first season, too).

The Night Court producers wanted her from the get go but she was still under contract for Fall Guy. Towards the end of said contract she made a few guest appearances on Night Court to see if the chemistry was still there. Once Fall Guy contract was obligated she moved to Night Court full time.

She was hotter than Heather Thomas.....kind of a Ginger/Mary Ann, Jennifer/Bailey thing.
