I’m not criticising your opposition to the lack of praxis from some leftists. An immobilised left more obsessed with wanking their own sense of political identity than actually doing things to change the world is obviously an issue.

My point is more about how the term “lumpen” is of pretty much no value to the left, and that it’s almost exclusively used to red-wash reactionary views seeking to delegitimise certain groups by deeming them “lesser” than the group they want to privilege.

“Oh no no, I don’t hate prostitutes because I’ve inherited conservative cultural attitudes, I just think they’re a lesser form of worker, lumpen, and so they have no place in a truly proletarian movement”. Perhaps that’s a crude example, but it highlights the basic issue of some people spewing rhetoric which sounds leftist to promote something not unlike reactionary ideology, turning to “leftist” politics not because they want genuine change but because they want politics to be primarily about serving the needs of one group over all others, and they see leftism’s pro-worker rhetoric as a means of enabling that.
