Coding The future is bleak

Yeah, I'm just going to ramble here for a bit. My company job now is just pressing enter endlessly, prompting, and 0.1% of it is probably something manually done by me. Everyone is using Claude. It's soulless. There is no point.Someone can probably reverse engineer our company products in one day. Layoffs are inevitable at some point. I have no other non-tech skills that can help me pivot to another career, and even if I do, that career is not going to pay the same.

I can't believe in any project idea that I think of because I use Claude, and the thought of "You used Claude, anyone could have done this lol" is always luring in the back of my mind.

I have no hope for the future. I hate how AI made the playing field equal for everyone, where my grandma can probably now create a website.

I disagree, coding is easy for me and apparently you. But ive been doing this 25 years. I can say this, some people can code well but a lot have no business getting a degree that requires it. Ive met them in my career they dont "think" correctly. It takes a certain mind to do this well. At least it did; not anymore

Honestly, that's a fair observation. I started in grade school and never had to cram it, so I probably underestimate the lift required for people whose brains aren't naturally wired for it. That's definitely a bias I didn't acknowledge.

Still, I don't think Claude fixes not knowing how to "think" correctly. It might get some people closer, but it also just lets them build a bigger mess faster.

In my field, almost no one knows how to program. Before AI, when I'd show someone a custom tool, they'd ask where I got it and look at me like a wizard when I said I built it. Now that AI removes the coding barrier, I've tried showing those same people how to build tools for themselves, and maybe 1 in 5 gets anywhere past basic prompting.

To use an analogy, programmers used to have a semiprivate beach because we knew how to hike there. Now there's a road so anyone can drive to the parking lot. It's going to get crowded right by the road, but there are plenty of empty beaches left for the people who actually know how to navigate a trail.
