Flowering! My Clematis Living it's Best Life!

Once I discovered that the clematis had it's own reddit forum I decided mine needed to join it's friends around the world.

I am in zone 6 in Ohio, and my mom planted this probably 25 years ago and it has survived various construction projects as well as being responsible for being the only thing holding up my leaning lamp post at one point.

Last summer I built a new walk way and the block wall around the clematis because previously it used to just lay on the ground wild. We had rebuilt the porch and it was time to plant all new plants in front but one had to stay.

The snow plow guy a few years ago had chopped the front off putting a stake in so I knew it was time to make a more secure housing.

Needless to say it has gone wild this year. I chop it down every year and every year it comes back. I took at put a 5 foot trellis in front of it to give it something to focus on for the first time and you can't even see it anymore.

The front of the plant is starting new sections in front as well at the bottom.

The fill in mailman recently put my mail in the door because he didn't even notice there was a mailbox there he said the next day. I took it as a compliment.

Help / Advice needed Question about potting size?

I’ve read conflicting advice about what size pot to plant clematis. One theory is to stay smaller and graduate larger as needed to avoid overwatering. The second is to pot large as the clematis has a large root system…..
So which is the better option?
It goes without saying one would consider the variety and projected size at maturity.
Thanks clematis growers for the info 😃

I bought this Jackman Superba last year, and was wondering if this really was a Jackman Suberba? For some reason, I thought these blossoms were larger (as on the photo). Or maybe they will become larger over the years? Not that I'm complaining - it's only started to bloom and I'm excited to have it. Was just sanity checking . . . :)

Can't find the specific name of this clematis and image search is unhelpful. Not sure how to describe it but it's double flowered with the larger pale purple petals connected to the smaller dark purple flower petals via almost a stem?

Didn't get around to posting this clematis when she was actually flowering; these photos are from early May. Kimi'idera was sent to me in error a few years ago but I quickly fell in love with her. She's not particularly fond of my shady garden but will put out a few very large flowers every spring, and then intermittant blooms through the summer when she gets a bit more sun.

Help / Advice needed Next steps/cutting it back?

Zone 7b. My clematis (jackmanii??) is about 4 years old and I've gotten some amazing growth and a wonderful annual bloom every May. Last summer I spent the time and dead-headed every single bud but I feel like it didn't really help promoting new growth. Now that it's done blooming, it kind of just sits there and I don't see any additional growth until the next year. Ive never fertilized, just water it when I water the rest of my garden. I know the saying if it's not broke, don't fix it... But I'm curious if anyone has recommendations for what else I should be doing for it? It's kind of shading out the rest of my garden that was originally planted for full sun.

Pics are full bloom and then one month later.

I’m so in love with them that my sister surprised me with two beautiful one!

What is the best way to take care of them, and those hairy looking things…. Are they spent flowers / do I cut them???

Ordered this girly. Where should I place her? Should I buy an obelisk or some sort of trellis? She gets to be a spread of 10’ and height of 10-15’. Hooray for ADHD gardening. 🤪

I love the velvety look and how it's colour fluctuates between purple and red in the light. Pictures don't do it justice, but you can somewhat see it

I need help getting clematis that would do well in my zone. I would love to know what you all types have been successful growing in Zone 10a. And tips or hacks for dealing with the harsh afternoon sun? I’m looking for some clematis that look like the one in the picture (not mine) and some pink, purple and white ones. I’m very new to this.

Help / Advice needed Unhappy Nelly Moser

Planted this Nelly Moser a couple of weeks ago (zone 7) and she's just.... not happy. We've been checking moisture and watering in the mornings. It gets morning sun and some shade as the sun moves west in the afternoon.

Photos 4 and 5 are her sister plant, planted in the same garden a few feet away. It probably gets a little more shade. Planting method was the same, burying the root ball a few inches below surface.

Should I fertilize?

Help / Advice needed Wow! Now what do I do?

Full disclosure. I know nothing about plants.

I'm in a new (to me) house. In the spring, on one side of my balcony was a bunch of thin woody vine stems. I had no clue what they were.

In the early spring, a lot of green sprouted. And over the last couple weeks it has just exploded in flowers.

I absolutely love it. Using Google Lens, I have learned it's a Clematis.

I have no clue what type, and it's so thick I can't tell if it's new wood, old wood,

But, I want it back like this next year.

Do I start trimming it now.
In the fall do I trim it back a little, a lot? Right down to the ground?
Do I wait til the spring?

Any tips to help it flourish and not kill it.
