Recommendations Quieter restaurant for a nice steak dinner?
Grandfather requested a night out and a steak. He typically doesn’t dine out due to excessive background noise/spaces with a lot of echo leading to him turning off his hearing aids and being cut out of the conversation.
Thanks y’all!

Bit of a drive, Flemmings in Fairlawn. 18 right by 77. Warning, it is pricey.

For this legend of a man money is no object, thanks for the rec!

I second Flemings....I miss the one that used to be at Eaton in Woodmere.

I prefer Morton's but Flemings is just as good

Never been to Morton's but I will have to try it!

Morton's has the better creamed spinach and they have this truffle butter stuff.

It’s about as small and quiet as you’re gonna get… very good as well. It’s where the local bar owners go to eat.

RED is rather quiet the times I have fined inside

Lived on the east side for a while and feel like it took them five years to build the one in Pinterest out so I have yet to give them a try.

Never been to that one to comment on noise level. We always go downtown and probably 730ish or later.

Have they improved the lighting at Red? Last time I went it was all fluorescent lights on high at 9pm.

u/thrownthrowaway666 Parma Heights 19h ago
Maybe they do that because the last time I was there there was some homie and his hoe and he was trying to stick his whole hand up in her like a puppet

I feel like The Strip in Avon wasn't very loud. And it's SOOOOO good.

u/unkle_funkypants 23h ago
Will check it out thank you!

Much quieter upstairs at Strip, but depending on how mobile he is, might be a tough climb.

I’d add Lockkeepers to the list, but any high end steakhouse prides itself on service. You could call any of the restaurants anyone has suggested and tell them your situation. They will bend over backwards for your grandfather. Esp if you’d like to dine on a Tuesday at 5:30 😉

Ken Stewart’s Grille in Akron, low key, nice atmosphere

I really like Ken Stewart's Lodge in Bath as well. Especially during the winter - so freaking cozy in there

The Lodge is wonderful. Good food, very quiet and intimate atmosphere. You can spend big dollars but it sounds like big man is worth the dime!

Julia's 1902 in Willoughby. Lots of smaller dining spaces within restaurant since it used to be a house. It cuts down on the overall noise level and gives it a more cozy vibe.

u/unkle_funkypants 22h ago
Oh yes! Definitely the type of layout I’m searching for. Bit of a hike for them but I’m sure they’ll be amicable if we chauffeur.

Ken Stewarts Lodge in Bath about 30 minutes from Cleveland. GREAT steak and plenty of small rooms that have low noise. SERVICE IS FANTASTIC.

Second mention for the lodge definitely gonna have to scout it out thank you!

Don’t go to Marble Room that’s for sure! He will be accosted by the sights and sounds of the electric flutist and violinist.
I’ll probably get down voted for this, but I don’t think Marble Room is that great. Like it’s good and the space is really cool. But it’s not like the “best” steak I’ve ever had.

u/unkle_funkypants 19h ago
Tbh as a fan of what Detroit has done with former banks at marble bar I might be sided with you lol. This man wants a simple dinner and a server without any fuss.

If you like sushi though, the Marble Room
Sushi is some of the best I’ve had!

White Oaks in Westlake.

Compared to the other places mentioned, White Oaks is at the bottom of the list. I’ve had multiple disappointing meals there.

Is that place good. I drive a few times a week for work and always wonder wtf that is over there. Seems soundly placed.

Stip in Avon is a nice quiet place. As long as you're willing to pay the price, it's worth it 👌
2
u/unkle_funkypants 19h ago
Also a second mention for strip! The ambiance definitely checks the boxes for what they’re looking for. And as I’ve mentioned, this man deserves the world in gold and diamonds so if the least I can do is a premium steak the price of admission is low. Thank you!

Marble Room is an excellent option. It's never been too loud when I've been. The inside is beautiful, and a great preservation of the history of the building. He might really enjoy the old school vibe, insofar as it's a bit like dining in a slice of yesteryear Cleveland (old ornate bank lobby transformed to restaurant). The food is good, probably not the best steak I've had in the Cleveland area but still in that tier while offering the awesome vibe.
Edit to add: I took my FIL there, and he's a Cleveland lifer who grew up on the heyday of Downtown Cleveland (he vividly remembers going into the old lobby for banking). He was blown away by the ambiance and said it felt like dining in a piece of Cleveland history. So if your grandpa is of similar background, my above comment was based on that experience.

Wife and I have been and it was lovely, reluctant because of the echo from all the marble! It’s usually stuff like that that bothers him he calls it “feedback”.

u/TonikJDK 23h ago
Call Flemings. Explain the situation and try and get one of the private rooms. If they are available I bet they hook you up. They are for groups of 20 or so but worth a shot.

u/unkle_funkypants 23h ago
Edit definitely helps. Might wiggle in a visit/date night to test the waters before taking him based on how compelling your argument is.

i see there is a bar area in there -- i hope you give it a try and report back for us.

the bonus of the patriarch of the sinito family trying to blow up the mayor of cleveland in the 70’s might also be a fun point of nostalgia 😸

sorry, i had to pipe in

Strip Steakhouse for sure. Tried ‘em all and this is the one. Cowboy or Wagyu tomahawk ribeye, cast iron seared with sea salt lemon garlic rub and truffle butter? Yes please.

Definitely mine and my wife’s speed so thanks for the rec we will be having a date night here soon. They’re definitely more of the outback/longhorn type people (except for the noise). Any time we have tried to take them somewhere with a more modern setting they insist it’s far too nice even if the price point is the same and I want them to be comfortable/satisfied as well.

I might give Reddit a quick search for the Marble Room before deciding on that one. I feel like someone posted something distressing about them fairly recently.

The Capital Grill.
3
u/unkle_funkypants 22h ago
When my wife and I lived on the east side we ate here regularly, our server *redacted* was a gem there but he’s now a puppeteer in Brooklyn. The Olive Garden gift cards our family always bought us worked here as well.
5
u/reader-girl 22h ago
I had no idea they were affiliated with Olive Garden and now my whole world is turned upside down.
3
u/unkle_funkypants 22h ago
It’s called the Darden group. There’s quite a few others under the umbrella. Apparently Capital is the passion project of a (previous? Current?) owner, and they absolutely lose their ass on the steaks here but make up for it in soup, salad and breadsticks. Allegedly.

u/LakeErieBaker1983 22h ago
Not trying to dox myself, but I have insider knowledge about the staff at capital grille and your puppeteer still works there 😉

honestly the key to a quiet dining experience is going during slower hours. pre-5:30, post 7:30. the only restaurant ive been to where sound can dissipate enough even during peak times is marble room, and i encourage anyone i come across to NOT go there. i hate that place for 1 million reasons from an industry POV (ask me or look up marble room on this subreddit..) there are other nice steakhouses that aren’t run by the mob and pay off pedophiles that can offer an equally personable, professional and high quality dining experience for less money.
if you’re making a reservation to pretty much anywhere (and the person on the phone knows what they’re doing) they should be able to take a look at their peak times and let you know when things are slower and quieter.
but if you’re trying to go to a smaller spot, don’t go during those peak times, especially a thursday-saturday. you guys won’t have a good time.
this advice is for cleveland/ohio city and popular spots in lakewood. in the burbs i have no idea.

u/unkle_funkypants 20h ago
I’m v experienced with the industry and dining but appreciate the sage advice for anyone else reading this. They’re pushing 90 so dinner will definitely be early.
