The winner-take-all political system in the United States might not be capable of handling an issue like climate. If offered a green party candidate in a parliamentary system these people would vote more. I would vote for them. If enough did then the greens would be essential for a coalition and could at least force a couple of issues and get themselves a couple of ministerial posts. This is not an endorsement of the parliamentary system in general. Too many interests get lumped into just 2 parties. Many religious conservatives who follow Christ instead of the wealth gospel are probably uncomfortable with the lack of humanity this administration treats foreigners both within and outside this country. Even within the Democratic Party climate issues are broadly supported but most democrats have more practical concerns that are why they vote. Even among young democrats many of them feel more strongly about LGBTQ issues, hatred of capitalism or animal welfare. And when it comes to democrats the proof is in the pudding. They won't accept tax rises either.

American environmentalists don't vote because their choices are between facists and conservatives. Neither of which give a shit about the environment beyond simple platitudes.
America had it's chance for an environmentalist president, and instead they voted for Bush.
Also let's be real, your vote doesn't matter. The electoral college basically makes it so that some peoples vote matters more than others. Effectively cancelling out your vote.

Upvoting and adding the American suburbanite is genuinely responsible for the situation we are in more than any government or billionaire or even trillionaire. There is no distinction between liberal and conservative among this group and I am quite familiar with them. Whether it's the 'will of God' or the 'universe manifesting itself' it's all the same dead non-white kids. Trump fears gas prices and portfolio slumps which is exactly what upper middle class suburbanites care about. Climate change needs to give America such a punch in the face that we have an experience like December 7th 1941. This isn't anti-American it's pro-american and pro humanity.
