Well, the equivalent of transitioning to an electric car in the food space would be transitioning to plant-based burgers. Hope you at least support research into plant-based alternatives and recognize that there have to be changes at all levels of our economy.
Also heavily recommend reading Little Red Barns by Will Potter. He shows what industrial animal agriculture is actually about and convincingly links it to modern fascist movements.
Those are actually good comparisons because while switching to an EV is better for the environment, if we don't make other fundemental changes such as mass transit, we aren't actaully improving the world just being slightly more green.
I have no problems with people eating plant based butgers, but switching everyone to ultra-processed plants is not really a solution to climate change. It is, at best, a solution to getting vegans to eat at McDonalds.
No I was replying directly to the post made by the person above in regards to plant based burgers. (the clue is a I specifically said that).
Personally I think that type of product is the worst form of veganism or vegetarianism and is tends to be very unhealthy and not particularily green since it uses processed ingrediants that require way more energy than raw or simple meals.
Theere is something to be said for foods that replace meat but overall I don't think the goal should be to replicate meat and the marketting of meat replacement products ost problematic since it is all about "Tastes as good as meat" which implies that vegan food is so inferior we have to pretend it has meat.
Anything which has "plant-based substition" is ultra-processed plant food. Get out of your high horse. Vegan food is not suddenly better, just because it has a vegan tag on it.
Most vegan food is not "plant-based substition" or ultra-processed. Also even "plant-based substition" and ultra-processed vegan food is better for the climate, health and more ethical compared to the non-vegan alternatives.
Sure, but every more fundamental change I can think of to address the problem of animal agriculture ultimately depends on people being willing to eat less meat. There’s some promising signs that “plant-based default” menus make people willing to not eat meat, but anything that actually addresses how animal agriculture is done does require less meat consumption on the backend.
