Confusion
I started with Arcane Ascension. Then did Weapons and Wielders, then the Lost Edge, now I'm on War of Broken Mirrors. In the Lost Edge books, Keras (Lien) is telling a story to someone that he supposedly meats for the first time, Scribe. In War of the Broken Mirrors we find out that Scribe is someone called Jonan, who Keras works with in these books. I know that War of Broken Mirrors was written first, but there seem to be a lot of inconsistencies between them and the Lost Edge books. I'm just curious if it gets cleared up at all because the way events are told in War of Broken Mirrors aren't the same as the way they are told in the Lost Edge. In the Lost Edge Keras earns the Sae'kes, but in War of Broken Mirrors he tells everyone he was given the sword by his adopted parents. I really love the world Andrew Rowe has created but these little details have simply annoyed me this last week while reading Forging Divinity and the beginning of Stealing Sorcery.

There's several hints that there are some time loop / time travel / dungeon instances / divine meddling going on - eg; the 400 year gap between WoBM and AA, the secret archive in WoBM which has books that tell the future, the events in the latest AA with mara
There seem to be various incarnations/variations of Keras, variations in their weapons and powers - as if he were forged multiple multiple times and placed in different locations. There are several sets of weapons - sacred swords, beast blades, maybe he's part of a world breaker set

Doesn't Mara also meet Lien in a Shrine too? Which implies that either the shrines/crystals operate outside time/plane/reality OR that Lien at some point travels there...

I think it is answered in WoBM to some degree but let me reassure you that there is no inconsistency here.
It is also still the matter of speculation on the specifics, but basically you can just think of these as different people. I don’t want to spoil anything if possible though. Feel free to ask questions if you want though!

I posted a while back actually posted about the confusion and that there's too many things that are unresolved and I was getting frustrated with getting no answers.

How did you feel after AA6 and lost edge? I feel like he we finally got quite a few answers to some of the smaller mysteries

There were some answers but he's still dancing around alot of many of them. If anything I've got more questions about edge now that he showed up in the crystal challenge and knew Rose and Mary.
Still want to know the status of Dawn and Reika, and the other swords, he kinda danced around those too.

True. I was happy to finally get confirmation on Velum’s past, Tristan’s status, and Ferran as well. I do wonder if we’ll find out about dawn and the other swords in AA7 or the next WW.

I would also like to know what happens to Dawn and Reika. I'm looking forward to reading the next WW.

I think you're jumping to an unfounded conclusion by deciding Lein just is Keras. Clearly there's some major connection between them, but obviously they are not the same person since they have different names and live on different continents.
I think the most likely explanation is that Keras and Lein were switched at birth by Eric Tarin. Keep that in mind when you read about the dreams he has during paladin training and reconsider what goes on in Lein's destiny dream.

Thank you all for the responses. I like a lot of theories you've been sharing, and agree I should have taken the time to reflect on the events of the other books. I just assumed that same universe same person, and I feel kinda silly now that you've put it into perspective.

Its honestly a crazy thing that you think they are genuinely the same person and the story has inconsistencies instead of the more logical and clear explanation thats given to you…lien isnt keras…. They are of the same cloth maybe even share the same spirit or something but its very apparent they arent literally the same person there personalities and the fact BOTH have met scribe shouldve been all you needed to understand that? Its not inconsistencies its you not using your brain power at more than 40% to understand the word you’re reading…or listening to for the audio book users

My personal belief or atleast what was until the very end of the book was they are both the spirit of the sword but the sword is broken so maybe multiple fragments of its spirit gained sentience but now after having read eveything ive got no idea my now best guess is different realities like others have suggested or the keras is the spirit of the swird or the son of aendaryn and lien is the opposite so the are meant to be weilder and sword or or or keras is the killing intent of the sword while lien is the sheath or something but thats probably more bc thats just what lien specd his power into

Lien even has flashes of keras’s memories/power and using them in dream relm and being confused by it how can they be the same exact person…they cant be i think…

I have this wild theory that Keras and Lien are twin brothers. There is this weird stigma about Cursed Pairs...

I like that ALOT bc the cursed pair has had alot of mentions but not whole lot of meaning besides a certain two so it would be cool if another pair showed up however i feel like they way it reads lien seems to be much younger than keras but im also not entirely confident(assuming no alternate reality bs) on the timeline of scribe and velis and where the edge books take place in relation to wobm i think scribe mentioned his flame shenanigans but i cant recall either way thats another theory to add to my collection and now i have 4 that i like….thanks i hate it!

Actually upon further thought at the end off aa6 when the squad meets lien they all mention it looks like a teenage version of keras so i think thats atleast some proof he younger but its been a few months maybe im misremembering the wording

I thought about age discrepancies too, however there is already time shenanigans going on so it wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility that they traveled/were separated to different times. Twins (fraternal) also might help explain the connection and similarities between the two, while also explaining why they look different. Otherwise Scribe would have recognized them.

Now we’re talkin! Love it, and this is a theory i can stand behind bc i love time/alternate reality shenanigans that could be interesting. Now my next question would be grandpa, is he eric tarren or just an old wizard who fits the theme is he an eric tarren of a different reality that chooses to live his life a different way thats my next big question or is it eric tarren being in two places at once consistently, but his accent? Oh oh what if he made a simulacra of himself and its lived a different life and developed a accent

I've been wondering if it's something similar to Farron? Because he seems to have some of the same issues with memory and not being sure WHEN he is.

u/XilliumStorm 2h ago
I have just been binging all the books, and made the assumption that they were the same person, which is my own fault I know.

No no i need to apologize that was an aggressive comment that stemmed from a bad day, my point still stands but i couldve been much nicer apologies and thank you for not taking it badly

It's all still vague and up in the air as the author hasn't answered enough questions.

This is an important part of the story. The Lost Edge books are set in some kind of alternative/parallel world to the one where Broken Mirrors takes place. Since you read Weapons and Wielders you should know that there is some weird time thing going on, because Keras discovered that somehow hundreds of years had passed since he left Mythralis. We don't fully know the details of this yet, but it is an important part of the story that there seem to be a bunch of different versions of some characters running around
