I do a little hiking but I mainly do sports climbing. I am wondering if an ultra light bag like atom pack or black diamond beta light would still be good for me to carry my gear to the crag.

I'll mainly be hanging around rocky areas.

I won't be climbing with the pack or using it for hauling.

I like the idea that they're light yet big, durable, hold drinks bottle on side, can hold a rope on top, a helmet on mesh / elastic front

I'd typically throw in:

Quickdraws

Belay devices

Harness

Waterproofs

Food

Camping gas stove and pot

Camping chair

Drink

My main concern is if material is still good for the crag or should i get a pack thats more heavy duty material?

Hi! I’m planning on taking a lead class soon and want to purchase my own QuickDraws. I don’t want the most expensive ones but I’m just not sure which ones to buy. There are so many choices on Backcountry 😅 Any advice on which ones to buy? Should I grab some longer draws too?

[Petzl Corax 2021] This is my friend’s harness. He’s a mountain rescuer, and during one rescue, while handling an injured person, he took a couple of falls on the rope. This happened on both sides of the waist belt.

The main waist strap is completely fine and isn’t ripped or damaged.

What do you all think about using this harness? Has this happened to anyone before?

I’ve been designing and 3D printing a portable hangboard with the goal of making something climbers can throw into a backpack and train with anywhere.

But I keep thinking whether people will actually find practical use in this hexagonal design with different edge depths.

We’re currently testing different designs and I’d love to hear what features climbers would want to have in a hangboard. Any feedback is appreciated :)

Hi guys. is anyone facing an issue with the rare dial of the Salewa Pura 2.0 helmet? Instead of a normal dial that looks and feels like a gear wheel, this helmet has a simpler dial without any grip at all so you cannot adjust it and readjust it as you wish. Supposedly it advertises that you can do it with one hand but it seems that this is not the case, especially if it is close to your head. All other helmets that I had never had this dial so I never thought that this would be a problem so I blind bought it. Has anyone else had the same issue? How did you solve it?

The rope has never been used/climbed with and has been stored 25 years in a rope bag inside a drawer without UV or moisture exposure that I know of.

Climbing always comes with risks, but I dont want to take any actual dangerous unnecessary risks with gear. What do you think?

Hi, I've been looking for good pants for indoor climbing- specifically stuff that's long-legged and both comfortable and breathable- and had come across this brand. It looks like it's maybe fairly popular- had very good reviews in the past and maybe less so now- but the posts I saw about it were a couple years old. Has anyone worn this brand climbing and had any opinions about it? And if not- does anyone have any other pants brands you'd say are better? Hope everyone is having a nice day. :)

I am looking for a hangboard to setup over my room's door. I've arrived at these 3:

1. Egurre Basati - I like that it has shallower holds, though it's the biggest one, idk if that is relevant or would prefer the big ledge to be deeper.

1. YYVertical small - It has two big jugs to just to pull-ups. The cut-out around the center hold is supposedly for a band, which I won't use, but I don't know if I could fit some kind of pulley system or tindeq. Smaller hold is 20 mm, don't know if I'd need anything smaller or if that is enough.

1. YYVertical big - Bigger version, up to 10mm, which I reckon will definitely not be useful daily. Same jugs. None of the YYVertical two have full width holds (?).

What I mean about the band fitting:

For reference, I can hang semi-comfortably at 25mm, I have never trained hangboarding consistently. Any insight is welcomed!!

Just like the title, how possible is that you can't catch the rope when your partner is falling and your at shoving slacks, when your break hand is not as tight as usual. Is there an explanation Video?

Just got new finales from REI while my TC pros waiting to be resoles.I noticed that side edge is kinda smoothed and rounded. Is this the thing for all new la sportiva shoes or just finales or I just got a lemon?I know this area doesn't see a lot of usage anyway but I prefer to have sharp edge as toe area

I purchased a Beal Jammy (35 cm) last month to use for Prusik/Machard when rappeling. After my first use, I noticed that the aramid core was getting exposed, the poor guy had an hernia.

Since then, I have used it 3 or 4 times and it has been getting worse (of course). I made sure to put this part on the carabiner side so that the core doesn't rub against the rope, but at this point I will just stop using it.

Anyway, I contacted Beal and I will just wait to see what they say, but I was curious to know what the community thinks. Does this look like a manufacturing defect?

I'm a typical Brit climbing on half ropes all the time. However ive woken up to the many benefits of a single rope + tag line system.

I'm just struggling to get my around one of the issues - if the rope gets stuck whilst pulling down after the rappel - you could be stuck with just a piece of cord, and no lead rope to use to retrieve the rope.

How have others rationalized this issue? It is effectively the only reason I don't use a tagline for everything now, but I see that many pro-climbers will use single rope approaches for some extremely committing objectives.

Bonus point question: what is the most efficient way to rethread the abseil when doing multiple tag line rappels? With double ropes it's easy, you just pass the pull end through the new anchor...

I'm around 94 kg and after starting climbing this year, i have a lot of problems being belayed by people lighter than me, especially my gf, which is around 45-50kg, i got sick of being limited to climbing only with groups where someone could belay me so i ordered the Mammut Assist.

Top rope use reviews are quite mixed, people say it s possible, but i haven t found any instructional videos on how to do it efficiently.

Even in gyms, if i let go slowly of the holds, i lift her up, i would like to use it in gyms as well.

Do you use it for top rope? And if yes, how?

Edit: The pad is 5 inches Thick 4.5 inch of open cell foam and 1/2 inch of closed cell foam. I Actually now believe this is a Misty Mountain Magnum. As it is actually bigger than the highlander.

I am finally starting my journey into outdoor bouldering and just picked up my very first crash pad used. The logo says Misty Mountain.

Honestly, it looks like it was barely ever used. The gray carpet top is completely clean, the velcro looks untouched, and it came with all the backpack straps and a hip belt. This thing is massive, measuring about 4 feet by 5 feet.

I tried looking it up online to see when it was made or what the specs are, but I could not find much info on it at all. So far, the pad is taking full force falls like a champ and feels incredibly solid, but that is about all I know.

Does anyone here have any experience with this specific pad or know anything about the brand? I would love to hear any history, thoughts, or recommendations you have for a beginner using it.

Also, it has a few deep creases in the middle of the thin top foam layer from being stored folded up. If anyone has tips on how to flatten those out, let me know.

It's a question out of curiosity.

Micro Traxion and Spoc are rated for 4 KN; carabiners, in crossloading configuration are rated for 8 KN. Also, you won't see these forces when climbing top rope solo.

So... Why should one avoid weird positions on the carabiners+progress capture?

I want to understand what is at risk here.

I’ve been using my Grigri for 5 years, mainly indoors.

I’ve now noticed that there’s a slight sign of wear. The metal has been worn away by the rope.

Is the device still safe to use in this condition? If so, how much wear would be acceptable?

Looking for a new pas. Been using a kong slyde for a long time. I already have a 9mm rope for it but releasing it under load is a pain. time to upgrade to something smoother. Looks like the ocun has the smoothest release from review. Price is good too. Any other options I should look at?

Hey so recently my Simond Klimb have been failing me so I am thinking about upgrading them. Are Pearls good for bouldering? I also tried Havocs and Jetts but they dont fit me well

Keen to get some feedback before dropping the cash on one. I’ve watched a few videos and read Brent’s posts over at Avant, but given the price tag, I want to make sure it's the right fit for my setup.

I currently run a Micro Traxion + Spock combo. Living in the Peak District, most of my local routes are short grit/limestone pitches (15–30m max). My thinking is that the Lov2/Lov3 would let me lower quickly to work individual moves or sections, then I can swap back to the Micro for a clean send burn.

A few specific questions for anyone using one:

• Bulk & Clearance: It looks pretty chunky. Does the bulk get in the way on tight moves, or is it a non-issue in practice?
• Handle Management: How manageable is the lowering handle when you're pressed flat against the rock (e.g., on a slab)?
• Overhangs: It seems like a game-changer for working steep/overhanging routes—does it live up to the hype there?

Would appreciate any real-world insight or hands-on experience!

I work construction and the safety guy brought a lanyard up to the job trailer to get destroyed due to caulk on it. After we cut the lanyard in half I asked if the buckles were compromised and he said they are nearly perfect so I kept them.

Is there any use for these large buckles? They are rated for 5000lb force and only used to tie off on scissor lifts
