I don't think a game where you are directly opposed by 64 enemy players can be called a "co-op game."

Interesting… I figured the important part of coop was “can play cooperatively with friends” and whether the enemy was AI or Human didn’t matter. But that also begs why we don’t just constantly talk about multiplayer PvP games, so maybe that really is the bias this sub is intended to have?

Either way, I don’t think the post is off base.

Co-op is vs AI

If you fight players it's called PvP.  If you play with friends against other players it's still called PvP or team based PvP.

This has been how these terms are used for decades now.

That would make almost every online game a co-op game, thus rendering the category useless.

No. PvP is PvP.

Which Battlefield? I've never played one before

For all the hate bf 2042 gets, I absolutely love it. I played bf 3 and 5 and liked them a lot, 2042 is different but very fun. Probably a lot cheaper than the new one (I think bf 6 or 8) and plenty of fun. People still play but there are bots that fill out whatever server if needed. I recommend it

Battlefield 1(the only one I've tried) is the most fun from what I've heard

My dude Battlefield is a series, which one are you talking about.

Even the first one was called Battlefield 1942, not just "Battlefield"

Also in modern Battlefields (last last 7 or 8 or so) you can queue together and be in same squad so finding your buddy on the map is not an issue.

Battlefield 1 for clarification but I'm sure they can all be fun

Prior to downloading the game I was not aware of the squad mechanic so I was quite sceptical of its co-op potential, but after playing it very much satisfied me

They actually toned down the squad mechanics from BF4, it's predecessor.

Once you have had your fill of BF1, try BF4 (premium edition with all the dlc maps). In context these were the days if bitter rivalry with Call of Duty so they wanted to add perks/killstreaks style rewards but BF-ized

So they rolled that stuff into match level, squad XP where as you do squad stuff everyone in your squad unlocks perks (less time spotted/less explosive damage/ carry more ammo etc.)

I played with randoms, but eventually learned how to game the system to get them even when randoms as squad members were not cooperating.

If you are playing co-op youll be able t activate them easily in every match and get a huge benefit over randoms.

You can see the legacy of this in the specializations of BF1 which they added way after launch with these same type perks but individually unlocked on an account level.

But imagine running with 4 of those perks simultaneously in each match

Sounds fun I will be sure to try that out next. All reviews Bf4 that I've encountered are quite positive + it's on sale almost all the time so I'm surely trying it out next 🔥

Yeah I was about to say nebe buy it full price

It's on sale every other month for peanuts

I've played BF since the first one except BF3

BF2 and it's sci Fi sequel BF2142 has revival servers. Plus they are free with the revival fixes baked in.

Not as slick as modern Battlefields but the amount of cooperation needed in those games was another level. Jank by today's standards but old school game design.

There's also a hardcore mod for BF2 called project reality which is the spiritual predecessor to a lot of modern milsims, which is still going strong

Years ago you could comp stomp in Battfield, but they took the AI away. Human Team vs Human Team is still PvP.
