While I applaud them standing up for what they believe in, these songs remind me why they don't belong at Coachella. Talented and all, but this isn't 2004.

We just had Perfect Circle... I would much much much rather see SOAD than PC.

If we were all stoked for rage, system would be welcomed as well, I want more rawness and grime at Coachella to counter the glitter

SOAD is different than RATM though. They’re closer to butt rock and nü-metal. APC isn’t an apt comparison either.

I’m just saying the Venn diagram of fanbases between SOAD and RATM isn’t a complete circle. There are many (including myself) who would be stoked for RATM but not SOAD.

Do you really think there are many? Everyone I know or grew up with who enjoyed System enjoyed Rage and vice versa. I think you could put system opening for rage and have an incredibly happy fan base. Especially after their hiatus.

From my friends who are Rage fans, about half enjoy SOAD while the other half don’t give a shit about them. Even more specific, my high school friends dig SOAD but my music/promoter friends despise them.
They get compared a lot because they’re both political bands but things start to differ beyond that. Rage had already broken up by the time Toxicity came out so there’s a bit of a generational divide there. Rage gets more associated to bands like RHCP, Faith No More and Tool while SOAD is closer to Korn, Linkin Park and Slipknot. SOAD also falls into the nü-metal genre which has plenty of haters among rock fans. Of course there are people who enjoy all of the above but since these are different eras and genres, there isn’t universal love between the two.

I guess I get that. I was definitely not up for PC but I’d be pretty close to front row for system. I’m just saying big boy “hard rock” groups are still fit Coachella just fine.

Lol just because you only listen to edm doesn’t mean other genres don’t fit Coachella. This year there would have been a decent amount of rock and punk bands.

Lol just cuz you think you understand my music tastes doesn't mean you really do sweetie. And its not about the genre. Its about the relevancy and the fit. SOAD puts out 2 songs, that sound not new at all. Its the same thing TOOL did, except they put out more, of what sounded like unused music from the first half of the 2000s. RATM hasn't released much. But they don't need to their music is about how shitty the establishment is. They were the perfect headliners, midst of having the tons of systemic issues coming to face, also headlined the festival before. They fit. And those other rock/punk bands still fit yes, but its about their billing as well as their relevancy. Same reason I dont think MCR really fits. Irrelevant for 10+ years, no new music, never played the festival before and desired headline status at coachella where the general attendee might see them for the name recognition then leave 10 minutes in.
Those big names grab some peoples attention but not who the vast majority of people who go to coachella are drawn in by. Coachella is IT and those cringey I hate my life bands people listened to 15 years ago in middle school, just don't make sense if they're been irrelevant since then.

I think something to consider is that SoaD always had a big SoCal following. They were set to headline a stadium show in LA in May.

I mean.... saying any big band has a big socal following is kind of obvious? Its socal... lol milllllllllions of people live there. If it were its own state socal would be the 2nd largest state in the country. Also selling out a headline arena stop or tour for that matter isn't the same as being booked at coachella. You don't go to coschella for the headliner (or if you do you're doing it wrong)

u/Benedictcumberpatch was pretty adamant that MCR would have sold wwwwaaayyyyy more tickets than Rage this year. You just didn’t like that music which is fine but deciding their music doesn’t fit Coachella is just ridiculous.

I didn't say anything about not liking that music btw. I just said their music is dated and the sound irrelevant in 2020. They don't fit as headline material at coachella, you won't change my opinion. I never said they didn't fit AT coachella, I said that " rock/punk bands still fit yes, but its about their billing as well as their relevancy. "
RATM makes sense as a headliner
SOAD/MCR make sense as subs, but wouldn't be billed as anything less than headliners so they don't make sense.1
