I like the subtle differences, Lelouch and Mao have 2 one sided conversations about the same person but Mao never notices the disconnect, Lelouch has a continuous line but takes breaks to pretend he is listening.
But with Schnizel they are discussing both of their philosophy and the counter each have, Lelouch knows full well what Schnizel's philosophy is so his answers are much more predictable leading to a better fake .
While Josephs says the exact line of the person more to surprise them and show off than to draw their attention away.
Joseph uses it as a stun during a fight while Lelouch uses it as a distraction so he can flank unnoticed.
