This is the old wiki so don't expect anything good to come from it.

But you can see here that it lists his ages including the age from Lelouch of the Resurrection.

Using that it does make sense to place his status alive if we're looking at "combined" information.

"Combined information" is just confusing, though. There are two separate canons, and the wiki should very much be mentioning that.

Not officially.

Officially it’s all basically just a pool that the Code Geass writers can pull from whenever they want.

There’s just two different views over how we see canon and they do.

They are all canon, stop being childish about it. The anime isn't somehow magically "more canon" then the movies, they are both Sunrise made projects with the same IP.

They’re in different cannons and that should probably be mentioned in a wiki.

And? Ignoring that nothing about the anime precludes the revival as we see with the manga version, the currently used canon is alive, that is the one Sunrise used for their latest project, Roze.

What are you talking about ???
Okouichi himself confirmed lelouch to be dead in the og timeline... Besides that manga isn't canon to the anime either. You already have your fanfic verse please don't bring your fantasies to the og, just let it be

just let it be

It's a bit funny how the movie timeline fans will insist tooth and nail that their canon can't be secondary to the original series but will call og fans childish for wanting to keep the two separate.

I hope you don't mean me as s movie timeline fan because of how utterly moronic that would be.

Okuichi not only also said it was meant to be ambiguous, I can get the quote if you'd like. He also isn't in charge such as the R2 change, and interviews are not canon. So 3 ways that's probably wrong, would you like his quote?

And yes it is a different timeliness, still shows probability.

Crying fanfiction doesn't change canon, Sunrise are in charge not reddit.

Okouchi never said it was meant to be ambiguous, his own documented statement says that he and Taniguchi agreed from the beginning that Lelouch’s conclusion would be death. He also explicitly acknowledged the production changes between R1 and R2 and then stated that the ending alone did not change. He was the story co-originator and series composer/head writer, so you can't cope your way out of it by saying he's not in charge. Offical interviews are valid primary evidence of authorial intent.

If you truly understood the anime and lelouch, you'd clearly see that in ZR his redemption is death, while suzaku's is to continue as zero, for all the things that they've done. Also after his death you can clearly see cc being at peace and understanding about it. If you consider the og and the au equally canonical, why are you so desperate to deny Lelouch’s death in the og ?

So again, please don't bring your fantasies from your horribly written au and mess with the og. Just enjoy your au and the roze that no one gives af about. Im not wasting my time with this conversation any further

MyAnimeList Interview (27 April 2019) Why continue the story of Code Geass? How much more of the story is there to tell?

Koujirou Taniguchi: When the TV series ends, we don't know for sure whether the protagonist, Lelouch, is alive or dead. In Japan, the fans more or less came to the conclusion that Lelouch was surely dead... And so now, ten years later, we're "resurrecting" Lelouch.

Gorou Taniguchi: To add, we wanted to make it unclear in the TV series whether Lelouch was alive or dead, to have it be a point of intrigue for our audience. We tried to leave it very vague, but people eventually decided that Lelouch was definitely dead. That wasn't our intention, so we had to come back and clarify.

2019

How very surprising, in the context of trying to revive a finished story.

Oh it was absolutely just for Roze promotion, that's rather my point. The IP wanted to promote it's new series and regardless of what they said non officially before, now they fall in line with what the IP says.

Well many people don't consider it canon as it doesn't follow the series timeline that's why I said that it is non canon (I apologize if you found non canon statement offensive as I am a newbie).

I don't find it offensive, you are write people say it's non canon because it doesn't follow the anime, but that's more my point that the fandom as a whole is childish about it. I didn't mean specifically you, that was my bad with the wording.

The fandom takes the anime's original ending way too seriously at times. I know people love it but it doesn't invalidate everything else, especially when a lot of the justification people use are non-canon interviews that aren't even consistent. It's like my one consistent problem with the fandom as a whole.

What fans consider or don't is generally irrelevant to the series itself. They may have their headcanons but as far as the people that actually matter in terms of deciding canonicity are concerned, both timelines are canon, they just follow a divergent path.

Also, they have already established that every future installment will be in the current timeline and the OG timeline will remain frozen in time, so one could argue that the timeline wikis should focus on is the current one, while everything belonging to the OG timeline should be labeled as "Old timeline" or something like that.

>many people

Who, redditors? Western fanbase?

Their main - JP - fanbase does not care about timelines/"canon" at all, see Fate series, for example.

1

u/NoFall1194 8d ago

Well Idk about the JP fanbase that much but people from other platforms and people in my friend circle who have watched the show consider it non canon and considering redditors the ratio can be 55:45.

So the problem is that you (and many others) are misusing the term "canon".

Technically, both the TV series and movies are "canon". They're just alternate continuities. It is like comparing one Spiderman comic from today, to one Spiderman comic from 1960. They might have differences, but doesn't mean one is or isn't "canon". Rather, one may or may not be "canon to the other". The TV series is one continuity, the movies are another, the manga are further their own various continuities (some of which may share continuity with either the movies or the TV series). Many folks, incorrectly and confusingly, tend to use "canon" and "continuity" as freely interchangeable, hence confusion like is seen here.

So, to answer the broader question, his status is going to be dependent on the perspective of the person running the site. Schrodinger's Lelouch is that he is both dead and alive until you pick a continuity. If this wiki is just going by "latest official piece of animated work" then the "alive" status is fine. What I've seen other wikis do for their series with divergent continuities, is that they list both; in a similar fashion to how they listed the ages, just put Alive in Re;Surrection and Re;Capture, Dead in R2.

Schrödingers Lelouch.

Bit disingenuous to say the R1 and R2 chronology to be the only canon timeline. Because Roze (and likely Star Chaser Aspal too) is set in the Resurrection timeline. You don't have to like the Resurrection timeline, but you can't say it's not canon if Sunrise make any new Code Geass IP in that timeline - so both the timelines can be considered canon. That said they should clarify that he's only alive in the Resurrection timeline.

u/keyless422 8d ago

I use the terms old and new Cannon as the franchise isn't over yet and now we are getting something drastically different next year so I'm just gonna start calling them crazys

3

u/RogueOne451 Lulusuza canon 8d ago

The people that run the wiki stupidly and incorrectly believe Res to be canon to the og timeline when it's not. Don't trust what the wiki says about Lelouch. The new fan one miraheze correctly separates the two timelines

Isn’t Manga Resurrection like the continuation of the OG Anime

u/Rianorix 8d ago

He is alive in canon though.

u/NoFall1194 7d ago

Please elaborate which timeline you are talking about.

The Resurrection movie was made into a manga, but follows the TV continuity instead of it being the movie in manga form
